This is just an idea: When you finish each garment - take a picture of the completed garment to display and add date finished and any comments like what you might change, etc. It is fun to go back for a pleasant memory. Thanks for showing this new app and I hope to make a try.

If you do this (which is a great idea) could you move the card to a different board, for example completed projects?
@@Curlygirliecrafts I haven't used Trello yet but from what I understand You would move the card.
@@Curlygirliecrafts yes. You have even link cards together from different boards. I.e pattern board and fabric stash board.
Another idea: when you've seen with this fabric, you could add the sewing machine settings to the card (and whether you have matching thread, what it's like to see with etc). I don't have a massive stash but might use it for patterns.
I just started organizing my fabrics with Trello a few days ago! I made the mistake of pulling them all out thinking I would do it all in a day... Now my sewing room is just full of fabric everywhere and I can't sew anything until I get it done... Smart of you to just do a few at a time!
HI You can find lots of sewing photos for your background of each board by clicking on PHOTOS and a search at the top comes up, Type in Sew, Knit, etc and there are absolutely gorgeous photos to choose from 😄 PS I have stalled the job of entering Stash!! Your video has inspired me, especially since I have been sewing it up lately . Time to organize while ii have less fabric. Also a tip i learned from Ravelry, you can put one more item on the description...Where... ie Cabinet A bottom, Cabinet C top etc My stuff is sometimes in different rooms, and this saves time Great video! 😃 🇨🇦

This is so cool! Thank you for sharing with us. I'm a snow bird (winter traveler), hunkered down, out of my homestate, waiting for the lockdowns to end so that I can get back to my sewing room and my stash. However, I have enough supplies and a sewing machine with me to keep myself busy. When I do get back home, I want to organize my stash. How exciting! Have a blessed week!

I have used Trello at work. One Board we use is something like 'Job complete'. Perhaps when you have used the fabric, you could move it into a Board called 'Complete'? That way you know what fabrics are no longer available for a new project. I use Evernote to organise my patterns. I have photos of the cover photo, size chart, fabric requirements so that when I am out I can see what I need to buy. I also add a note to say what fabric I used and when, what adjustments I made to the pattern. I can tag the patterns 'Knit', 'Woven', 'Dress', etc so I can do a quick search. Each pattern is in a new notebook which are the company names. Hope this makes sense.
I have started setting up my fabrics using Trello...thank-you for the idea. I also take screen shots of the fabric from the web site to add as attachments, rather than having to photograph the fabric. And add screenshot(s) of the pattern(s) cover I want to use the fabric for.
That's a great idea to have a 'complete' board - I'll definitely look in to adding that. x
@@dianemorrall2687 Glad you're using it :) Yes I've done screenshots or saved the photos from the fabric shop's website if it's still available on there too - I realised the other day that it would be quicker that way! x

Love Trello! I organize my stash in a physical swatch book file and there's so many in there that I decided against using Trello for my stash because it would take forever for me to digitize my entire collection 😭. I do however use Trello for my organizing my digital patterns. It's the best! Thanks for this video, Tamlyn xx
Definitely look at using labels to help out-maybe a pretty-washed’ label that you can add to cards where the fabric has been washed. You can search by label, so if you wanted to sew _now_, you could look only at the fabrics that are pre-washed.
Can I also plug my favourite power up? (You get one power up per board, with the free account, it’s a shame not to take advantage of that!)
Custom Fields is now my default power up, it means you can add whatever fields you like. Maybe you add a drop-down menu with fabric widths as options, or woven/knit (or all the possible fabric types!)? Or maybe you have another that is a number field, where you put the length you have available. You can sort by these custom fields, making it even easier to quickly look at your board, and narrow the choices to what you actually need!
I am only just setting up my Trello boards for sewing related things, but I’ve been using it with all sorts of projects over the last five years. (I’m astounded it had never occurred to me to use it for patterns or fabric, before now!)

