I have quite an extensive hook collection too. I've been crocheting for about 44 years, lol...I've had plenty of time to accumulate tools.
For years, I had no idea that there were different designs for crochet hooks. I discovered Susan Bates hooks in the early 2000's, and used them exclusively for years. Now I have started using the clover hooks, and I really like them. I will use whatever works for my project. Lord knows I have plenty of choices!
My limiting factor now is the handles. I need a big handle to relieve the strain on my hands. I have started putting big pencil grips on my hooks so I can use all of them. I have several types of pencil grip, and they all work for me.

Hi Kayla! Loved seeing all your hooks! I used to use any old hook I could find. I finally bought myself a ser of clover hooks and absolutely love them. I kind of kicked myself that I had waited so long in my crochet journey to buy myself some good hooks!

Clover Amour or Tulip Etimo hook all the way every day! Tried every other type over the past 15 years and these are my favourite tapered hooks. Couldn’t get away with Susan Bates and the inline hook style but it’s working for you Kayla 💜🇬🇧

Was catching up with some older videos before work, so this was the perfect video to wind down from a stressful shift to. Loved those custom and artist hooks you showed us, but I gotta say the Hork was my favorite thing of all! 😹🦈🐎I agree with having all sorts of hooks, you never know what the yarn will ask for. Another thing I realized as I got more into crochet, you never know how many WIPs you end up with using the same hook size! At first I kept using the same one, but found it easier to remember the hook size for the project if I just left the darned thing in the bag with the project! 😅 I've been itching to make some custom hooks handles myself, might be inspired to bite the bullet soon. I like the dot hooks. I wish the shaft was a little longer and that they'd make 6.5 mm and larger. I take them when I travel, I leave my clover hooks home. Thank you for all your videos. You are an inspiration ❤

I have Susan Bates, Boye , Yarnology and some Clover hooks. My Yarnology hooks are Hobby Lobby version of Clover and I love the Ergonomic hooks the best .
I also prefer a shorter hook. Your do right, sometimes the smaller the hook size the smaller the handle is. I use mostly all ergonomic hooks now because of my arthritis in some of my knuckles. I think I might have to look into getting a set of the dots. It was really nice seeing and hearing about all your hooks 🤗

I love my Odyssey hooks, my Tulip Etimo Rose hooks, first set…and some of my streamlines, too. I also love and have three or four wooden hooks from furls, also. I gave away a set of clover, as well. Gave them to my bff, that had spina bifida…she loved them
I have 10 fingers and a new set of pens with caps that I struggle to remove. I prefer a Susan Bates head and a knife hold although I first taught myself using a Boye hook with a pen hold. We all evolve in our craft though some more than others as you prove every day.

Hi Kayla, You have a vast crochet hook collection. When I started crocheting, I loved making doilies, so I used Bote steel hooks. Now I love Susan Bates with the foam handles . 😊

Tulip Etimo are my favorites. They are similar to Clover. I have Clover also but my hand just goes to the Tulip every time. 🤷♀️

Susan Bates has a set of crochet hooks that have a soft handle. You might want to try them.
Thank you for the Hook Tour and explanation! I have a small hook collection, and so far I like them all. However, I only buy hooks that have a "grip" to them. The smooth metal ones would give me hand fatigue. Your flat orange and white hook came from Hobby Lobby I bought a 4.5 hook from there and mine is green and white.
You have a nice collection of crochet hooks. I collect different hooks too. If I find some that are pretty, I have to get them. I do love my Clover hooks too. 🧶💜🙏🏻
Clover hooks have become my favorite now, previously it was a Boye or Susan Bates. I love you shark/horse. That's great! Those are foam grip tubing.

The hork! I like weird things too! I like my Clover Soft Touch hooks (the gold ones). Before using ergonomic hooks, I liked Boye. I snagged my yarn too often when I tried the Susan Bates hooks.

Thank you for discussing all the different hooks 'out there'. I honestly dont have a prefance in hook styles. I started out using Boye when I first learned to crochet because they were less expensive but thats not the case anymore.

I love looking at hooks. I have mostly Boyd hooks. You can never have to many hooks. I wish I had the same thing you have that you use for your hooks. Love seeing it in your videos.
Yes, totally agree! You have to listen to the yarn! I really like Susan Bates, Clover, or the Hobby Lobby hooks, but I can work with pretty much any hook. For shaft and handle size it really depends on what I am working on. I do find a longer handle to be more comfortable, but I can work with whatever is needed for the current project. The mermaid hooks are from Amazon. I have the same set.
I have mainly aero crochet hooks. Love them they are allmetal have my grandma's hooks and some think they are bone hooks. You are a very determined lady to continue to crochet after all your ops. Love watching how you crotchet you have helped me by going up or down a hook size. My dad's mother taught me to crochet and my mums mother helped me learn to knit.
I love the dots hooks because of their length and price. I agree with you in that the yarn tells me which hooks work best. I have a couple Furls Odyssey hooks and thank God they discontinued them because I wanted more colors! Not the wood or resin though. Thank you for this video. I always learn something from you!
Yes it is a beautiful day to crochet while listening to you Kayla talk about crochet hooks. I learned on a Boye hook because that's what my Mom preferred. Just about 10 years ago I switched to Susan Bates because of the shorter shaft & in line hook style.
I hold my hook like a pencil as opposed to a knife hold.
I prefer a boye head crochet hook. My favorites are actually the cheap no name hooks with the white/"color" (all different colors with the white) ergo handles from Amazon. Last set I bought was size D - J for $14. Very similar to your Dots hooks the handles are all the same size which makes changing projects with different hook sizes way more comfortable.

