I just re-watched this video in January 2024. Very nostalgic. I finally got to experience this one in person about four months ago. The carpet has been replaced and light bulbs have been replaced with LEDs. Otherwise, same fixtures and same lantern glitch. Love it! Great time capsule. We both have been at this hobby for quite some time now. Measuring in decades. I love it!
Thanks! I still think there could've been better placement with a few extra poles to prevent loaders from getting through, but allow a wheelchair to use it. Three to be exact. Maybe one about 5 feet away (center), and 2 side ones at the door frame edges, about 2 feet out. Prevent loaders from using it, and wheelchair access. Either that, or it is wide enough, and just doesn't look it because of its massive size.
there is a montgomery vector that is 9,000 pounds at the mall where i live. it IS senic and it IS not even parable to how big that elevator. you can fit a smart car or fiat but thats it for the vector. i LOVE it. it is a food court elevator. we also have a tiny montgomerykone at sears and i have not been to the mall recently but i heard there is another elevator in the jc penny. by the way, this is in the oakview mall in omaha nebraska.the elevator in jc is prob the same as the 1 in sears.
1:55 "If I press both buttons ...That is one confused elevator ..." Just noticed the janitor gave a dirty look, lol. Probably thought that made a longer ride for her.
I'd hate to be one in a wheelchair. How can you get in this thing, with a giant pole in the middle of the opening? The poles could've been placed much better: farther back.

It has also been having the privilege of calling you a friend 😊
Likewise!! :)@@DieselDucy
Nice one! The cleaner who entered the elvator as you were finishing up was probably like "What the??"! Again, nice vids!
The logic: Make the passenger elevators as slow as possible and make the service elevator, probably seldom used, quick. Good mall.
Those big vanity buttons are super rare
Elevating Toronto by ToronElevators Nordstrom at Menlo Park Mall has them.

I remember one of the buildings in RI I've gone to has these floors: B, and G. 1, 2, 3, and 4 stay the same.

What does S stand for?
Service level
I was in this elevator a few days ago, they added an alarm bell for when the doors were open, I'm not sure why But it's very annoying.
Didn't you film this back in 2001 or 2002?

That pole is to prevent freight from being taken on the passenger.
Wow, that's big for a traction elevator in a mall. :D
E n y l y s e y l y
There is only a pole in front of the basement level door. The main levels are not blocked.
What do you mean somebody took a lighter to them?
suzzex Lit them on fire

i thought mall of america was in minneapolis
john seeger It is.
I'm surprised the fixtures are still original as of today.
Me too!
I know it's there to keep the elderly from driving into the elevator, but it's not exactly ADA compliant.
georgef551 It's actually to prevent staff from carrying freight into this elevator. The public levels (1-4) are not blocked
For passengers ONLY. NO FREIGHT
It isn't ADA compliant if wheelchairs can't get into it
@TheZekethunder : Nudge mode.
Installed in 1996
Why the bell?
To warn you that the doors are closing so that the doors don't crush you.
For passengers only. NO FREIGHT.

This elevator is a bottom drive.
No, it’s not. It’s an overhead drive.
