The death of Kevin Conroy is what opened my eyes to the fact that these voices of our childhood won’t be around forever and as much as it sucks, they’re eventually gonna have to recast. What makes it tough for the case of Dragon Ball and Nozawa is the fact that she voices the whole Son family and not just Goku. I think that’s what’s also so puzzling about the anime’s hiatus is the fact that she’s up there in age but yet Toei is taking their time with bringing the anime back. Hell the English dub cast already lost Chris Ayres so that shows that taking these long hiatuses isn’t a good idea fr
@@QaamansLand with Toei, it’s hard to predict what they’re gonna do but if I had to make a guess, because Nozawa’s voice is so iconic and irreplaceable, I could see them going the AI route, I don’t like the concept of AI voices but I can’t see them recasting her especially since they said awhile back that they haven’t been looking for a replacement for her. But because of how Japanese culture is so big on being respectful, that’s what kinda makes me doubt the AI route so it’s really a hard position that Toei is in with Nozawa and what to do after she passes
@@lucidmind9676 Idk. They recasted Bulma and her voice actress was just as iconic as Nozawa. She was around since dragon ball episode 1 just like Nozawa was.
It's interesting that you brought up Nozawa at this time because I've been thinking a lot about her after Kevin Conroy died. I felt sick that we lost what I considered to be, the true voice of Batman after he had played that role for so many years. The first thing I thought of was what would we do if we lost the voice of Goku as well. Nozawa came to my mind because of her age, She unfortunately, may not have many years left and we may actually be losing our Goku in the near future. I also thought about Sean who is really my Goku because I watch the dub, and I couldn't imagine how hard that would be having Goku without his voice. We just lost a legend in Kevin Conroy, the definitive Batman. I'm so scared to lose another one with Nozawa and Goku.
I don’t want to sound disrespectful but I can’t say I’ll miss her voice for Goku as it sounds way too whiny and makes my ears bleed but she seems like a pretty cool person. I barely watched the Japanese dub for Dragon Ball because of her voice so it’ll be even harder for me to miss her but as I said before she seems like a cool person and may she rest in peace one day.
Qaaman, I just wanted to say i appreciate you and your channel so much, and hope that you continue to post and give the DB community the education, and thoughtful conversations it truly needs.

For sure! I can't even imagine Dragon Ball without her iconic voice, I heard the Japanese DBZ first. She is irreplaceable in my opinion. Her voice as Goku is iconic as Goku himself!
I can't see myself tuning in to a version of Dragon Ball without her. Hiromi Tsuru's replacement took a lot to get used to, but I predict it'll feel impossible to get used to if we're talking about Nozawa.
@@QaamansLand My knee-jerk reaction is "Entirely unacceptable." At that point I'd rather the anime bow out gracefully. I don't currently read manga often since my eyesight isn't very good, but at least then I can use my imagination to hear their voices in my mind without having something step on the legacy of the VAs.
@@QaamansLand As cool as the idea is a respeecher would just tarnish her legacy. When that day comes that Masako bows out so should dragon ball, no actress/actor or technology could ever do anywhere near her phenomenal performance. It's literally impossible for my mind to imagine any other outcome.
At first I was not used to Nozawa's VA and that is coming from someone who watched the series in both Mexican and English dub alike. But as time passed on, I grew appreciating her job as the Son Characters and the Dark Goku variants. But I do agree with your points about her situation and such. But it doesn't disservice just her. But also the other Voice Actors of the Dragon Ball series, like Nakao Ryusei or Ryo Horikawa among them.
Here in Italy we lost our Goku, Paolo Torrisi, in 2005 at the age of 54. When DB Super came out, obviously another voice actor was chosen. I'm not gonna lie it was very difficult at first (and it's clear that is going to be even worse with Masako), but luckily Claudio Moneta was good enough to carry the weight.
I feel instead of thinking about the future of the voice and how much time the voice has we should be appreciative of what she’s done for us as fans and just encouraging what move she thinks best and always thanking her for what she’s done for all of us
I've been watching you for YEARS. Thank you for being transparent for when you first heard the Japanese dub. I surmise most of grew up off the funi dub, but I have respect for the OG MIss Masako is a legend thank you for making this tribute bro.

