Excellent video. Someone who actually understands the yips and I love that comment at the end. "If you can find a movement which just feels good in its own sense. And enjoy the movement" - I've never looked at putting like that.
Thanks Pete, that was great. I nearly always get on the green in regulation and then the dread starts as I take the putter out of the bag. Radical change in technique and mental process = enjoyable putting!
Pete, I am a 17 yo +3 Handicaper and this video helped my Putting like nothing ever before. Just shows how good that content is. Keep up the good work m8🙏🏼
The suggestion to think about where your putting stroke should finish makes huge sense and takes the pressure away from thinking about the complete stroke. And the you throw in the idea of a completely different stroke. Awsome idea that make sense and can’t wait to try them.
GENIUS! It is so true that when I putt I was always more focused on me and my technique than actually making the putt. I recently bought a much heavier mallet style putter with a bit longer shaft and all my putting improved immensely. Because I was now focused on letting that putter track on an arc instead of just hitting the ball. The fear of contact was gone because I don't anticipate it the way I used to.
Thanks so much for this Pete and Karl. I feel like I've already learnt a whole new way of looking at putting. I definitely focus way too much on technique so shifting focus to something else makes complete sense (light bulb moment💡). Cure my yips!
I have terrible problems with yips. More with chipping than with putting. Putting with a pengrip is helping me. But when it is going very bad i drink a good gin tonic or two. My tension is than less and also my yips. A very good series!! Cure my yips
Very interesting, I do archery as well as golfing and there’s the same phenomenon but it’s called target panic, and in shooting sports it’s trigger panic. Basically it’s a psychological behavior that sets in when you train yourself to aim at the bullseye of the target. Your body will react to you trying to do it. The way to train out of it is like you demonstrated, set your body on autopilot and focus away from the conscious aiming.
Pete I’ve tried this drill alongside the other putting grip video you did a while ago and I find I’m more confident in making putts. I find that my stroke is not breaking down nor is my holing speed because I’m focused on holing the putt rather than technique. Awesome video. Love your work! Cheers.
Had good laugh! I believe a lot of golfers have lost the kid inside that just enjoyed the game and had fun. They get over competitive and beat themselves more then the course does
A thought from the first and second tip that resonate with my game, with short and long game, is that focusing my attention on recreating a practice swing whilst being over the ball allows me have some of the best strikes. My thought being focusing only on my swing and not worrying about the contact with the ball, as one would during a practice swing. With this the ball is just an small obstacle within the swings path and not the other way around. Not sure this makes sense, but it does in my head. Happy golfing everyone
CURE MY YIPS. As explained, you need to train both the technical side and the créative side of putting. Your Aligator/Flamingo and Locke putts were training the creative part. Nice video !
I have been putting with my eyes on the hole for about a year. Improved my distance control and direction. Totally recommend it. But get used to it on the practice green before trying it in a round because, at first, you may feel like you will miss the ball. However, I never had any air swings. In fact it helps me "feel" the swing of the putter head.
This series of videos is exceptional in both content and presentation. I have been golfing for 6 years and study the game. I wish I would have found this series earlier. Thank for making this available.
Still got a couple of Karls Audio CD's from about 10 years ago, they were really good... yes... Audio CD's... Am I aloud to feel old when I say that even though I'm 24?...
Side saddle putting is not illegal. What Sam Snead did and what was deemed illegal was straddling the ball to putt. Side saddle or face on putting is perfectly legal as long as you don’t anchor the putter.
I had the yips. - I rotated my top hand (rotated left for a RH) so it became really weak I keep my left wrist and hand VERY firm. This seems to remove my right (top hand) from the shot now. This stops me yipping under pressure 90% of the time.
Great video, this chap knows the mind! I have been using the look at the hole technique for many years even from 30' it works....I use the analogy, 'we got to the moon I'm sure I can get a ball in a hole from 6"! '
Interesting video Peter. Certainly an idea that resonates even if it isn’t really putting yips that I struggle with. Just focusing on attention is something that I think could also help with other areas/shots, be it the tight tee shot with bad memories or the pitch over a bunker etc.
Cure my yips. Loving this series. I will definitely try those first two drills - especially the second. The idea of concentrating on where the head finishes is fascinating. Not sure the flamingo grip is going to catch on though.
Had a round yesterday, and thought i'd try just looking at the hole for all my putts. Seemed to improve my lag, as all im thinking about is pushing the putter through with enough force to get the ball where im looking, and not on my backswing or anything else.
i been searching what is the best modern putter for a new putter i bought ER6 evnroll it pushes the pga rules to max with the face make the ball track back to whole an gravity grip an now get me new putting stoke that is the best what im going to do.take my game to next level.i started playing left hand low first started playing this game now im going to try both hands together cause i put both hands together an swing so natural straight everytime..i watching different drills to figure out what works i know one way i always did Phil drills
wow i never knew that PGA made such a putting way against putting but the guys used belly putter an chest putter that was legal to they said no we changing this also like the FDA what works you cant do hahahahahahaha
Cure my yips Yep, this is super useful stuff; not sure I will try any of your new grips on the course but the looking at the hole when I putt is definitely on my To-Try List Cheers
Got a lot out of that. Confirmed what I was finding on the course, I putt best when I think less. Look at the hole, find the line, then just stroke the putt.
I have the putting jips and its made me putt left handed but I hate it , when I do a right handed practice putt its perfect then when I hit the ball it goes all over, so I will be trying all the tips here many thanks
Cure my Yips Sidesaddle putting is NOT illegal. What Sam Snead did that was later declared illegal was putt CROQUET style, standing with one foot on both sides of the line of the putt with the ball between his legs. An interesting note is that it is LEGAL to make a stroke croquet-style anywhere OFF the green. It's only illegal on the putting surface.
Cure my yips- should have got the bloke behind you in for a lesson (13.10) missed a short one and not happy by his body language, thanks for the info, enlightening !! cheers
I always find myself looking at the hole annoyingly much when I play great putts/chips/pitches. When I am really in the zone and play my best I am complete fokused on the outcome (hole/flag/green). Sometimes I take one more glance DURING the backswing! I always found this annoying, but after seeing this it seems like a good thing? I dont usually do this, but it just happens subconsciously ...
I think there's a lot to be said about the mentality of putting and taking the attention away from the impact. When you 'created your own grip' you still managed to get the ball in the hole. In no other shot in golf would you be able to achieve the outcome whilst compromising 'good technique'. Ain't nobody bombing it 300 yards with the crocodile grip! To me, this just reinforces that although techniques is important, putting is very idiosyncratic and you're much better improving your mentality with something comfortable to you than getting overly technical. I'd suggest this is very unique to putting and can't be said as much for other parts of the game as much.
Can you do a video on how to start a golfing TH-cam please? I’m out every day for about 5-6 hours playing golf and I would like to do TH-cam with it. I’d appreciate it a lot. Thanks
I'm pretty sure the side saddle technique is legal. Sam Snead straddled the ball while doing a similar to side saddle stroke and that was made illegal.
Late in the video it was mentioned that Sam Snead went to side saddle putting, and one of the guys said that they made it illegal. No so. Side saddle has always (and still is) a legal way to putt.
Isao Aoki ... my example too when I say to people perfect technique means nothing. Glad someone else remembers him, and glad there are wise heads to crowbar out a ridiculous over technical approach to what is a 99 percent feel activity. The only positive I can find for that sort of approach is that the delusion of doing it "right" might create confidence .... and confidence creates a positive strike .... something that's everything with the short stick.
Excellent video. Someone who actually understands the yips and I love that comment at the end. "If you can find a movement which just feels good in its own sense. And enjoy the movement" - I've never looked at putting like that.

