- Gato - American special premium Tier X submarine.
The U.S. Navy High Command conceived that "fleet submarines" were to complement the sluggish conventional battleships. With a high surface speed, heavy armament, and long operational range, they were supposed to conduct reconnaissance and finish off enemy ships once artillery duels between battleships ceased. However, after the attack on Pearl Harbor, their strategy changed, and a new type-Gato-was geared for extended patrols. Comfortable for their crews, these submarines carried a large fuel supply and torpedoes. USS Gato was laid down in October 1940 and commissioned in December 1941. The submarine conducted thirteen combat missions, earning the same number of battle stars and the Presidential Unit Citation.
Gato was first released 24 May 2023 with Update 12.4 and is available in the Armory for Steel 28,000 Steel.

how nice of the enemy to keep pushing, have no screens, and then get torped from beyond 6km range
Counterpoint: any sub can get one shot by a single ship with ASW of any kind, so one good radar or sonar means you have a good chance of dying unless they miss.

I want to buy a submarine, but I'm hesitating between the Alliance and the I56.
Which would be the best choice?
I have the U-190 and the cachalot.
The British are tempting, but I've seen the I56 in action with its torps.

Alliance and u190 are somwhat similar. i56 is very diferent way of play. In my opinion u190 isthe best overall tech line sub. Even better than 2501. If you are forced to retreat as 2501, you are useless AND dead. 190 still got those stern torps for the running. Keep in mind that i56 doesnt have surveilance. And that means HUGE disavantage for you and your team. You'll have to make up to your allies by hitting all those torps, really fast

I would recommend the s-189, the torps are much better and your spotting distance (5,4km) is very good. But when you have to decide between Alliance and I-56. I would recomment the Alliance. Keep in mind the normal Alliance torp has only a max range of 7km, the ping torps has more range, but have big issues with speed and damage.
The i56 has nice torps but 2mins under water and having 6km spotting sucks. The most benefit for the team in my opinion is, when you take your role as a scout and hunt lonely bbs. And thats quit difficult with the i56