Masako Nozawa's been voicing Goku since 1986, when she was 49 years old, and God bless her if she wants to continue voicing him and other Dragon Ball Characters, because it's up to her whether she wants to retire or not. Her passing is always on the back of my mind and my heart always skips a beat when I see a Tweet about her in Japanese text, thinking the worst. I love this little old lady and I will respect whatever decision she makes about her future.
Son Goku is immortal, Masako Nozawa is not. The day is going to come when we hear the words “Masako Nozawa has passed away…” and we need to accept that. I believe Toei’s best course of action is to find a replacement that Masako PERSONALLY approves of. I don’t know her, but I don’t believe she’s the kind of person who would want Dragon Ball to die with her.
@@QaamansLand It hurts to be reminded that she’s in her sunset years, but like you said, it’s something that cannot and should not be ignored. As healthy as Masako is now, all it takes is ONE thing to happen out of the blue to take her out of the picture. She’s much more frail than she was 30 years ago.
I don’t want to hear anyone else as Goku. The day that she passes is the day that Dragon Ball dies. She is the same age as my grandmother and I’m still flabbergasted by the fact that she’s still doing this. Whatever she decides I’ll respect it, it’s her life. If there is one person in life I want to meet its her. I don’t have any singer or actor or athlete or even a royal that I would want to meet. I love her for everything she has done.
It's been an honor to hear such a masterful performance by Mrs.Masako. and while I'd love her to never stop being that iconic Goku we all love it's honestly not fair to put all that pressure on one persons back. It'd be a sad day to see her retire for sure but knowing her legacy we should be proud all the same
@@QaamansLand it just wouldn't be the same. Like you mentioned even if it's 99.99% accurate a piece of tech is no where near anything the real Masako could do she breathes so much life and energy into her roles.
thanks for making this video. I hadn't thought about it this way, but yeah it is sad one of the most profitable franchises is dragging its feet, disrespecting the talented people that make it possible. and overall the japanimation and videogame industries are full of difficult times of beloved actors and animators passing away from exhaustion-related health issues (animators), depression (Mr Satan), or issues that were completely preventable with a healthier lifestyle (Bulma, and Vegeta who's voice has been ruined by ... smoking ?)
@@QaamansLand it changed my perspective, previously I didn't realise that delaying DBS does a disservice to the voice actors, and more than that, I thought we were lucky that Nozawa is still doing voice work, and we shouldn't be demanding of her to do more... But it's totally the opposite, she's passionate about her work and she deserves better.
I grew up watching the dub of DB and DBZ, but when Super first came out, I settled with subs, and my goodness, I can't believe what I was missing out on. Nozawa is the GOAT, I love her work.
Young at heart is what keeps here coming back to Goku! IF you mentally feel old and act old then it doesn’t really matter what age you are You will feel old Being young at heart keeps you young
overall im grateful we still have such an icon with us, and the sad day that she does pass, i will forever look back on her work with upmost appreciation for her dedication to the role throughout her life
This definitely came to my mind when Kevin Conroy died. The only difference is there are many voices of Batman but Nozawa is the only Japanese Goku(and other Son family). To answer your question tho, if Nozawa was my mom would I still let her do this? I think I would. Its a tough decision but If i was 86, I would want to do something I really enjoy on my last years. You can tell from the interviews that she really loves this.
I think it's important that people are put in play to potentially replace people who are getting older and won't be able to play a role forever. I don't think this is relative to most in the East because we have RARELY heard her before. Also, we ( the Dragon Ball community) are not putting it on her back, but the creators who decided to end/go on hiatus with series have created this conundrum. I think that until she doesn't want to do it any more, then she should be able to continue voicing whoever and whatever whenever. This is a nice and inquisitive video that causes you to pause and think about real life situations. Good job Qaaman.
Great conversation Qaaman. Nozawa is the main face of Dragonball and she has been with Dragonball since the beginning and she is getting old. I agree that’s it’s not fair to her to have all this weight at her. I hope the studio is prepared for this in the future and they have possible successor. Nozawa will always be the voice of Goku in our hearts.
@@QaamansLand No I did not have any issues with the current title of the video because it status Nozawa’s current age and status and what’s going to possible to happen in the future.
As a huge Dragonball fan this reality cross my mind constantly every year in recent years and Toriyama himself is up there as well. Nozawa is like the cool grandmother that babysits you after school because those were the times Dragonball Z would air on T.v. And everytime it was like hearing her tell a grand story. Because her influence on my life growing up and hearing her voice acting has definitley saved me from dark times countless times throughout my life. I really pray for her health, life and that she continues to stay strong and happy.
