    Hi... the reason you can't find a speed mod for this tape machine is because it has fixed motor speed (hence no trimpot)..
    you can get around this by using a PWM module between the motor, and the motors power supply wires..
    This allows you to control the square wave pulse that feeds the motor and to modulate it with the potentiometer as required to achieve the desired speed..
    The pwm modules cost a couple of bucks on aliexpress, and just require 4 pieces of soldering and the potentiometer mounting...
    They work amazingly, and throw in a chinese reverb module, also a buck or two, and youll have a great creepy lil tape player.

    I was listening to Trepaneringsritualen while watching your tutorial, not realizing I had the volume of your video on also. At around 14 min of Papist Pretender I began hearing this haunting bell sound that was just incredible so I paused your video...only to realize it was the combination of your recording at 2:45 (the bells) w/ Trepaneringsritualen...you guys should probably do a split haha. Great noise here.

    This a great way to acquire samples and put them into a hardware sampler or DAW for further processing.

    Regarding your description - If you do want to find ground, the best way is to find a wire thats attached to a random bit of metal in the player, like the motor or the case somewhere. Thats ground. If you dont want to solder to there then follow where that wire goes around the circuit and pick somewhere

    you can try to test different potentiometers, maybe one with higher or lower ohms, that matches the range of voltage controled Or if it was a linear pot try a logarythmic or the other way around, since they behave differently as you dial them in ( on audio for example linear acts exactly as in your case: nothing happens for the first 80% and then the last 20% make a huge difference - Logarythmic dials in the sound smooth ) - if its bc of the pwm of the motor-control than that needs to be adressed

    @1:50 Don't ever use your teeth for stripping wire, this ruined mine, just use scissors, a side cutter or a real wire stripper, (not the terrible thing he is using), but a very big thumbs up for making this video making the taperecorder do different speeds. By the way it is also possible to change speed of a CD player, If anyone wants to know how, please let me know, I did it once a long time ago, If I get a request on this, I will make a video how to do this. (Now busy with some analog simlations in LtSpice) Keep up the good work.. (But don't ever use your teeth!, you will regret it if it becomes a habit)

      @@danix683 It is not clear from the explanation where do I have to connect one of the remaining two sides of the pot. I cannot understand the “other cable to the motor” that you mentioned.

      @uNpOpuLArOpInION69 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You may not go on the power train directly as it has a few watts. The speed is regulated by a circuit in the motor and by bridging the connections, the controller slows it down. If you just put a pot or resistor in the way of the powertrain, it has to dissipate a lot of the power going through and burns.

  • @zentriceggofficial
    @zentriceggofficial ปีที่แล้ว

    A motor can suck more current than a pot is designed for. Hence at least one person in the comments who had a smoking pot. A wirewound pot or voltage mod circuit

      @@projectnull not your fault! it's a similar player, but different. i've been trying to find resources online for what happened, i think there may need to be a resistor in front of my potentiometer so that it never lets the full current through. interesting that you didn't need one though -- what kind of batteries / how many does your player use?

      @@projectnull Hi! was there any solution/tip for this? I tried that with sony tcm 939 and also had a little smoke.. but I tried to connect in a different place - not where you did it, but at the other end of the cable connected to the motor - on +/- on the pcb. Maybe that was the reason for smoke. Only today I have dismantled the recorder further and had to take the motor completely out to find a spot that looks exactly as in your video here. But this is so well hidden that I will have no option to test it on the go, this will have to be soldered, put back together and only then I will know if it's successful (which is not convenient) I will be giving it another try tomorrow, as I've tested the pot to be still alive! Basically I have no idea what I'm doing :)
      btw. it your recorder stereo? tcm 939 is mono and sounds completely rubbish, i'd call it ''bad'' kind of lo-fi :) but maybe i'll get some interesting sounds out of it with some filtering and reverbs anyway.
