I took his CD, "Christori's Dream" with me to Iraq. I think I wore it out. I listened to it every night, to drown out the sounds of war. Even better, all my soldiers thought it was just too stupid music, I was just too wierd, so they never asked to borrow the CD.

Your soldiers were probably all listening to that horrible, violent, hateful and totally foul mouthed rap/hip hop crap that has no meaning. Rap music pieces will not last. Within weeks/months, those "songs" will be long forgotten in favor of more of the same trash they replaced. This right here is good music and will, for years and years, be played and enjoyed by those who treasure music that touches one's heart and soul. This is eternal. Thank you for your service, sir, and welcome home. Semper Fi, from an old Jarhead ( USMC '79 - '83).
My daughter was introduced to this song around 1993. She heard it again around 1997. My husband bought David Arkenstone (I believe) around 2000. I restarted piano lessons in 2014 (age 60), bought the sheet music 2017. Worked on it off and on (was too difficult at first) so I put it "on hold". Brought it back out Jan. 2022 I believe. Finally mastered it this week March 11, 2023. It's not perfect but it's now one of my signature pieces and I can play it for friends privately in my home or at nursing homes. I love it!
Is the arrangement you have the same as this youtube piece? Is it in D minor? I want to purchase it, but I don't want a different arrangement, but this one that we are listening to above. I LOVE it. It'll probably take years to master but it is worth it. Good for you for tackling it. You give me hope. It'll take me at least a year and probably more, but I WILL learn it. I just want to make sure I get this arrangement. Thank you.
The New Age era of music is so underappreciated. Lanz, Enya, Yanni, they're all so great (still to this day), but so few people know them. Even Enya is fading out. It's so sad to think about. I grew up on all of them. Love them so much.
@@bbrucet3 I grew up on him. His wiki says he retired in 2000. I was shocked to read that! He *is* now in his 80's and has lost many of his posessions, musically and otherwise, to a brush fire in northern CA.
This was the first song I ever learned on piano, playing the notes by ear, struggling to make all the parts work. I taught myself to play because of this man's music.
I always picture one of those music box ballerinas coming to life. I see her stumbling in the beginning, figuring out how each limb relates to the other, and slowly moving to her own rhythm. She dances with an excitement for life until her her pin turns back into place and she makes her way back to her pedestal until someone winds her again. I feel like that could make an amazing dance, but it probably is already out there already in some form or another. Either way, it is a beautiful visual.
My grandson is 8 years old, and he's loved this since he was barely able to walk. He's...busy...and I wanted to find something soothing for him. He sometimes sits at my piano playing what comes out of his fingers. It doesn't sound like anything other than his thoughts, but I will never quell that. He wants lessons and I want to find a piano for him so he can do that, but it would have to be an electric piano. But he just loves this.
I can feel his emotions listening to this song. At 1st there's hope. But the end he's succumbed to his darkness. He gives up, but death is beautiful not sad. The end of pain. I can feel the beauty in this song.
I was born in 82. I've had this song in my head since my dad first bought the CD sometime in early 90's and I fell in love. It stands as the foundation for my appreciation for music. This was the first song without words that moved me and set my expectations for all music that followed. This version in particular is a treasure. The passion, the inflection, the genius that is this song makes it one in a million.
Besides my love and respect for David’s presence in today’s world, I share the same birthday as he. I am one year older. We met on more than one occasion and he is a joy to converse with. Very well rounded as a performer. A gift to all who follow his music; I hope he tours again. KR
What's even more amazing than this song being written incredibly well, he couldn't have played it any better. Seriously, no matter how long you attempt to create a midi of this to sound the exact same, it cannot be done. This is the definition of a perfect performance. Literally every aspect of it was flawless. Amazing job!
This is possibly the most hauntingly beautiful song I have ever heard. I cry when I listen to it and I cry when I play it although I will never play it they way you do, David. Thank you for sharing your amazing talent and God Bless!
My favorite. Absolutely amazing! I am taken away by this beautiful piece. I could listen to this over and over. I'd love to see David Lanz perform live.
Cristofori's Dream is about the inventor of the piano, Bartolomeo Cristofori, who was a harpsichord builder. ... He had a dream of seeing his new invention going through its development all the way to becoming a concert grand piano, and the song ends with the piano turning back into a child's toy or music box.
My friend is like 12 and she can play this song we would be in music class she would perform this to me and it made me feel so calm and relaxed and brings me back to the good old days, but now she's moving to middle school I just wanna tell her how amazing she is he's also preformed piano in front of like 500+ people, I miss u my friend.
I watched it that night from my PC. It was my first Piano Haven concert. It was thrilling to watch David live. I have most of his CDs. His emotional speared music had helped me through a very difficult transitional time in my life.
My crush in middle school taught me how to play this over the phone...before cell phones were around. Totally worth holding up the phone line for the sweet tune. Turned out my crush liked only guys, but we both shared our love for music together at one point in time, (over 25 years ago). ❤

You've captured this piece and given it the love it deserves. I hope in my next life I come back as a song. And with a little luck I'll be treated with the dignity you've shown here.
This was the first real piece I memorized when I was still taking lessons. I just came back to it 13 years later and playing it brought back so many memories of when I started playing piano and just childhood nostalgia in general. This piece is a special one to me and still makes my mom cry when I visit her and play a bit. I come back to this video every so often, even though I've heard and played this piece countless times it's just something else when he plays it, something that cannot be replicated in the same way.
I have the sheet music to this beautiful song, and truly enjoy playing it! I actually put my daughter to sleep playing it while she was trying to go to sleep! Just a beautiful song! My late mother also enjoyed listening to me play it as well!
Absolutely beautiful. Been hearing this on Pandora. Now I have the cd. So cool that it was written for the man who invented the piano. I would have never known. I was intrigued and wondered who Cristofori was.
I love it and I love seeing the live verson because you can see that he ca play his own song and it is possible to play Cristoforis Dream and that it can chang your life for the better. Thank you David Lanz, you make beautiful pieces.
A musical masterpiece that sends one to places of great peace and comfort. I discovered this song on the John Tesh Show up on I Heart Radio. Seriously, my wife and I have listened to this for the last two weeks, since I first found it. Thanks Mr. Tesh for playing it. Awesome number.
