I was the Set Design Job Captain for Pirate Ride at what was then called Euro-Disneyland. It was a behemoth of an attraction that took a staff of 5 set designers well over a year to do the drawings for it. I was fortunate to work with such a talented group of designers. There was no AutoCad then. Everything was drawn with pencil "and a lot of eraser too!"
Another stunning episode Matt! I've watched the POTC opening ceremony quite a lot and it's great every time! It is unfortunate that the POTC style story rides never became a reality. The original ride is the only one that really made it through. One must always remember that the ride was not created to educate about pirates, much less support what the pirates did. The attraction was created so we guests can experience the exciting events of a "pirate's life".
At around 9:10, you mentioned Mark's realization that he could use his masterful sense of visual humor to make fun of these 17th century criminals, not celebrate them. I was wondering if by any chance you could tell me where you heard that from - If you can remember? Thanks and great video btw
Wow! I get back from vacation and find that I accidentally missed a Historyland while I was gone! I couldn't have had a better welcome home surprise! Vol. 3 is phenomenal and I think this might be my favorite episode so far! The intro is giving me all the feels!
I have actually had an argument who believed the ride is based on the movies. I showed him the opening date of the ride and the movie and he still said "but rides don't have story, it is all a lie".
was not a big fan of the second half of volume 1 or all of volume 2, but i'm enjoying volume 3! By the way you should do an episode on mr. toad's wild ride
at 19:40 "scenes thought to be "socially controversial' were revised to match the "social sensibilities' of the time" translated: "To make SJW's more comfortable we "WOKED UP" certain scenes of the ride".
Unfortunately things have changed since we started making our short form documentaries, I don’t have nearly as much time as I did back then. But we’re glad you’re still enjoying our older episodes!
I love "Pirates of the Caribbean." But I don't like the small changes to the ride like the Bride Auction I've also seen the men chseing the women and one heavy set woman chseing a pirate which is funny but also them chaseing after the women holding food. the "Pirates of the Caribbean movies are great but I don't care for the characters being on the classic ride.
This was absolutely a masterpiece. I'm so proud of how your channel has grown. The quality of this entertainment is spectacular!
That introduction was first class!! Top notch!
It really is!

One of the things I loved most about the original POTC is that the pirates weren't supposed to be the good guys.
