I think the use of super glue is quite common place in the fly tying community. However, since the introduction of super glue, the formula has been modified to enable it to be dissolved in water since so many people were sticking their fingers together! Although water resistant, over time, water can affect the glue to the point where it's no longer sticky and flies unravel...unless you use waterproof superglue. I think sticking with varnish is a bit old school but it's what I prefer. A couple of coats, although time consuming to do, still provides a nice deep and robust shine. I believe varnish is cheaper too😁
If you mean 'Tequila' style or two tone blobs, I'll be putting another video up in the next couple of days with both tying instructions and colour combinations I'd recommend.
Some comp anglers I know don’t sip finish, instead use super glue
