I've read the history of the Atlanta Campaign so many times...but this is my first look at Rocky Face Ridge. My great-great-grandfather fought here (with the 98th OH). AWESOME VIEW!!!
O! Great video! Thirty or so years ago I followed the route from the Chattanooga area down to Atlanta, not so well interpreted or accessible in those days so it's wonderful to see the real ground at last. I'm always glad to send you guys one a road trip.
Thank you so much, am looking forward to this series. Had two great great grandfathers who fought around this area, one of whom died in the Battle of Atlanta, plus family ties to Dalton. Great job, as always!
Back in the 80s and early 90s? Me and Dad always wanted to explore this battlefield, but it was so overgrown. We could never get very far in. I'm so happy it has better paths now! This is on my bucket list now. We'd always visit Chickamauga and Chattanooga, but never had luck here. My Dad is long gone, but I'm certain he's already explored it before me lol Great video! Can't wait for part two! Gorgeous shots!
Thank you, gentlemen for this outstanding video. My 3rd great-grandfather was wounded there on May 11th- during the attempted assault of the ridge by the 101st Ohio.
I can imagine there ARE a lot of untouched earthworks around there. Don’t think much farming could take place. Moonshine maybe but not farming. Great work guys.
This is a great video! With the fights on Rocky Face Ridge being "diversionary" to McPherson's advance through Snake Creek Gap, they don't get much attention in the history books It must have been demoralizing for the rank and file Confederates to hold the Yankees at bay for nearly a week only to have to pull out, especially from positions they'd been preparing all winter. Pretty wild that Johnston had had all winter to prepare and didn't have anyone covering Snake Creek Gap.
Love the feel, the girl I left behind me, the classic marching tune, I could imagine being among the Union columns, Forward! file by the right! left turn! Intriguing how Gen Sherman's troops battled at Dug Creek Gap Rocky Faces Ridge at the same time the Army of the Cumberland and the Army of Tennessee River, continued to engage the Rebels/ Rebeldes Confederates, meanwhile in the East Grant clashed w Lee at the Wilderness and the overland campaign, Dalton Witfield Cnty has more earthworks breastworks than Virginia, tiene mas cantidad de parapetos historicas del guerra civil, Federal y rebelde, WOW
That was an amazing video! You put it “all” together: great description (no side comments on generalship), bringing humanity to the war, wonderful visuals and explaining, in great detail, what we were seeing. I can hardly wait for more videos. You got your mojo back. Thanks for all the hard work required to produce such a powerful, quality product.
Fascinating stuff. And that scenery is awe inspiring😮. It’s crazy to think how radically different the world was just 160 short years ago. But hopefully parks like these will always be around, to commemorate our history🙏 (That’s a good 9 hour haul for me, but I might have to make it down there someday. Manassas is only 30 minutes from me, but I need to check out something new😂)
Can you do a battle of westminster. It delayed j.e.b start March on Gettysburg which some historians say coast Lee the battle of Gettysburg while others say it was Picketts charge
Hello from North Carolina! Have learned so much from listening and watching the American Battlefield trust educators.

Bob Jenkins is such a joy to listening to, had the pleasure on many occasions to hear him speak.

The plant is a yucca, used as an ornamental for its flowers. No palmettos this far north, yet. Great information is this video!

The wife's great, great grandfather served with the 24th Ohio Inf. 1861-1864. Rock Face ridge was the Regiments last battle.
What a perfect view of those great north Georgia mountains..thanks Gary, Chris, and Bob

It also a chore to get up there.
Dug Gap still has earthworks. It’s about a mile hike uphill to get there.

Really nice work gentlemen......How nice it is to learn so much, while watching a video that makes you wanna watch even more !!
Great visuals. Different perspectives of the battlefield, all fascinating.
I love it when you fellows go on a road trip!
We love it when we see that donation come in!
Glad to see this up! ABT seems to always come through even if some of the the actual NPS sites don't do anything for commemoratives
Another 160 series? yes please.
Great view!
Thank you thank you thank you!!
These Soldiers were tough, I get tired thinking about climbing that hill
Pretty pictures! Very evocative, thanks.
Maybe I'll see you in Kennesaw! I'll be there on Sunday :).

Have you been to Cedar Creek and the other Shenandoah battlefields? It sounds like it would be an easy drive for you!
Awesome job, I wonder if there is any restoration projects are planned. Thanks great job.
👍👍
Lots of newly planted trees here. Was it open ground at the time?
Kudzu was introduced from Japan into the United States at the Japanese pavilion in the 1876 Centennial Exposition in Philadelphia.
How beautiful and well preserved this battlefield is.
Have to put it on my bucket list, great video guys looking forward to your next one 😎👍
Gary, how much of Rocky Face Ridge is preserved by ABT or other agencies?
Can you tell me where jump off point was to get up there?
Can you do a battle of westminster. It delayed j.e.b start March on Gettysburg which some historians say coast Lee the battle of Gettysburg while others say it was Picketts charge
Will Chris Mackowski be apart of this Atlanta campaign?
No just Garry and Kris.
A total choke point negating any advantage of numbers or firepower.
Hey Gary, it’s pronounced Re-sack-a. Gotta pronounce it real slow lol. From a native.
How's garry adelman doing same for kris white
Breathing a little hard behind the camera lol
Well, he was carrying equipment up a mountain lol.
@@AmericanBattlefieldTrust lol I know man just giving you a hard time I’ve been up there before it’s not that fun to climb lol
