      Late comment,but they own ten of them and are designated as ST70AH-T4's.
      Union Pacific owns 90 SD70ACE-T4's.
      Originally,BNSF and Norfolk Southern had some orders put in for them but those were canceled,there were some demonstrator units even painted in BNSF's scheme but with EMDX lettering.

    Virtually ALL EMD export sales in 2018 and thus far in 2019... have been ordered with the 710 prime mover... what does that tell you?!? Also, I read in a Trade publication about 6 weeks ago (in May), that the 2 cycle 710 had just received US Tier4 certification after meeting the necessary emissions standards, although the article did Not go into detail as to the refinements made to accomplish it, other than "it was accomplished with less complications than expected".
    EMD's "home sales" (US) were taking a beating with the announcement that the 710 was not going to be available in US locomotives. Many people do not understand that even though GE (currently, and for several decades now... after the London, Ontario fiasco) may have taken the number one slot in US & Canadian locomotive sales... EMD - FAR Surpasses GE in Export sales, in fact... EMD is the Largest Export locomotive builder in the world... and the 2 cycle reigns supreme in all those sales!
    Not only do they sell locomotives in various, country specific specifications and gauges, but they are increasingly selling the 2 cycle prime mover with attendant hardware & software to "in-country/local manufacturers" such as in the UK, eastern Europe, or Clyde in Australia & New Zealand, even Russia has been testing them in the last 5 years.
    India, which has been a "holdout/die-hard" ALCO power country, is now gradually moving to the EMD 710G prime mover. Yes, I know that GE has signed a big contract/under lease deal with the Chinese... but overall, EMD and its 2 cycle is still number One in the world.

      I believe that the tier revolution is a fashion way, to be correct in politicians terms, eco friendly and bla
      bla, if as you said the 710 aproved tier 4 certifications, i dont know why this prime mover will be not available in the usa, perhaps the fact is that caterpillar management are hammering its heads to install in the market,and in the battle against GE for the global market.,. the failed 4 stroke prime movers at all costs, and now will be a total shame that the old 710 aproved tier4,

      EMD's time is not beginning in India, now EMD's time is over. Indian Railways has been buying WDG EMD GT46MAC to SD80MAC's since 2000. The first 21 WDG4s Road numbers 12001 to 12021 were imported "as built kits" and assembled at DLW Varanasi. Indian Railways is targeting for 100% electrification, they are now converting EMD's into electrics to cut down the use of Diesel locomotives. Two WDG-4 (diesel) locomotives of 4000 HP have been combined and converted into one 12,000 HP WAG-11 electric engine units. As IR is converting to electrification, they still are buying diesel locos but are not buying EMD anymore because they are not TIER-4 compliant. Now they are buying GE locos, the first one rolled off India Railway Fall 2017. th-cam.com/video/3tszSb5aNiA/w-d-xo.html Not only have IR dropped EMD, but they are exclusively buying GE because they are cheaper than EMD, AND, GE is financing IR for it. The 6000HP GE gets 4% better fuel consumption than the 20-710 x 5500hp, AND meets emissions where EMD does not. IR just took 1000 x GE units. th-cam.com/video/_RO-IQboljQ/w-d-xo.html The first 40 units come from GE in USA. The next 960 units will be built in India in a brand new Gigantic Locomotive engine factory. DLW is in the process of converting EMD's to electrification, pulling out the engine, installing electric convertors.
      The last DLW EMD [BHEEM WDG5 EMD @ 5500hp] has been put on IR in March 2019. New loco units are the WAP, WAG (Electric) and GE. EMD's are being stripped of their engines and converted to electrification from 6000 to 10000 HP units. EMD's going out of service are being "parts harvested" and sold off. As much as I love EMD 710's, sorry man, EMD 2-stroke is done. EMD has not been able to meet the Tier requirements, they run too hot, burn more fuel than the 4-strokes.

      GE engines in China actually not work as well as expected. They didn't duplicate the same legend that C36-7 created back to 1980s.

      @@iBackshift Looks like people now days prefer so-called Eco-friendlly instead of easy of diagnose and repair. Probably EMD 2-stroke gonna ended up like Detroit 2-stroke, leave a legend and history that appreciated and remembered by people that know them.

      It's a derivative of the original EMD 265H-V16 engine that is the basis for the current CAT C280 & EMD [owned by CAT] 1010J engine which is just an optimized for rail C280. The 265H was EMDs first 4 Cycle off road Diesel, not the 1010, though they are essentially the same block to varying degrees. Though with all the emissions equipment bolted on and all the changes made they sound like completely different beasts.

    • @silicon212
      @silicon212 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@scenicdepictionsofchicagolife Actually the C280 and 265H-1010J have nothing to do with each other. The C280 is the successor to the CAT 3600 series. CAT definitely had a hand in the 1010J, but to say it's related to the C280 is not correct.

    • @Slim_Slid
      @Slim_Slid ปีที่แล้ว

      @silicon212 The 3600's & 1010J are still the predecessor to the C280.
      The C280 much like the 1010J is also used in some locomotives as well,not just certain freight ships.It also depends on what configuration you're talking about because it comes in different variants of cylinders.
      Caterpillar is EMD's parent company and also owns Progress Rail.
      The basis of the block on the 1010J is the same as the 265H but the 1010J is the 265H's successor.The 1010J uses different crankshafts and fuel injection.
      The EMD 265H was a complete failure because of no harmonic balancing,that's why it resulted in aggressive internal vibration.Union Pacific and Canadian Pacific dumped all of the SD90MAC's & SD90MAC-H's.The 265H later on was improvised and rebuilt but only saw prolonged service in Asia and China,the predecessor to the 265H was the 210H.
      The CAT/EMD 1010J is a reliable engine,but the SD70ACE-T4's didn't get high sales because of numerous errors involving the computer and electronic systems,which is why they were out of service for some time.
