What a great song! I remember Taj doing this when I was in college. I was also in awe of his lead guitar player, Jesse Ed Davis. He was one of the truly great ones, and sadly left us too soon. You can catch him playing on TH-cam with e.g. Clapton, Lennon, Harrison, etc.
Much appreciated Ryan! 🤘As a Blues/Rock player, this insight is very helpful. Duck Dunn's version is totally different as you said and awesome in it's own way👍
Never thought to move the bridge to the mid position - makes that Ab move SO much smoother! (and yes, “warms” the bridge too as you say). Never too late to learn something! An excellent lesson as always … thankyou!
Here's a thought from left field . . . Listen to "Shower the People" from James Taylor's Greatest Hits. Leland Sklar is playing something similar on the chorus.
Great work Ryan. I appreciate the introduction to a song I never knew. Check out the live version for a master class on how to manipulate and improvise the lick. I need to sit down and get to transcribing!
Another great lesson!
First time on your video and I liked very much the way you explained! A genuine bass Master! tks!
Thanks so much!
Cool I hadn’t thought of this song in years. Nice playing.
Isn't this young lady just awesome?
Oh heck yes!! Thank you for this!! Duck's version melted my mind, so I really appreciate this beginner friendly version.
You're so welcome!
Nice lesson! Thanks! 🙂

Woohoo! Glad that's helpful!
This is fun to play, especially for a beginner! Thank you Ryan!