I have been using the Trello app on my phone for about a year now and couldn’t be without it 😁 I have lists for fabrics and for Patterns but also a wish list where I take a split screen picture with fabric and pattern so I can flick through if I need any inspiration xx
What a fab idea! Am going to start this for my patterns, then add the fabric. It works the same way as Ravelry for knitting/crochet. I would also add the cost of the fabric - will be interesting 20 years down the line.Just missing a new board for 'Garments' then you can move the list across when it is finished with a photo of the finished garment. I have recently got trello to organise my fabric stash and think it is great. Not sure if anyone else has made the same comment but I added custom fields so I not only record length purchased but also length remaining - that way I can keep track of when I have used some fabric I also know what I have left for a future project.
I've been using Trello for a while for personal house projects. Never thought to use it for my sewing. I've started using this method and it's fab. It's like I have my own fabric shop 😃. Going to take time to list everything but so worth it. Thanks for sharing.
Trello seems like a good way to organize things and I have always liked organizing 😊 But I just use Google Photos and as I don’t have an awful lot of fabrics I keep them in the same ”album”. I write information just like you in the description of the photo. If I wanted to separate them into categories I could just make several albums. You get a really good overview when you open an album. I also keep albums for makes of different categories.
Recently I discovered a lovely app called Zinnia (just like our cat 😊). It’s a journeling app but it works a lot like photo albums and I have started to use it for makes instead. I love the creativity you can express in it ❤️ It costs about 40 £ a year to get unlimited access and I treat myself to that as I love this type of thing. Thanks for sharing all your content, you are one of my favourite youtubers in the sewing society! 🥰

I have to say a massive thank you for this video. I put this on my computer a long time ago but couldn't get to grips with it. When you showed how easy it was I started to put all my patterns on there. I have now discovered that if the patterns you have are digital ones you can drag and drop your PDF into the pattern note. You will never lose your file again.

I'm so glad you've done this. I tried trello a while ago, and just didn't get on wihh it. I can see using alongside the computer this will be much more manageable. I'm definately gonna give this a go. I've been putting my patterns onto another app, which I like, but it doesn't have a website to go with it, so this maybe a lot easier. I’ve been using Trello for planning makes over the year and keeping track of what I’ve made. Kim at Dorothy’s daughter did a tutorial on that. But not used it for fabric tracking but I think I will certainly log my patterns! 😍😁❤️
Thanks Tamlyn for a great lesson, and wonderful idea, I shall definitely use it for my fabric. I use an app called Sewing Pattern Buddy which Kim from Dorothy's daughter spoke about. I am a quilter as well as a dressmaker, so I keep all my dressmaking patterns on my phone, so if I am shopping fabric I know what need. I keep my quilting patterns on my tablet. I shall be checking Trello out tomorrow. Thank you.

Hi Tamlyn...just a suggestion but I find it really useful to put how many metres I have after the title...that way I can flick through and know which fabrics I cant use for a pattern because I havnt got enough....

I devised a similar system for my fabric stash but on A4 sheets. I have two fabrics per page, two pages filed back to back in a plastic sleeve in a lever arch file. It lists composition, date purchased, from where, length and width, and cost per metre. There is also room to add date made, pattern nbr and alterations made. The advantage of paper over iPad is that I also file a swatch of the fabric so I can browse and feel, before deciding what I want to use. I now catalogue fabric as soon as it arrives. However, I think Trello would be a good idea for pattern organisation.
This sounds like a great system too. Yeah I definitely want to Trello my patterns once I've finished my fabric x

I've used Trello for notions (zippers, binding, piping) but I don't give such a detailed description as you. Maybe I should revisit my entries.

I don't have a fabric stash, my pension won't allow it. But think I shall use it for patterns
Same for me.
I have been overbuying fabric for 40 plus years. If I started sewing a garment a week I don’t think I could sew all of it up before my natural death. I still buy if I need something very specific, or if I really love a fabric, but mostly I am sewing from my collected fabrics .

One question: I assume it will allow us to add more pics to each card? I'm excited to organize my patterns this way and I'd like to show front and back of the pattern envelope.
Tammy Masson thank you so much for your feedback. Yes, you can add multiple pictures to a card :) You may possibly only be able to have one as the ‘main’ image that you see when you look at your board. But once you click on the card you would see the other images you have added. Good luck :) x

Think I mite do this with my makes. Small stash and small pattern collections...so dont need it for that....altho guilty of buying fabric and then find I already have something at home I could've used
