I am a high school teacher in a dropout prevention program. My students and I are in the process of remodeling our classroom, but we don't have many decorations. Hi Pete! I was more than stoked to see you're giving away one of your prints and immediately wanted to enter this contest. Next to my good friend / mentor in all things photography I count your content to my biggest inspirations. It's always informative, never boring and your approach of teaching is so refreshing. While I often struggle with the technical stuff, I usually get it when you explain it. Watching your videos has helped me tremendously on my way of becoming a better photographer. Thank you for that! With that being said...
While I'd love to frame your picture and hang it on my wall above my desk, I came across this comment by Alex Milanese and even tho this is not a voting system, I still want to vote to send the picture to his/her students.
Art moves us and makes us stop dead in our tracks all at the same time. We just have to look. If just one of these kids looks... Call me sappy, but at least my world would be a better place :)

Hiya Pete! I am 16 and my 13 year old brother and I have been watching your videos and we have been inspired to go out and shoot more pictures in different ways! We take every Sunday afternoon and run around our little home town in Ohio for 2-౩ hours and do competitive photography challenges ( judged by folks in our community). We don't have any fancy gear (just smartphone cameras 😁), but we have been inspired by your awesome content to really think of things and try to capture them in different ways. Boy would we be honored to fill an empty spot on the wall of our room with art from our most respected photography inspiration to remind us to shoot more intentionally. Shoot something to be proud of.

  • @OddTinkering

I love snowy sceneries. That would be a good enough reason, but at the moment the only art I have on the walls of my room is a terrible photo (it looked much nicer back then) I took and had printed like 5 years ago when I was much worse in photography. I think seeing a signed Peter McKinnon print on my wall would remind me that dreams do come true with hard work. It would go above my TV so that whenever I start watching TV I would think: "Should I watch TV or do something to achieve my goals".

I've printed several photos of my own photos I took while on holiday. Blown them up and had them framed. Looking at them hanging on the walls instantly take me back to that moment in time. What I felt like that year. The story behind the photo. The experiences I had during that trip. Much like a favourite song transports you back. It's an awesome feeling!

At around the same time I was going to college for a semester and taking gen-eds, I started watching your videos. You inspired me to pursue a passion that I found through YOUR videos. I now am doing photography full time. I have my first wedding lined up in May and couldn't be more happy. Thank you, Peter, for setting the tone for me as a photographer/ business owner. I most likely wouldn't be here without your content!

You are so right. I get such an awesome sense of satisfaction and completion from holding the physical evidence of my work in my hands... The photograph is the product of the blood, sweat, tears, cuts, scrapes, bruises, sore muscles, arguments with your camera, yourself and the weather... It's the evidence that the insanity has purpose... and meaning. Ive been a photographer and adventurer for a long time, but I am just now getting into film making and it's a whole new ball game. Im starting from ground zero. I love your videos, your cinematic style, your visual effects and your energy. Most of what Im taking with me on this new journey, Im learning from you, because your style is so similar to what I find visually artful. Great video, Peter. I absolutely loved the dark room and quite miss it. There’s something about seeing that photo come to life in the developer that creates that connection between the photographer and their work. I also loved your comment on buying and hanging prints of others when we should be hanging our own, which is exactly what I’ve been doing for years. Hey Peter, I'm an hobby photographer and I absolutely like the idea of printing your own photos instead of just buying a print from Ikea! It brings unique art into your home that nobody else has. I recently just moved out of my parents' home into my new home. But right now there isn't any art yet or anything else, and that's why I would love to win your print! I would hang it in my hall, so that when I enter my home, I always get inspired and reminded why I love photography! Your tips are the best, and I hope becoming just like you in 10 years! ❤️

Thank you for inspiring me to print my photos. I recently got into photography and came across your channel a few weeks ago. I’ve been able to learn a lot from watching your videos. This one though will hold a special place in my heart. A couple of days ago my son was rushed to the hospital and underwent emergency surgery to repair a massive brain bleed. The doctors were not optimistic in their prognosis. They said he probably was not going to make it through surgery but he’s a tough cookie and best the odds. He’s a critical but stable condition and showing signs of improvement. Which brings me to the point on why this video holds so much meaning. The weekend before his emergency , I took him down to Everglades National Park. I took my camera a shot a bunch of landscape photos. But my favorite photo of that day is one of him standing and looking up at a map of the park. Although his back was facing me , I decided to take the picture because he looked so amazed at the size of the natural wonder. I recently converted a room into an office space for my work. Was deciding on what to put in it. Printing and putting my own photos crossed my mind but I thought that would be tacky. But in Lou of recent events , i will definitely be printing that photo of my son to put up in the wall in my office. Thank you! 🙏🏼