Part of me wonders if her age has something to do with them not moving forward with a continuation of Dragonball Super. Nothing public mind you but i can imagine a world where there is a conversation about this very thing internally in regards to the anime. That’s something that has crossed my mind anyway. Kudos Qaaman for bringing this up though. Tough conversation to have but it’s something to think about.
@@QaamansLand Not at all! Feel like it was done very respectfully and it is a reality that we all got to face. Hope for the best to Nozawa and that she remains healthy for many years. But voice acting, especially DB voice acting is not easy and her age does need to be taken into consideration.
I’ve thought about it and rather than seeing this from a fan’s prospective of loss I’ll try to see this from what I precieve is Masako Nozawa’s perspective. From what I can tell she enjoys voicing the Son family due to the the amount of love and care she puts into her work. Out of respect I would not suggest replacing her until truly necessary.I think until the day she retires by choice or life she is going to continue to do what she does best and enjoy the ride.
Honestly this is such a tricky line to walk, you either get the device to match her voice but lose the humanity, or keep her around despite her health being degraded, what’s worse is suppose they get someone to replace her like they did with bulmas JP va God rest her soul, Nozawa has a unique voice that I feel would be hard to replicate without it sounding too hammy or bordering on parody, there’s another option to this too but I feel like it’d be too disrespectful and that would be get someone else to do their own Voice of Goku
When she goes, it'll be just as fucking sad as when Kevin Conroy. The Japanese will mourn hard for her for sure. She's an icon, she IS Goku. Like Qaaman, I to grew to love her voice as Goku. That technology used to replicate her voice is so dangerous. Who's to say it's not already being used in a negative way already?
I feel the same , everything gets harder with age ,especially at that age, even doing regular tasks we take for granted. Acting and re takes plus the hours spent must be hard on her, especially trying to hit those notes. Its somewhat true that people want to live longer when they have something they want or love (not specific ilness) just regular ageing , some people are tired of life while other hang on it because how much they enjoy being here. My grandma died at 88 , I cant imagine making it close to that age.
its going to be a sad day when she pass away I pray that its not soon since I grew up with og dragon ball I feel like she's a part of my life. nice video man
I love her too , always used to bother me why she still keeps doing it... On a different Note, in all you what if's usually the alteration of something would cause Z-Warriors to eventually lose against Androids but have you considered "What if Goku destroyed Dr Gero during his rampage against the Red Ribbon Army". Another What-If suggestion: What if Super Buu(and Gotenks) couldn't escape Room of Spirit and Time?
I've been thinking about this for a while. I hope she's picked her successor already (or Toriyama picked her successor), but man, can one other person play all the characters she does. It's crazy to even think about another goku va in Japanese
this is actually sad when u think about it... as for right now near the end of 2023, still nobody can replace her... i can't imagine losing her since i grew up with her voice
Clicking on this video I was expecting mostly a "We have to prepare ourselves for a soon departure from Nozawa most likely in her passing away what with her old age". But this video touched on more topics that I'm glad you brought up.
@@QaamansLand Like Nozawa's eventual retirement, & how we should see it in another perspective like "Would I want my grandmother doing this at her age?" The latter would've never crossed my mind.
Such a great video topic quinn. Ive thought about this in my head recently. She wont live forever but out of respect for her they should hurry up with super.
@@QaamansLand My thoughts on her retiring is that i think she should continue to do it if she feels happy doing it and shes healthy enough to continue to do it.. Secondly i dont think anyone should voice goku except for her. And a respeecher man, She so iconic idk if i feel good about that i wonder how she would feel if someone asked her about it.
I respect Nozawa a ton. My concern is that voicing these characters may do her vocal cords great harm. I know it's a bit of a meme especially in Z, but voice acting these characters is not healthy for the vocal cords especially at her age. I hope the best for her though and hope she'll continue to do what makes her happy and fulfilled.
the wild part is some va's not even reaching 50 are struggling. There's two seiyuus of School Idol Project era Love Live fame, seiyuu of Honoka and Kotori, having vocal chord issues *during their roles* . Meanwhile we have Nozawa, doubling their ages, sounding the same as she did in the freaking late 80s.
I've never liked Nozawa's voice for adult male characters, and I don't think I ever will. But damn if she's not one of the artists I respect the most in the entire world! She's just so badass. Keep in mind she's not only an actress. She's also a voice director and even has her own production company. I mean... DAMN! If I get to be her current age and be half as active and full of life, I'll consider myself incredibly fortunate.
I agree with all the concerns. The one great thing nowadays is that recording tech is very mobile. I’d like to think the audio engineers can come to her house or have a little setup to be able to record her voice without having to leave the comfort of her home.
@@QaamansLand I feel very mixed about that being an actual thing to happen with DB, but I’m not opposed to them trying it in secret for a scene or two just to see how it feels to the ear.

