    Starting to use words like “per se”, “prima facie”, “bona fide” is one way that law school has changed me....

    Thank you for making this video. I just started law school at UOttawa and it was such a culture shock. We were being praised for just being there. We had not done anything yet and we were already the best of the best. I hated that, I didn't want to make myself believe that I had made it. There is still alot of work to be done and I wish we had talked about the successes and failures to come rather than the simple success of being accepted to law school. Since then, I've been reminding myself that I'm here to help others, not to celebrate how great we are. I think students need to be reminded just how much we can help the world become a better place.

    Humility in life (and the law) goes a long way. At the end of your days would you rather be remembered as someone who made a lot of money or because you always had time to chat with others? Stay humble, good advice.

    can u do a video on best strategy on how to study and not fall behind i start law school at ucalgary in sept and I'm afraid my undergrad methods aren't suitable
    like do you just do readings and take notes how do you time manager reading huge books and take notes
    also how to actually take notes i know its odd but I've seen others in law school make table of contents in word or categorize
    stuff like that

    • @sarahamelia9939
      @sarahamelia9939 6 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      My advice for you and others in law school or any graduate program is to work a week ahead. For example, the week before your first week of class is when you do the readings and assignments for the first week. Then the first week of classes your doing work for week two. Then week three you do work that's due in week four. Hope that makes sense. Also, start making an outline EARLY so when it's time for exams your outline is done and all you have to do is study it.

    • @143ea
      @143ea 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thanks Sarah thats actually really helpful
      also what do you mean by outline? what exactly is an outline in terms of law school? sorry if its a silly question its just in undergrad id just go back to my lecture notes/readings notes and study off those just re read and rewrite the most important things

    • @sarahamelia9939
      @sarahamelia9939 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It's ok not silly at all! It's great to ask these questions so you know what Needs to be done. Basically, when you go to your law school class the prof will lecture, go over cases etc. you talk some notes on that. Then you have to take notes from the textbook. After that you combine all those notes into an outline in Microsoft word. At least that's what Most people do. This outline for one class might be 50-60 pages. So when it's time for finals. You just study from that outline instead of the giant textbook or big notebooks with hundreds of notes. Some classes might have the final be open note/book so you can bring your outline with you. Most people do a table of contents so they know where to find what information. Outlines are not just notes you could also reference cases you learned about and what the holding was etc

    • @sarahamelia9939
      @sarahamelia9939 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I know you'll be going to law school in Canada. But here is a sample outline for a criminal law class at NYU. www.law.nyu.edu/sites/default/files/upload_documents/Crim_Barkow_2015.docx Of course laws would differ between Canada and the US. However, It should look a little some thing like this. You find your own style once you start classes. Or you could get a head start like when you work ahead. Itll give you time to learn and adjust without falling behind! :) also, look through Lynnea's videos she did post a video on studying for exams a while back.

    Nice video. I am a 1st year law student. This video is so relatable. I always love watching your videos. Please keep making videos. There are very few quality channels on law student and law college on TH-cam and yours is one of the most honest one. Love you lynnea. One question do you have any Integrated course of law in Canada as in India we have courses like 5 year integrated courses like BA LLB, BBA LLB ?

      Thank you so much!! I'm not sure about other schools, but I believe OttawaU has a JD/MA program and a Canadian and American dual degree program. I don't think there are any programs that combine a BA with a JD, but I could be wrong. Hope that helps!

    The same happened to me regarding the news. I believe both age and law school influence, there is also personality, however I do think law school has the most influence when I compare my interests post law school with my other friends that are not lawyers.

    Is it true you can't have tattoos or piercings if you want to practice? I have a small nose ring and a tattoo right above my breast. It can be covered but it also peaks through occasionally. Do you think this would prevent me from getting past the interviews?
