Yay! Can't wait, every programme they have done previously really has brought the past back to life, It's the little everyday mundane tasks that are forgotten about but these practicle skills are the ones that show how inventive and creative people were and some skills we have nearly lost.
wow, fascinating. Just when I think I cannot be easily fascinated anymore, I come across a group of people building a castle with old techniques and am in awe. This is great. The effort put in and respect for beautiful European tradition brings a tear to my eye!
Guedelon is a dream come true for me, as it is for so many. Bravo! Keep up the good work and never let these techniques die. The Medieval Mind was brilliant in so many ways, even as so many did not know how to read or write, and laid out measurements on the ground with a knotted rope or code. And look at the beauty, architecture and engineering they accomplished, 800 years ago!
You can play 'Pillars of the Earth' as a board game, (watch out though, there are two versions, you want the one by KOSMOS with the grey arches, not the blue E Follet one). It takes you through the building of the cathedral, and features many of the characters from the book. I havn't read the book, but do enjoy the game nonetheless.
@@andyhart358 - cool. Its my favorite book. Its big but I tore through it. Its an amazing story. And theres a prequel and sequel- both thoroughly entertaining as well. I’ve read many of Follets mysteries too but this is his greatest work. 👍🏼
I think what should impress people the most is the number of hours to build this castle. Most people today don't understand the number of people and the number of hours they put in to get anything done. Having worked that way myself, I know you get a sense of accomplishment with every small thing that is finished. If you make one single piece at a blacksmith's forge, you will learn a great appreciation for the metalworking that was done in the past.
SUCH AMAZING HISTORY IN ALL THESE SERIES AND JUST LOVE IT. BUT IRONICALLY WE ALL THINK WE'RE LIVING IN THEE MOST TECHNOLOGICALLY ADVANCED TIME EVER AND THANK GOD WE DIDN'T LIVE IN THESE!!!
Someone has posted a visit to the castle, shot in September 2020 (with face masks). The chapel tower now has its roof, and the two front gate towers have been heightened. It is coming together slowly. It must be a joy to wake up each morning, see the castle improving day by day, and know that this is where you are going to be working.
Ruth, Peter and Tom. Perfect combination. Their enthusiasm always shines through and they are historians who really do bring the past to life!

Ruth is beautiful. Such a lovely woman full of knowledge and joy. Such an inspiration to future historians.
I love her she made this series IMO

2021 . This American is quite addictive to these. Hopefully more will be produced. 🙏🙏🙏🙏 please. These got me through 2020.
I really enjoyed this video. I'm amazed at how hard people worked compared to how we live today. We are so spoiled it's not even funny. Great video.
Very cool. This reminds me of Ken follets the pillars of the earth. 👍🏼

Does anyone know where I can find this documentary?
Don’t be sad it’s over, be glad it happened…
Where can I watch this
Why don't they go back and see how the castle is coming on. It's nearly finished now so it would be great to see it completed
I DO HOPE THIS CASTLE WILL BE A TOURIST STOP SHOWING ALL FORMS OF THIS ERA LIFE!!