Im very afraid for the future. We just lost Akira Toriyama. Toriyama was 20 years younger than her and we lost him out of the blue. Nozawa is 87 now and Daima may very well be the last time she performs. May god bless for many more years.
I've thought about this over the years as well. When the time comes, I feel some good replacements for some of her characters would be: Goku: ---Koichi Yamadera (think his Spike Spiegel and Shun Akiyama voices a bit, I feel he'd capture the laidback-ness perfectly. I know he voices Beerus already, but I think it would be great for him to voice 2 different characters) ---Akio Otsuka (While he usually has a deeper voice that you can hear in Solid Snake, Big Boss, etc, something tells me it could work like how Sean Schemmel's and Peter Kelamis's voice do in the English dub. The deep voice would work wonders when he goes SSj3 and SSj4 as well) ---Kappei Yamaguchi (voiced Goku in the live-action dub in 2009, though I think he'd be better for Gohan. He has wonderful range though, which makes me think he can do it...from Usopp to Feitan in HxH, to Akabayashi in Durarara, etc) ---Katsuyuki Konishi (he already voices Ginyu, but he voiced Laxus, Amidamaru (who Schemmel coincidentally voices in the SK dub) and Kenshiro a couple times too...they all have some similarity with Goku, and I think he can find a voice for him) ---Toshiyuki Morikawa (something about him voicing Minato and Shinada in Yakuza 5, makes me think he could create a suitable voice for Goku. Plus, he's a just a veteran) ---Takashi Kondo (he voiced Toriko in the OVA, and also voices Terry Bogard, so I think because he's played characters with similar personalities as Goku, he could create a lively voice for Goku like how Nozawa does) Gohan: -Kappei Yamaguchi, as said before Goten: -Megumi Han, just thinking of her voice for Gon Bardock: ---Rikiya Koyama (something about his Ging Freecss and Kiritsugu makes me think his voice would be suitable) ---Tomokazu Sugita (I'm thinking of his voice being somewhere in between his Ragna the Bloodedge (Blazblue) and his Katakuri in One Piece...I feel like it could work) Tullece: -Hiroshi Kamiya (He already voices Gamma 1, but he'd have to go for a more snarkier voice here I guess. Tbh I'm not sure this is a good choice, but I guess I'm trying to find a voice that sounds like Chris Cason in the FUNi dub)
i actually assumed she stepped down from voice acting for some time now. especially when i saw a few dragon ball related videos where this guy was dressed up as nozawa and was doing the goku voice. it was so on point that i actually assumed it was her. had a wig and some stuff on his face to replicate wrinkles and all. i figured he'd be great to replace if need be. obviously i started watching dragon ball z in the early 90's with the ocean dub, so i was used to the english dub, but some time along the way, i got ahold of the movies and episodes of orignal dragon ball, so i was used to the japanese voices and over time preferred them over english. as much as i love her as goku, i think it would be nice for her to enjoy her remaining years without being overloaded with voice acting. cause she isn't just doing the shows. shes doing the movbies, the 20 dbz games we keep getting.....and still no xenoverse 3!!!! if she enjoys it and it makes her happy, then that great, but i just don't like the thought of her being over worked at her age.
Nozawa Is so great as a kid i didn’t like at first at 9 years old but as i got older i appreciate her voice acting. 💚 she is the best Goku imo but she is definitely a legend to the voice acting industry!
Nozawa-San is like the Grandma of the Seiyuu world, she’s been the founding block for some of the greatest of all time… it wouldn’t be the same without her.
I truly believe when Masako Nozawa passes (or retires), dragon ball needs to end as well. I don’t doubt they’d continue a manga or something similar, but I feel like the series would never be the same without her voice.
As a kid back then I wasn’t really a fan of her voice but now I am but hey When you’re young you don’t like somethings but then when you get older you like it
Masako Nozawa isn't complaining, so neither should we, as fans. When the time comes, Goku (and everyone else she voices) will be inevitably recast. Japan's voice actor/character culture - whereupon an actor is usually tied to their characters to the point of "retiring" characters if the VA is no longer able to portray the character; note: this is not 100% and there are numerous examples contrary - would most assuredly prevent any form of AI/artificial voice copy.
