    Replacing letters with numbers isn't a good idea, it doesn't slow down hackers at all

    • @Hsanity
      @Hsanity 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      You are replacing letters with numbers or any other variation like symbols to protect you against brute force attacks. More characters + more variations = Harder to brute force in.

    • @JFizoust
      @JFizoust 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@Hsanity Sayed is correct. So imagine a program attempting every known word in the dictionary with said Wifi name or email.
      If your password is " apple " then this program will hit it rather quickly.
      If your password is " @pple " then the program will likely not.
      If your password is @ppL3 " then it would take a super computer something like 3 years to guess. And honestly nobody with said equipment cares enough about your life to even bother. Especially when they can trick you into installing a key logger or malware and you give them everything they want.

    • @velkarra471
      @velkarra471 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@JFizoust Said is wrong. This type of password may be good with simple bruteforce, but don't forget many rule books are already adapted to it. @ppl3 or R0cKy are atrocious passwords, easy to crack. You need to go for combinations and something that only makes sense to you.

    Leet speak replacement in password are weak, machines trying to guess passwords know these as common substitutions. Much better to have personal typos or quirks. But even better to focus on phrases, like you suggest in the end.

    • @deaththekid922
      @deaththekid922 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      i used to use leet speech , so if my password was "league of legends"
      it would be L34gu30vlfk3nTr
      if you see the word i originally had , you can still recognize it but otherwise its just word and number salad ( the one f in legends is "proceed to the next letter in the alphabet" , same with the r at the end , which is going back from s
      and from what i know , its usually best to just throw your head into your keyboard for a password , so like "wregoiewysdcrxk4hyrx4h3w52r"QW§%TSDvs

      should contain at least that, not limited to that, see my comment.

    • @Ken.-
      @Ken.- ปีที่แล้ว

      Because it would have a larger character set to be checked. if you only used lower case letters with a length of 8 there would be 26^8 = 208,827,064,576 possible combinations of passwords. If you used from a list of all character types there would be 95^8 = 6,634,204,312,890,625 possibilities. For each additional character you add to the length, it multiplies it by 95.
      Put simply it's less likely that someone would crack your password with a larger number of possibilities to try. That being said, mathematically if you only used lowercase letters and made it much longer it would be just as strong as a short one with all the characters used.

But for people with little to hide, they're asked for more and more create the most ridiculous passwords for nothing. Especially for people in their eighties or ninties, it isn't as simple as you think, especially when they have no one to help them, and they shouldn't.

    That is correct as per the video, putting a special char at the beginning or the end of your password and any amount of numbers with 1 word inbetween is easily hackable, I can run a dictionary script that will crack a password like that and the script will process 8000 words a minute with special chars at the beginning and end an any amount of numbers, think aabout that, I could probably crack a users password in 10 mins, bet that makes you think about your passwords, the way to get around it is use 4 random words and mix it up a bit, even something like HorseDogBikeSmile is pretty hard to crack, throw something in there that wouldnt normally be there and you make the password 10 times harder to crack, so again: Hor_seDogBike5m!le not my passwords by the way, the understore halfway through the word Horse is a big spanner in the works as it wouldnt normally appear there, now you have passwords containing more than 8 letters, special chars and a number.
