Andy Shanks is singer songwriter and performer living on the ‘Smuggler’s Coast’ near Johnshaven. He is a well known Scottish Folk musician and his songs have been recorded by himself and many other artists. His most recent songs are about Johnshaven, written working with the local people, the school, musicians and the Heritage Hub. A storyteller too, he presents a lively set of tales from the village in an augmented reality walk where he will guide you through the village one story at a time on your phone.
Andy brings life to the tales of fisherman and their encounters along the Smuggler’s Coast. Through enchanting stories, songs and poems, his magical tales of the history and heritage of Johnshaven village tell of what makes Aberdeenshire a great place to live and visit.
Johnshaven is a beautiful coastal village south of Stonehaven and Dunnottar Castle. It is steeped in its fishing heritage.
The historic fishing village toasts its unique culture with an annual Fish Festival, attracting locals and visitors from across the world. The festival celebrates the village’s famous shellfish and its prominence in the maritime industry.