@@QaamansLand It's nifty technology, sure. And Disney is a soulless, Corporate entity that has CGI'd other actors to look like other actors (Luke and Leia) so it makes sense that they would utilize a fake voice to mimic James Earl Jones.
I've been watching Dragon Ball in its original Japanese language for 30 years now (started in 1993 with bootleg copies of Japanese videotapes because I could no longer stand our mediocre and heavily censored local dub here in France), and I just can't imagine anybody else than Nozawa voicing Gokû. I'm quite sure the Japanese voice talent agency will find a suitable replacement, but I'm afraid it will never be the same again...
Although I also prefer the Funimation English version of Dragon Ball and its related series because it's what I grew up on, I have much respect for Masako Nozawa because she's been voicing Goku in Japanese sense before I even existed. Knowing that she's 86 years old now, I would hope that they have an understudy or two in mind, because let's be honest here for one second. There may come a point in time when she says "I'm physically unable to do this as well as I once did." I'm not exactly sure how it works in Japan but I know for a fact that if a certain actor is unavailable to portray a certain character that is still needed in a show what they do is have another actor voice match them when necessary. To give an example, when Chris Ayres passed away because of COPD, Freeza was and still is alive so Damian Mills succeeded Ayres when voicing him. Things like this have also been done for other cartoon series that are not anime as well. I'm not saying that it's an easy decision, but if it is something that needs to be brought up do it with the actors/actresses' wishes in mind and do what's right for the character.
Well the fact is fans better deal with this..there are fewer days ahead than behind for her..the same can be said with the studio as far as a possible replacement..they have a responsibility as a company to prepare for this..there is no we didn't see this coming excuse.
@@QaamansLand Yeah..I'm not trying to be mean spirited but fans need to man up and face this head on..running from it is not the answer..at 86 we have no idea how long we will have Nozawa with us, it's literally a day to day blessing with her in this situation..I have always been in the camp of I would rather have time to prepare for a passing than a sudden passing I wasn't expecting or prepared for and I think the studio from business perspective needs to go forward with this in mind.
I'll admit, i wasn't big on Nozawa until i heard her voice Goku Black and realised that she could pull off that Darker, deeper evil tone. Like many others i was used to the more masculine, less "squeaky" tone of the english dub compared to JP. Since then though, i've felt i could connect better with Goku's normal voice and its no longer as jarring as i can hear the nuance in the performance better. Her Goku Black was truly phenomenal. It's tough to imagine how Dragonball will go on without Nozawa.
@@QaamansLand no, but I'm sure there are plans for when she eventually passes away or retires. I heard some rumors about her having an understudy but that's it... Nothing official just rumors. Do you think Db will die if she stops voicing goku?
They should use Respeecher for dialogue and archive audio for fight sounds/screams. There's countless of hours of her voice from the series and video games making those sounds over the decades no one would notice.
You're right putting a lot of this on somebody who is 86 is Too much, And I have been saying this for years, But I'm pretty sure They do got a good replacement for her.
@@QaamansLand Honestly I'm not a fan of the idea of artificial When it comes to doing voice acting, Cause like you say it does take human side Of things, Artificial can be used in many ways but not when it comes to Certain job positions like voice acting, So I do feel like they should go with a more younger actor But I don't know if there are plenty of young Is men and women down there That does voice acting, Giving that Japan For years has been dealing with birth rate Issues & The country is ranked as one of the oldest Where the average folks is up to 48 years old, And mostly the real reason why it's like that, Cause things are expensive down there And nobody can afford to have a family Of their own, Which kind of sucks.
It’s bout time someone addressed this. I’d be alright with it even tho I grew up on the Japanese and English dbz. I can accept the fact that people get old and might wanna move on or pass away and it’s just that simple

