    Thanks Bonnie, Just applied this today. Expensive shears for what ever reason just would push (now i need to learn why). After putting on a high polish I went back and lightly hit it one one pass with a slightly rougher grit. Now it has bite and easily cuts hair without any push.

      Glad that helped. I hope to see you at one of my sharpening classes or seminars one day.

    As always great video.
    In your opinion what is the 1 reason a shear bends hair at the base after sharpening. I have had several do that and I have to go back over blade with lower grit.

      Many shears fold hair at this spot or even push at this place brand new. Although in an ideal world, this is intolerable but in reality few stylist cut with the first 1/4th or 1/3rd of the blade. I think the reason most likely is an alignment issue often created by removing too much metal and the ride in the area by the pivot screw. I am finishing up the editing on a video with a shear with a similar problem. On a new shear I think it might be a manufacturing issue perhaps with the placement of the hollow. Sometimes it is better, if possible, to let the stylist try them first and see if it is ok for them before you go a little crazy and remove too much metal or attempt to bend a shear and break it.

    This is what happened…I sharpened them and they were good with the rideline. They were tarnished so I put them into my sonic cleaners with CLR and they were more tarnished…in an attempt to remove the tarnish, I sanded that inside blade and I think that’s what also did it! I am a new sharpener (one week in) and I sharpen on the twice as sharp. They cut good on the intro but soon as it hit half the blade it folds everything over!

      Gotta know when to quit. Better a shear that cuts than one that is pretty. Depending on the brand of shears, it may be shot.

    Great advise ! Thanks, I get shears that are Quality German shears to sharpen that are just plain ol warn out. Some are 30 year old Jaguars, that end up like you mentioned. I have lessened the angle of the blade and sometimes shorten the tips a bit helps too. I will try leaving a little tooth to them also. Thanks again !

    Can you help me. I used a sharpening tool on my scissors but now instead of cutting it's slipping over whatever is being cut. Like I try to cut hair, it gets sort of trapped in their.

    I dealt with these German shears before I consider the metal in them to be junk looks like titanium which in some applications is useful lightweight but why on scissors doesn’t make any sense

      @BonikaShears  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hmmmm. I'm not sure if the metal is all that cheap, but they are budget.
