History suggests 20-point comeback election wins are rare

  • In this week’s video, John Ivison is joined by Abacus Data chief executive, David Coletto, to discuss the prime minister’s comments in a recent interview that the polls should be disregarded because Canadians are not yet in “decision mode”.
Trudeau told CBC’s David Cochrane that what voters tell a pollster, “if they ever manage to reach you”, is very different from the choice they will make come election time.
Abacus has just released a poll that has the Conservatives 20 points ahead and the Liberals with their lowest vote share since October 2015. Coletto said Trudeau may just be trying to bolster morale among Liberal supporters by telling them things aren’t as bad as pollsters are saying.

The part that you failed to mention about the two of the examples used Mulroney and McGuinty, had won their reelection but had leadership changes when they realized the electorate had regretted their choices and the PC leadership under Kim Campbell and the Ontario Liberals under Kathleen Wynne suffered massive defeats in their next elections and were rightly reduced to less than party status numbers. Trudeau is taking the Federal Liberal party to that abyss now.

Agreed and they're already at the brink of that abyss right now and if they don't dump TrueDork or he refuses to step down this year so they have time to find a new leader, if any would want to replace this loser. So in all likelihood that loser is going to bring down the liberal party much like Jughead Singh is going to take down the NDP to complete non party status and if we're lucky both parties will be reduced to no seats period in the HoC.

The longer to call an earlier federal election to happen in 2024 , the fewer MP seats of both LIBERALS and NDPs can win more than SINGLE DIGITS seats in October 2025. The remaining supports to LIBERALS and NDPS today are fading away in 2024. Imagine both parties ( NDP-LIBERALS government) to wait until 2025 to call a Federal Election - single digits MPs seats for those 2 parties are the possibility.