Hell the English dub cast already lost Chris Ayres so that shows that taking these long hiatuses isn’t a good idea fr
What's your prediction?
@@mauricereticau6292 true and I do feel like that’s more respectful compared to the AI route
Not helping is that English dub might replace Daman Mills.
I understand this which is why the video was made. It's a painful conversation that we have to have
I don’t want to sound disrespectful but I can’t say I’ll miss her voice for Goku as it sounds way too whiny and makes my ears bleed but she seems like a pretty cool person. I barely watched the Japanese dub for Dragon Ball because of her voice so it’ll be even harder for me to miss her but as I said before she seems like a cool person and may she rest in peace one day.
@@jaydenlenzy3487U don’t want to sound “disrespectful” then make the most disrespectful remarks about her character voice

You gotta be honest bro. Thanks for the kind words.

What about a ReSpeecher?
Good points. I focused mostly on her since she to my knowledge is the oldest. But I don't know the other ages.

Good point. What did you think of what was discussed here today?
@@QaamansLand It hurts to be reminded that she’s in her sunset years, but like you said, it’s something that cannot and should not be ignored.
As healthy as Masako is now, all it takes is ONE thing to happen out of the blue to take her out of the picture. She’s much more frail than she was 30 years ago.
This was needed, man. Great thoughts. I appreciate your seriousness in discussing this
I don’t want to hear anyone else as Goku.
It'd be a sad day to see her retire for sure but knowing her legacy we should be proud all the same
What are your thoughts on the Respeecher at 6:37?
@@QaamansLand it just wouldn't be the same. Like you mentioned even if it's 99.99% accurate a piece of tech is no where near anything the real Masako could do she breathes so much life and energy into her roles.
thanks for making this video. I hadn't thought about it this way, but yeah it is sad one of the most profitable franchises is dragging its feet, disrespecting the talented people that make it possible.
and overall the japanimation and videogame industries are full of difficult times of beloved actors and animators passing away from exhaustion-related health issues (animators), depression (Mr Satan), or issues that were completely preventable with a healthier lifestyle (Bulma, and Vegeta who's voice has been ruined by ... smoking ?)
What did this video mention specifically that you didn't think of?
@@QaamansLand it changed my perspective, previously I didn't realise that delaying DBS does a disservice to the voice actors, and more than that, I thought we were lucky that Nozawa is still doing voice work, and we shouldn't be demanding of her to do more...
But it's totally the opposite, she's passionate about her work and she deserves better.
I grew up watching the dub of DB and DBZ, but when Super first came out, I settled with subs, and my goodness, I can't believe what I was missing out on. Nozawa is the GOAT, I love her work.

To answer your question tho, if Nozawa was my mom would I still let her do this? I think I would. Its a tough decision but If i was 86, I would want to do something I really enjoy on my last years. You can tell from the interviews that she really loves this.
What do you think about 6:37 The "Respeecher"
@@QaamansLand hard to say. I think a successor would be more "human" but regardless it won't be the same
I think it's important that people are put in play to potentially replace people who are getting older and won't be able to play a role forever.
The way the first half of your comment was worded made it seem like you disagreed. Especially the part about us putting so much on her back
I feel bad how much she has to stress her body to do a voice like this considering how much screaming there is
Nozawa is like Kevin Conroy. You just can't replace her.
As long she still enjoys voicing Goku, I’m 100% OK with that.
What about 6:37 and the Re-Speecher idea?
Great conversation Qaaman. Nozawa is the main face of Dragonball and she has been with Dragonball since the beginning and she is getting old. I agree that’s it’s not fair to her to have all this weight at her. I hope the studio is prepared for this in the future and they have possible successor. Nozawa will always be the voice of Goku in our hearts.
Brilliant comment did you have any issues with the current title of the video?
@@QaamansLand No I did not have any issues with the current title of the video because it status Nozawa’s current age and status and what’s going to possible to happen in the future.

@@QaamansLand sorry. I know, your good. I was just scrolling and misread it Lol. Scared the shit outta me.
Did the title or topic feel offensive in any way?
In more detail, what do you think of the point at 6:37?
I wish her good health!

Toby, two questions.
1.What are your thoughts on the idea of her retiring

2. Using a "Respeecher" to continue using her voice?
@@QaamansLand My thoughts on her retiring is that i think she should continue to do it if she feels happy doing it and shes healthy enough to continue to do it.. Secondly i dont think anyone should voice goku except for her. And a respeecher man, She so iconic idk if i feel good about that i wonder how she would feel if someone asked her about it.
I respect Nozawa a ton. My concern is that voicing these characters may do her vocal cords great harm. I know it's a bit of a meme especially in Z, but voice acting these characters is not healthy for the vocal cords especially at her age. I hope the best for her though and hope she'll continue to do what makes her happy and fulfilled.
i cant even imagine doing the lines shes done and im a young lad, but at her age it doesnt seem right...
the wild part is some va's not even reaching 50 are struggling.