Excellent advice. Been suffering from the yips for a couple of months now. Will try these tips when I'm next out.
Thanks

jdheelfan 😀
“Fear of contact.” Great phrase…exactly what I’m now experiencing with the flat stick.
@@aProudOG Do you listen to Karl Morris' podcast?
Really like the idea of having a complete shift in technique, recruiting new neurons. I am on it!
I am putting like this for a couple of months now and I improved vastly.
Holger Ertingshausen brilliant to hear
Thanks so much for the 3 ways of switching the attention. Greetings from Germany!
Thanks so much for this Pete and Karl. I feel like I've already learnt a whole new way of looking at putting. I definitely focus way too much on technique so shifting focus to something else makes complete sense (light bulb moment💡). Cure my yips!
Mark Zoel 😀
Cure my yips please. These videos are EXCELLENT! Thanks Peter.
Seems logical, I will try this next time I am out on the putting green
The looking at the hole didn’t work very well, but, the taking the putter to a certain point worked like a charm! Thanks for the tip!
I have terrible problems with yips. More with chipping than with putting. Putting with a pengrip is helping me. But when it is going very bad i drink a good gin tonic or two. My tension is than less and also my yips.
A very good series!! Cure my yips

Classic Pete! I can't wait to see how my buds react to the crocodile grip. Thanks Karl.
Chris I wait till they see your putting!
Fascinating. Very descriptive explanation. Liked watching Peter's mind visibly expand at minute 8
Shawn McDonald #mindblown
Holy crap my wish came true putting videos and exactly what o need to improve my mental game.
Cole Reynolds #genie

Thanks David - you should read the book, its really useful
Cure my yips.
Great video. So simply put and so easy to understand. Brilliant 👍
Derek Brown cheers derek
Good positive thinking, focusing away from the technical thoughts. Cure my yips!
Had good laugh! I believe a lot of golfers have lost the kid inside that just enjoyed the game and had fun. They get over competitive and beat themselves more then the course does
After 2am 👍
Great video Pete 👍🏻
Should have watched this way sooner, very nice!