My hubby finds it silly I have so many hooks but like you said you really never know which hook the yarn is going to prefer to be worked with.
I usually crochet with Prym crochet hooks. They are very smooth for me and love the shape of the handle. I also like Hobby Lobby hooks with flowers on the handle.

I used to use generic hooks from Amazon, metal ones with rubber/plastic handles. Then I got the Prym set, plastic hooks with colourful pretty handles, and I hated them, they were so squeaky and caught in the yarn all the time. Finally I got some Susan Bates metal hooks with the rubberised soft grip, and I found my Holy Grail. I love the deep throat at the hook, they secure the yarn beautifully and I hardly ever drop stitches. The only problem is they are SO difficult to get hold of in the UK, I got my small 4 piece set from Amazon US (not UK). They are not available in UK craft shops unfortunately. If I ever get across the pond I will stock up on all the sizes.

I absolutely love your hook collection. When my sister found out that I was crocheting she bought me a lot of hooks from Temu and on line shopping place from over seas. It brought about twenty different size hooks no brand . They are metal hooks . They even have a very thin one like the ones used with the very thin thread.
My hooks were all handed down from my mother. They are boyd and Susan bates. I only use the boyd. I think I have one hero hook.

Cwas just tiny little blond peach fuzz that started turning to whiskers after menopause. Lol😂😂😂 looks more & more as I age that I'll end up with a beard when I get old. I know better than to shave cause that make it grow thicker & coated.blearned that watching a relative years ago.😊

I think it’s bone but is small and I don’t do small ones hardly at all anymore as it makes my hands hurt more. I have a couple of antique steel ones that have the tiniest heads. I learned on Boyd hooks my mom had. I have bought a couple of furl hooks but I do not care for them. When you’re crocheting the hook tends to roll. The furl hooks do not face a flat place to put your thumb which keeps your hook in the right position.
The Prym hooks I’ve heard a lot of people like them. I bought a 6 mm from Michael’s for $8.99 which I thought was pricy but I wanted to try it out.
I do like it. It gives you a fluffy stitch lol

I have boye(regular and ergonomic), Susan Bates(Mexico- Mennonite garage sale), and a few of the brown flat short handled clover (e, f, g from completing a project). I prefer the regular boye.i do have steel hooks mostly boye but I do have some odd brands but I left those at home so I'll have to look tomorrow.

I've collected a lot of hooks too & I've only been crocheting a little over 6 years. I've found I like the shorter necked hooks, like you do. I do like my dots hooks and some handled hooks from Amazon. I just got some cute silicone bead handle hooks but haven't tried them out yet. I have the prym hooks , did not like those! Or the ophire hooks, too long, but they sure are pretty😂. I love watching you talking about your hook collection. I have hook bags all over the place & I keep at least 1 of the hook for each project WITH the project. But I still lose hooks all the time!!😅 thanks kayla!❤😊Kayla! * oh, and I prefer the Boye style hooks, unless the yarn really needs a Susan bates.

Have you tried the tulips yet? They are very much like the clovers, and are wonderful.
I have always used Boye hooks but now that I'm getting older I have been modifying them with homemade grips to suit my carpol tunnel.
I prefer the Boye style hook head and started with those. Then I found the Boye Ergonomic handle hooks and fell in love. Since then I have gotten a set of Clover hooks and like those as well. With blanket yarn however, I use the bamboo handled Susan Bates hooks and it works best for me.

This was great. I absolutely love to see the hooks that other people have and use. Like you, I like a short chef on my hooks. Those big long holes can be beautiful, but they are just too long for me. I have child size hand, so I prefer, my tulips, my clovers, my beautiful, Knit Picks, and that’s valid. I do want to try one of the dot hooks though. I’ve heard good things about them.
Do you leave your hopes in your projects? A lot of people do. But I usually will put my hook right back into the container. I keep it in when I am through Crochet, because I know I lose things, and my eyes are really not very good anymore since I have glaucoma. I have you duplicate hooks, because I thought I had last one, but that’s OK. You could never have too many good quality hooks.
I learned to crochet on this beautiful, rose, colored nail crochet hook, that was my mothers. I lost that hook along time ago, and I still miss it. I used it for everything, not realizing at first anyway, that there were choices. I’m pretty sure it was Susan Bates , and the color was a beautiful rose.