I've thought about this over the years as well. When the time comes, I feel some good replacements for some of her characters would be:
Goku:
---Koichi Yamadera (think his Spike Spiegel and Shun Akiyama voices a bit, I feel he'd capture the laidback-ness perfectly. I know he voices Beerus already, but I think it would be great for him to voice 2 different characters)
---Akio Otsuka (While he usually has a deeper voice that you can hear in Solid Snake, Big Boss, etc, something tells me it could work like how Sean Schemmel's and Peter Kelamis's voice do in the English dub. The deep voice would work wonders when he goes SSj3 and SSj4 as well)
---Kappei Yamaguchi (voiced Goku in the live-action dub in 2009, though I think he'd be better for Gohan. He has wonderful range though, which makes me think he can do it...from Usopp to Feitan in HxH, to Akabayashi in Durarara, etc)
---Katsuyuki Konishi (he already voices Ginyu, but he voiced Laxus, Amidamaru (who Schemmel coincidentally voices in the SK dub) and Kenshiro a couple times too...they all have some similarity with Goku, and I think he can find a voice for him)
---Toshiyuki Morikawa (something about him voicing Minato and Shinada in Yakuza 5, makes me think he could create a suitable voice for Goku. Plus, he's a just a veteran)
---Takashi Kondo (he voiced Toriko in the OVA, and also voices Terry Bogard, so I think because he's played characters with similar personalities as Goku, he could create a lively voice for Goku like how Nozawa does)
Gohan:
-Kappei Yamaguchi, as said before
Goten:
-Megumi Han, just thinking of her voice for Gon
Bardock:
---Rikiya Koyama (something about his Ging Freecss and Kiritsugu makes me think his voice would be suitable)
---Tomokazu Sugita (I'm thinking of his voice being somewhere in between his Ragna the Bloodedge (Blazblue) and his Katakuri in One Piece...I feel like it could work)
Tullece:
-Hiroshi Kamiya (He already voices Gamma 1, but he'd have to go for a more snarkier voice here I guess.

@@QaamansLand I think calling Disney "soulless" in their use of it is probably a good indicator.
Shooting real, THANK YOU SO MUCH for being honest. We can't keep hiding from this discussion

It’s bout time someone addressed this. I’d be alright with it even tho I grew up on the Japanese and English dbz. I can accept the fact that people get old and might wanna move on or pass away and it’s just that simple
Masako Nozawa is strong person and powerful she said she be voicing characters until she be 120 I believe she be strong and health because I can't see any one else take her place she Goku she always be Goku.
I know it's scary because we lost Kevin Conroy voice of Batman and now Jason David Frank Green Ranger but that doesn't mean we be loosing more I believe Masako Nozawa will be safe and healthy plus she and I have alot in common like we both have same birthday 25th October and we love Dragon Ball and Son Goku Kakarrot I love Masako Nozawa.
Christ…now I’m finna cry
Man
Guilmon's voice actor is really getting up there...
I would be heart broken if my favorite digimon VA passed tbh
I know it'll come eventually, but I won't be ready
And now she's 87!
Huh?
Her family should be so well compensated for her work for like, generations.
I really wish her the best in her career and life
There's no way Toei would be able to replace her for Goku.
Gohan and Goten can probably be recast, but the anime is just going to have to give up on Goku except for cameos using old voice data when the day comes that she decides to retire or passes on.
But what about after that then...?
@@QaamansLand can you rephrase the question ❓ I'm not sure what you're asking
Who would they replace her with after retirement/death?
@@QaamansLand no clue. I'm not particularly familiar with the voice acting industry, especially outside the US.
Presumably someone who sounds somewhat similar to her. Probably two people one for Gohan and one for Goten.
@@lakotatheenigma9767 if they recast Goku I would riot and I imagine hundreds of thousands of fans would do the same
i wouldnt mind if she retired. shes done so much
But what should the business do then?
@@QaamansLand maybe use the AI thing? sure it would have the human aspect missing but if it means she can enjoy the rest of her life then i wouldnt mind. in the end its her choice
It's a situation I've thought about personally for a lot of VAs but I don't just bring it up in casual conversation because...you know.
