Awesome hardy geranium....the leaves are stunning. "Masquerade" penstemon is another dark stemmed flower. White and lilac perenials would really show off many of these chocolate or maroon plants. My pin cushion and chocolate cosmos are also dark flowering. And dahlias too. Love the drama!
Thank you Rosy. The information you give is fantastic. When I think you can't get any better out comes another brilliant video. I learn something new every time. You really do know your plants.
I have been gardening for over 50 years in New York State, ,USA and have rarely found many of the wonderful perennials that you discuss in this and other videos, at any nursery. There are several huge plant companies that supply the garden centers and “ big box stores” here. Independent nurseries that specialize in growing the more unusual plants are disappearing. I learn so much from each of your videos, and try to remember the new classifications given to some plants. I wonder when Dicentra had a name change, and why this seems to be happening more often with so many plants.
I used to think that botanists spent their time reclassifying plants because there’s no more discovery work left.😅 Then I learned it’s because of DNA new technology. Now scientists have the possibility of looking at the genetic similarities and differences between plants which are not detectable by morphology alone.
I have a 1 acre nursery and am trying to make a point of having novel variety. Half the plants Rosy showcases I have to ship in from a nursery many states away or find them from sellers on Ebay. It's important to have the essentials, but a lot of people are desperate for special varieties outside of over-cultivated stuff like begonias, roses, peonies etc.
Love the plants in this video. Am I correct that these are only available in the UK? I landscape my yard in the US and would love to plant a new area with these plants from the dark side. I've only watched a handful of Rosie's videos, but have enjoyed and learned something from each of them. She has the most interesting plants every video. Thanks Rosie
I think the UK just makes a bigger deal out of cottage gardens where they have tons of showy variety. These plants are rare in the US, but you can find them with a bit of digging and patience. Recently got a $30 Centaurea 'Amethyst in Snow' in a qt from a single Ebay listing, but I was lucky in that I got about 15 divisions out of it.
Rosy love your videos great help to me . I've successfully grown a ravenswing from seed last year. It's only small at the moment can't wait for it to establish itself in the border.
Has Dicentra been recategorised? I can’t keep up with all these changes, they could at least make the new name more pronounceable 🤣🤯 I have to say I have lusted after Centaurea Jordy for a while but haven’t managed to get one yet.
Rosie you are the best presenter ever..
Oh my goodness. I feel more lawn disappearing and a new bed developing. 🤦🏼♀️ Stunning.
Same here - lol. My long suffering husband gained a new centre border when he went away a few days for work last year...!

Your video show is better than gardeners world
Have you started a new Trend gardening on the dark side. Like this 👍

DNA analysis is shaking things up in botany a lot at the moment. There will be more reclassifications, splittings and joinings of groups to come.
