Why is it that whenever farmers see someone else pulling a bigger implement than they do with similar horsepower then they feel the need to get all high and mighty and say "you couldn't do that on our real land over here..."!? The ploughing in this video is top class and the fact that it's being done with a small tractor makes it even more impressive.
A lot of people don't realize that soil in one place is very different from soil in another place, often even in the same field. In Texas we plowed sandy loam soil 18" deep with 9 ripper chisels behind a John Deere 4520 (140 hp). When I moved to Kentucky the same plow would require will over 200 hp in the heavy clay.
The reason for not ploughing deep is if you plough to deep on grass it will end up on top rather than in the bottom of the furrow. I drove a Tm 140 for a few years dam good pulling tractor one of the best NH built and I am not a lover of ford NH, the farmer got the tractor new in 07 I had it all the time till ex for a new tractor in 2012 it made more second hand than what was payed for when new with 3890 H on clock in mint condition.
well yeah. But mostly, when i see a video, like this, always come into my mind, these machine will never plough with 9 head in some specific soil. Those, sandy, soft soils are joke...
Unusual plow. Not going very deep ~6.5" and the bottoms are quite narrow. Less then a foot wide. In the US typical is an 18" wide bottom. We run about 9" to 10" deep in Minnesota Also the type of plow above will not work in soil that has rocks in it. Most plows in the US have an auto reset bottom where the whole bottom can flex up and back and then reset.
In NW Texas, we have hard equal parts silt, clay, and very fine sand (silty clay loam, no rocks). We used to plow 12" deep until center pivot sprinklers changed our farming. the clean powder soil would blow and not take water into the soil without having residue and structure.
I see someone responded and I did not see this before. Not many people plow in MN but a few crops do benefit, in this case it is kidney beans. @@robertreznik9330
Alex Centonove If tractor with 140 hp does maximum of 2 furrows is there need for agriculture? Here in Croatia tractors like this plough with 1 furrow- for wineyards (about 50 cm or more in ground i think), and with 3 or 4 furrow for agriculture (about 35 cm in ground).
Excellent ploughing, Some of the ploughing vids i see shoe the tractor going at a high rate of speed which leads to faster wear of the ploughshares and boards. Plus you burn more fuel.
man there must be some serious strain on that rear linkage thats a big plough we use a 6 and 5 furrow keverland plough but ours are just ordinary conventional ones

Cracking video, very nice tidy and accurate demonstration of how to plough correctly
Tis a fair plough for the little TM to be pulling

Great camera angles...! You've got it!!! Thanks!!! Gordon in Maui
Hate seeing all these farm videos where no one has rocks in their fields.

9 furrow???????a TM140?????.....here in our land with a maximum of 2!!
As is said in the video the plough is only going 16 cm deep plus it's light land. It's a so called 'eco' plough.

Lovely, pleasure to watch.
that amazing Tractor
I prefer plowing with a water buffalo myself. But its hard to keep the rows as straight as when you use a tractor.
Water buffalo, schmater buffalo - you can't beat a good pair of Shire Horses
Shire Horses are for petting zoos and parades.. :O)
Good Quality. Nice Video.
Really great movie :)

Would any 9 furrow plow do the same or is there something special about this one? It looks fairly conventional.

Could go twice as fast if you actually ploughed to only 1 inch, which you may as well. But looks good accurate ploughing
direct drill the way to go
+Chace Cashmere no it isn't...
+Chace Cashmere Depending on the crop that may work. For most food crops you need more weed control then direct drill can provide.
I'm my area we put a disck over it the direct drill when its Time or cultivate the drill but that's in Australia

Sehr saubere Arbeit und das schon bei 16 cm, vorbildlich! Auch die Anschlussfurche passt. Gutes Video.

What ploughing at 160 mm 6 1/2 " deep ,, could have worked it up quicker with a decent set of Offset discs
Nice Video

Okay, I'm completely out of it today, could you please explain in greater detail what you just said?
Geo Fleming When you are using a New Holland USA brand tractor what you are doing is P L O W I N G ! ! !
This isn't an american model. It's built in Basildon, England. So therefore it would be Ploughing.
