Thank you SO much for this video! I was worried I'd have to call a specialist to come fix my piano, but I was able to do it myself in about 30 minutes!! I'm so pleased with myself that I just walk by, play the "problem" note and giggle. Thank you!! :)
+Austromark my mistake bro it was a typo, I was referring to those brown looking strings that help pull back the hammer Everytime you finish pressing a key.
Genius! I was wondering how to get that section out of my piano and you've saved me. I have an old upright from 1914 that I am in the process of resurrecting.
That was MOST helpful, it lead me to the fault which happened to be a spring. The spring had folded over, it snapped into 3 bits on removal (old and brittle). I replaced with a new spring from a pen cut to 15mm and fastened with bluetac. Will use glue if it ever pops out. Thanx to you we have music again. Very grateful to your tutorial. :)
Thank you so much for posting this video! Just went to practice after a long absence and have two white keys with that issue. Can't wait to now try what you taught! Might save me the $200 for the tuner to come to the house. Very grateful.
@@Austromark i've got at my home a förster piano, it's not august förster, it's just förster. do u know anything about it? seems like it's antique as well, cuz it has candle holders.
Hi Mark I have studio grand piano that I am attempting to turn into a bar and now that I have learned how to remove the knockers, I'd love to get insight on how to remove the entire metal bracket holding on the strings. any suggestions?
John Tanner; it seems like what your problem could be is either a sticky key from locked up action (caused from piano not being played) or a broken bridle strap. open up the piano and see if all the bridle stripes are intact. If they are then it's locked up action. to repair this mix together 1 half denatured alcohol and 1 half water. spray this solution of the pivot point of the the hammer then blow it with a hair drier. be sure to work the hammer back and forth as your drying it.
This is really nice! Although i dont understand my piano, my piano is out of tune, the keys are crooked and 2 of my piano keys fell down as in the piano keys are down and i cant lift it back up, nor can it play. They are also really loose that whe i play they arent tighy they just fall.
Dear Mark, I have a Schimmel 130T. A key doesnt go up, and have to push it up every time i play it (or hit A#). It seems that A# is one millimeter turned to the left and creates some friction with A. That friction prevents A from lifting. What would you do to the instrument for repair? Any suggestion would be extremely helpful. Thank you very much, Manu
I wonder if I can apply what I've learned from this video on my old piano...it's more than 10 years old...quite sturdy and such...but I've left it for quite some time without playing it...so, the sticky notes, the notes with the sound lost, you name it, my piano has it all...just wondering though, how do you fix a note that hits the string quickly? I mean, even when I press the note down and not lift it, it hits as if I was playing staccato instead of continuing to sound until it fades...
u know that par of the key that stops the string from making sound that little thig that touches the string when u are not holding the key it is not the litle hamer anyways one of the strings is blocking itt like i cant press the key i just need it to go up a little but i dont knowchow to push it up
Hello, I was Cleaning/dusting an old piano. However after replacing the key tops and trying to settle the big/heavy drum piece. Most of my piano keys stop playing. They were stuck. Is there a specific way of placing back. 😅ty
Austin deClaire It is a device by which you can make the sound of your piano very soft. For studying in the eventing without disturbing anyone. So, you should have 3 pedals under your piano when you have this. The pedal in the middle can be pushen down and pushed to the side with your foot so that is stays locked in place. Now you can study your notes. Not with a wonderful sound but your neighbours won't complain.
I have the same problem. Seems like it doesnt have to do with pressing the key, but the hammer itself has something wrong with it. maybe a spring or something like dust jammed in-between the hammer and something else. for whatever reason some kind of friction or tension problem is keeping the hammer from not going back to where it is supposed to be.
I forgot to tell you.My piano has to sticky G flats and how do you fix it if the keys are only staying down i always have to lift the key up to play it again.
Thanks! Not knowing a thing about the inner workings it would be nice to know the name of the parts, tools you used and just narrate what you are doing. Thanks again. Wondering if I need now to spend $125 to have a technician come and fix it.
Hello Is be honest what you see here on the video is what I know. did the problem start after you followed this video? What you could do is locate the defect key and try and to work out whats stopping the movement and work from there.. sorry I cant be of anymore help.
What you actually did was to re-glue the jack back into the whippen! Working at pianos is addictive if you have the patients and dedication you could start replacing all the felts leathers and doing a full regulation. Provided the tuning pins are all reasonably tight it may be worth while,,, but then you may just want to restring and replace all the dampers and hammers,,, mind you provided the soundboard is in good condition you more or less have a new piano after that!
Just follow the video which I walkthrough step by step a simple guide which will hopefully get your piano working again, please post a video once it's fixed!,good luck 👍
Thank you! Managed to fix my piano with the help of this video (:
Glad I could help.

Hi I'm not totally understanding your question ❓
Still gonna call the specialist cause my dad ain't gonna do this right and I ain't either. Lol
question I have a hammer that does not fall back after it strikes the string how do I fix it ?
Can I send you a picture of my keys? It seems like it's impossible to take the the particular mechanism out of the row of mechanisms.
Did you manage to get a repair done on your piano?
There is a new piano I like, but some few keys stick when pulled up. Is this a problem ?
What was the part of the piano called that resembled a felt strip on a metal bar? My piano has the same thing and I know nothing about it

What type of glue do you find works best?
When you take that thing out does it untune it or no??

Looks like an old " Ackermann, Stuttgart" piano. It seems to have extraordinary many (20) one -string bass notes.
What was the song played at the end?
@mandolinman2006
I used Express wood glue which sets in 5mins,which I brought in Austria, its very cheap around 5 euros for 500g.
@itswitzmoab technically tho, white glue needs to be clamped tight for the best bond!
I forgot to tell you.My piano has to sticky G flats and how do you fix it if the keys are only staying down i always have to lift the key up to play it again.
Amazing ...thank you so much

What's the song at the end?
Some ragtime song, my daughter played, sorry no idea
What if it has sound but not sounding right it was like buzzing

The right names: the jack had become unglued out of the wippen
What kind of glue must I use?
I used a quick drying wood glue
what kind of glue was used pls
Sia P I used fast drying wood lime, just takes 5mins to dry.
+Austromark thankyou
