Your content is heavily inspiring me to start drawing regularly again! I have barely drawn anything for the last 10+ years, but now that the kids are grownups living on their own I have much more free time to get back into my creative pocket. I reckon that charcoals is the right medium for me to start with. Thank you! Edit: this drawing is just up my alley, or path if you will. Great work 👏
Mad . . . madly in love with your charcoal landscape! This Australian wilderness artist is begging you: More landscapes please. I would especially appreciate watching you subject a few landscapes to your mad, fast gestural technique.
excellent, I loved this, the finished product was awesome, really moody. A lot of atmosphere or ambience in that drawing that was very captivating to me. great stuff man. Thank you so much for this video.
I will watch almost anyone make art in one way or another but this stuff is pretty amazing man. Love that you can do with 1 color using many shades. Absolutely beautiful work thanks for sharing with us all.
As usual I am absolutely inspired by your work. I'm just beginning to create using charcoal so your videos have been invaluable to me. You're very easy to listen to and you manage to provide tons of information while demonstrating your techniques. Don't know how you multi task like that but I'm sure glad that you can! I continue learning from your work so thank you for that. Hopefully you'll continue making the tutorials because they're truly the best that I've seen.
I totally agree with you about being too hot to do a plein air painting outside. I live in San Tan Valley, getting ridiculously hot. Nice job as always.
Brother you could be an ASMR star with this too. I listen just because your voice and sounds relax my mind. Thanks, happy I found you. I do the same with Bob Ross.
You say "it's not a face" and the whole reason i watched is because I like how it looked like a picture focused close on the brow-ridge of a person with a subtle landscape emerging from the shadows of a face. I love art.
after watching your portrait shorts for i dont know how long I had the idea to ask you for a landscape, went to your videos section and first thing I saw was a landscape lol
I do some backpacking and have been looking for a medium to work with while at camp that doesn’t require many tools to work with and is light weight to carry. Charcoal seems like it might fit that bill.
I really enjoyed this video. I particularly enjoy hearing an artists thought process as they work. (I do wish you had a slightly better microphone setup. It was often difficult for me to hear what you were saying. ) I’ve just started drawing in charcoal and I find your videos helpful, steering one away from mechanical rendering of a reference, and leaning towards a more abstract interpretation of your subject. I loved how you reinforce having your viewer enter in and interpret things themselves and how them causes one to enjoy the artwork more that way.
Hi, Very much enjoyed this charcoal landscape demo. I focus on faces and figures in charcoal, but would like to experiment with landscapes and cityscapes. Can you recommend any sources of simple photo references? Thank you.
I want to know what lays in wait around the corner . 😊 Would be interesting to see how you would interpret Dorian Gray in charcoal. Thank you for this video, and I thank your wife also !
Hallo Mr.Mad Charcoal ich bewundere ihre Arbeit und finde das zeichnen mit Kohle und Graphit sehr spannend ..was mich aber interessiert ist was sie für Papier verwenden ..Grüße aus Deutschland

14:00 Depends on how your brain works. Some of us can see every little detail, every piece of hair, every leaf on a tree, etc. I still enjoy your art 😊
Not sure about him but I’ve used Krylon fixative but it has a very strong odor and works best to do it outside and then let it air out in a garage. I’ve also used regular hairspray and that works fine as well and not much odor

what brand of fixative do you use on your charcoal pieces? I loved watching this. I would like you to do one of these as a cityscape.

Great. What on earth happens to all the charcoal that falls on the floor and your feet? It must be all over your house.
He has a studio to do his art.