Branden Deyerle almost!
I haven’t tried change of focus yet but it’s the first thing I’m going to do when I get to the course!
Darrell Johnson let us know how it goes Darrell
I putt while looking at the hole. Been doing that for some time now. Helps me cure a lot if ills when it comes to putting.
CURE MY YIPS. As explained, you need to train both the technical side and the créative side of putting. Your Aligator/Flamingo and Locke putts were training the creative part. Nice video !

Cure my yips!!! Great to see this content.
Hugely Helpful… Thank you!!!!

You're exactly right Scott. I was going to mention that but you beat me to it.
I had the yips.
- I rotated my top hand (rotated left for a RH) so it became really weak
I keep my left wrist and hand VERY firm. This seems to remove my right (top hand) from the shot now.

Cure my yips...although I never had any...I do like the Flamingo!!! And...I like this fellow's method of teaching....Thanks, Pete...
Great video, this chap knows the mind! I have been using the look at the hole technique for many years even from 30' it works....I use the analogy, 'we got to the moon I'm sure I can get a ball in a hole from 6"! '
That Geezer wonderful logic!

martin redgrave I beg to differ #flamingoforlife
Some very interesting info here! Awesome Pete, I'm going to take it on the course with me Friday and see what happens 👌🏻
GolfMonkey Dan Let us know the verdict!
So, less scared of overhitting the putt, seemed to be more online too. Great start I think 🤘🏻👌🏻

Great video. Interested in how the same can be applied to full and half strokes with both woods and irons

I just 😂 at flamingo! I never thought I could laugh about something as serious as the yips... and this may have saved my game. God bless you.
Very well done! Cure my yips!
oh i needed this!
Cure My Yips. Thanks for the opportunity.

Yep, this is super useful stuff; not sure I will try any of your new grips on the course but the looking at the hole when I putt is definitely on my To-Try List
Cheers
Cure my yips. Excellent video.
I only putt looking at the hole. It has created “much” better distance control in my putting game.
Got a lot out of that. Confirmed what I was finding on the course, I putt best when I think less. Look at the hole, find the line, then just stroke the putt.
I’m usually a really good putter, give me a 6 footer for par in a big comp and you’re looking at 2 putt minimum. Cure my yips!!!
Want to see you put those into practice on your next golf blog Peter. lol
Cure my yips - awesome video 👏
Kevlar Ellidho 👍
Loving the series Peter! oh and Cure my Yips
Cure my yips. I changed from an odyssey #1 couple of years back to an extended daddy long legs with a 295g armlock converter grip. Never looked back.
Cure my yips. Another great video!
I have the putting jips and its made me putt left handed but I hate it , when I do a right handed practice putt its perfect then when I hit the ball it goes all over, so I will be trying all the tips here many thanks

The best thing about staring at the hole on putts that length is that it keeps your head in place
Thanks for the tips ! Subbed. You can thank Rick Shields.
Love the section on brain path going wrong. My left hand makes a smooth stroke, but my right hand is yip city. Cure my yips. Please. Please 🙏
Cure my yips. That has to be one of the best putting vids ever. Not too keen on the Flamenco Grip but heck, who am I am to call it?
ian youngson exactly 😂
Cure my yips (or those of the poor fella at 13:10 🙈). Great video series Pete!
cure my yips. great series

Cure my yips. The flamingo 😂 Going to give these tips a shot later this week on the putting green 👍
This is helping me a lot. P.S. What song is in the background?
Hey Pete, do you use the line on the golf ball when you putt?
The intro I feel is inspired by The Office/Brent. Big fan if so.
interesting thinking, very interesting
Cure my “really bad yips” thanks!

Cure my yips, great content and psychology for putting....not sure I myself would get away with demonstrating the ‘Flamingo grip’ to my mates...lol
good video, especially as my name is Dave. Not been putting well for ages, some interesting thoughts and routines. cure my yips..

Loving this Putting series Pete. You don't want to try my putting grip, I call it the "Ham Fisted Muppet"!
Bandit Baker wow
Can u do a bettinari putter review
Great vid! Cure my yips!
Wouldn’t you have the tendency to push the push rather than stroke with trying to get to the perfect follow through?
I'm pretty sure the side saddle technique is legal. Sam Snead straddled the ball while doing a similar to side saddle stroke and that was made illegal.

Right, it was the croquet style that was banned.
Karl makes a lot of sense, Pete makes lots-O-putts :)
David Boddy and that’s what we like to see!!!
Where can I buy the book (not Kindle)? - hard back not yet on Amazon
Joe Boyle just finishing editing at the moment joe