  • @CaptainJack63

Home printing is the best because you can learn how the printer adds inks to the paper and why your image looks a bit different than on the screen. What's the difference between additive or subtractive inks? What matters on the screen won't matter on the print. Why Black and White prints need a special printer with gray inks? And most of all, you get your print right away. Instant gratification! Oh and don't forget you can run down to the local art framer and have it mounted. Some shops will let you do your own framing. You're friends will never believe that you created the whole thing yourself.
I too miss the days of working in the darkroom. Many of the commands you see in photoshop come from techniques that were done in the lab. You had to some basic math and use timers. If you messed up, you had to start all over again. Mistakes cost you money. But if you got it right, the results were amazing. Your fellow photographers would always ask, how in the heck did you make that? One day in photography class I was able to fool my instructor. I created a photo of racecars going around a track just like you see in NASCAR. I told him it was all made with miniatures. Slot cars to be precise. The instructor didn't believe me so I went home and photographed the slot cars, track, toy people, etc. Well I got an A+ out of that class. My days learning high school photography, helped me become an expert long before the digital camera came to be. Lessons that will be lost forever in the new digital world.

Your videos are very motivating for me in the work that I do and I take every one of your videos as a lesson for my own career. I really appreciate the help you are willing to give others through your own knowledge. I would love to receive a print because I admire the shots you take and your dedication to capturing them. If I were to receive your print, I wouldn't hang it in my own home, I have something more special in mind. The girl I have been seeing the past few months is preparing to move into an apartment soon and I thought what would be a better house warming gift than decorating her place with one of your prints? It would be very meaningful because she is a very sweet person and shows a lot of appreciation for my work and gives me motivation in continuing it and putting myself out there. It would be a very special surprise to give her something from someone I admire and whom motivates the work that I do. Thank you, Blake.

And I like giving prints to others to enjoy! I plan to print more of my digital images! And I also plan to clear out the little dark room off the side of my grandmas garage at some point! Hey Peter, greetings from Germany! I am a 17 years old student, and an ambitious pianist. I would love to hang up your photo right above my piano because when I am playing the piano I am starring at a white wall, which is kind of depressing ;). Deal: it would be cool, if you sent me a sheet of a favorite piano- piece... I could learn and record it, just so that you could use it for any B-rolls ;)

I just recently started printing my photos and stumbled upon this video. Really enjoyed watching it, and the enthusiasm you have is contagious! It's definitely a different side of photography and I've printed some photos which I had to re-edit and re-print. My first photo turned out really nice though, it was a black and white mountain shot, printed on metallic paper. I was so excited to see it, get it framed professionally, and hang up in my living room

New to your channel and I enjoy you very much.
I am looking to get back into photography. I love printing, so if it were up to me I'd say bring back acetate film and darkrooms. I think a person has a different and deeper understanding about the art of photography and light when you do your own printing, especially darkroom work, and especially in black & white. I love digital also, and both have there drawbacks and benefits, however, printing your work takes you to another place, whether it's from a computer printer, or in a darkroom. (More so the the latter). Like expanding your consciousness.
A true photographer has to understand their own work and in order to do that you have to print it. I'm not saying everything, but you gotta do some printing.

My Epson 1400 printer is almost 9 yrs old now. I keep it healthy by printing a 5x7, trying to get it right, about once a week. Having the prints around gives me ideas and I learn things. Eventually I've hit upon sneaking them into library books when I return them. By that means they go out into the world somewhere, or into a circular file. The prints look great off the screen, where they belong.

You get so much more from your photos. the wrinkled paper and everything. I feel like when you shoot on film and print in the dark room it elevates your photography from a simple medium of documenting and capturing image to a form of art in itself! great vid.

I'm a year and a half late to the party here, but just wanted to say I totally feel ya on printing your photo work. I've been printing mine for the last couple years, and have them hung up all over the house. Additionally, I've sold some of my prints and shipped them out to a few people across the U.S. Knowing that someone else had enough interest in my photography work to order custom prints of it leaves me with an amazing feeling. No amount of likes on IG can come close to that feeling, and I think more people need to experience that sorta thing.
