Personally, I have never been disappointed with an Idlewild album and this doesn’t look to disappoint me! Amazing to see how they have all developed as musicians! 👍
Love it. Great progression. I hate when a band goes backwards and tried to recapture a period that wouldn't suit them now. Nice follow on from the last album and that outtro just oozes Pink Floyd influence.
For as many fans as there are worldwide, how are there barely 600 subscribers to this? As to the song, I like the start a lot, but the rest will take more listens to process. Not a simple one-and-done pop song.
First listen it's ok but the ending doesn't work for me.. great to see Idlewild back, but I think they've run out of hits if judging the last album is anything to go by.. will need to listen to this a bit more but for now it sounds like a decent b-side and nothing more.
the last album was my favourite I actually thought TRP while a good album wasn't one of their best despite it being the best known, but each to their own! :) Like all fans though of course I agree 100BW was excellent.
100 broken windows is such an underrated album. They never produced anything that good again. TRP was great and I really liked Warnings/Promises a lot but 100BW was the sound they should have kept moving forward with.
If pyschadelic blues rock is your thing, then, well... Maybe it's for you. But the issue is there are bands that do it way better. No band quite did the straight up rock Idlewild were doing in the early 00s. Everything up to Make Another World had that unique twinge to it. All the last album and this does is make me think that I might as well listen to Steven Wilson
@@bladechild2449 I don't think your analysis up to make another world is accurate, W&P was very different to the albums they had done before, and some of the softer sounding material in that album was something of a preview of what would come with EEW in 2015. Also Idlewild have in no way become a psychedelic blues type band.. in EEW there was a lot of variety without it completely throwing out the idlewild sound, there was straight rock (collect yourself) blues type (use if you can use it) some piano led stuff (utopia and left like roses) among others. Seems clear interview music when it comes out will have a variety of sounds and I like that. What I admire so much about idlewild is they never went with the mainstream and what might bring success, they just recorded what seemed right to them at the time, hence their sound evolved. I fully get people who like straight rock (punk rock in their earliest days) and feel disappointed the band changed, but the way they naturally adapted has led to them keeping a certain core idlewildish while not being afraid to take risks, and led in my opinion to the best incarnation of the band.
@@IAmJonnariffic I'm not asking them to write songs that sound exactly the same. I'm asking them to maintain a songwriting standard, and this song falls below it. Learn the difference.
i love this
"Dream Variations" debuted at #36 on the New Alternative 40 Chart this week!
That, right there, is some good shit! Can’t wait to hear the rest of the album!

Interesting lead single. Like it. This is what I love about Idlewild, they keep evolving

The music from 3:02 on is a bit Tranquility Motel and Slots. The rest is great
Fresh

This is pure gash
Can't expect every album to sound the same. Be a bit open minded.
Starts off pretty good, but leses me the last part. Bring back Alan!
Wow. Was a big fan in the early days but lost interest when things got shiny with "The Remote Part". This is great though! Loving the psych edge :D
Remote Part is a stunning album.. the first album lacked any melody and sounded like a band learning to play their instruments..
@@dfstarborn Opinions are wonderful things, huh? (You might also want to check how much music they released prior to The Remote Part.)

Pretty dull affair. I'm not expecting them to come back with anything as bouncy as 100 BW and TRP, but this is pretty droll, much like the last album.
BladeChild sounds better than the last album imo..

It's not very good. Each album seems to be getting worse.
Just your perspective. Can't expect them to make 7 albums that sound exactly the same.

They've made one bad album which was the last one. Remote Part is an amazing album, one of my all-time favourites from that time period..
I agree that this song isn't strong at all as it sounds like plastic beach near the end. Damien albarn pink Floydish
@@steven_uk I disagree. It's a grower, and I can't wait to hear the rest.
It's awful.
Nope.
No chorus, average verses, nice Mansun style outro though.
Lost Souls more like tame impala as well
Sounds more like plastic beach and pink Floyd to me .
