The art of blacksmithing: 'king of the trades' 🔥🔨

  • In days past the 'smithy' was one of the pivotal people in the community. His work kept towns running by supplying wheels, tools, machinery and just about everything made out of iron or steel.
Then new technology almost silenced the anvils and suffocated the forges. This dying art is kept alive through the passions of people like Noel Giles who has kept the trade alive and well in Mackay.
Noel's passion extends beyond the ringing steel, he also helps teach the art and of traditional blacksmithing. Wanting to learn how to bend the steel I was privileged to have met Noel and attend one of his blacksmith's classes.
Noel's skill at the forge and ability to train people willing to learn has helped me to understand the complexity of heating steel and the skills required to manipulate and craft the steel in the traditional ways.
Produced by Daniel Battley and Margaret Burgess
    Special thanks to Noel Giles

I love the line 'blacksmithing isn't a craft it's an art', this is what I've found with my blacksmithing as well.

I enjoyed this. Blacksmithing is a craft for making things man wants or needs. but it can certainly be an Art form also. I try to enjoy the craft and the art of Blacksmithing. Well Done!

@@abcaustralia Yeah there is a lot to learn, I have taught myself as I did not have a blacksmith to teach me, but now I'm in a local artisans club and they have blacksmiths and forges, we made hammers a few weeks ago, that was very interesting.
