    do you have the isolated audio for the bass? i'd like to hear it by itself if that would be possible and this the is the only demo of these pickups i know of

      Sorry, I don't have the original bass track itself. Just the final mix uploaded here. These are awesome pickups and I highly recommend them, but remember, this tone is a result of all the ingredients. The bass, the strings, the pick, the amp sim etc. Not to mention player technique. I have learned over the years that with the right combination of ingredients you can achieve a tone greater than the sum of its parts. These pickups just may be your magic ingredient in achieving this as they were for me. Best of luck on your tone crafting journey!

      @@jcwm01 speaking of, what strings and amp sim do you use?

    • @jcwm01
      @jcwm01  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I use Dunlop Super Bright Stainless Steel strings. The amp sim is the Boss GT-001. I'm using their Natural Clean guitar amp sim. I actually prefer it over their bass amp sims. Never liked the Boss sims for guitar but this one worked perfectly for me on bass.

    Everything about this video is awesome. That's the perfect P bass sound. I'm going to order that pickup right away. I'm going to try those Dunlop strings too. Thanks for posting that. Nice playing man.

      Thank you for the kind words Conrad! I also use Dunlop Jazz III red Max Grip picks and I was playing through a custom patch on my Boss GT-001 directly into my computer using Reaper as my DAW. It's a great recording setup. Let me know how the pickups and strings work out for you. Cheers!

      Thanks! I'm really enjoying getting back into playing some bass. A totally different discipline than guitar for sure. With guitar you can be a little rough around the edges and it sounds cool. Not so much on bass. Precision is key. Glad you like!

  • @JeffSmithbureau13

    Hmmm....I was thinking of upgrading a PJ with some Quarter Pounders, but this sounds really good, and is cheaper as well.

    • @jcwm01
      @jcwm01  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Jeff, I'm VERY happy with these pickups! I must admit though, I have very little experience with different bass pickup types. Mostly guitar. I was actually looking at the Quarter Pounders before I came across these. I never did get them so I don't know how they compare. Although, I'm sure you would be happy with either. It would come down to personal preference I suppose. Good luck on your tone journey and stay safe!

    Well-done! So you only replaced the P pups but not the J pup? I'm looking at doing something similar with my Squier. Any other changes in the 2 years since you made this? Good? Bad?

    • @jcwm01
      @jcwm01  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey, thanks! Yes, only the P pickup. The J is completely disconnected. Since the vid, I installed a brass nut I got off eBay and a Precision-Machined Brass High Mass Bass Bridge from the Performance Music Company Reverb shop. I didn't notice much of a change with the nut but I found the bridge improved string to string balance. I love that bass! Cheers!

    Seamless fit with the original vocals and instrumentals! Were you part of the original band? If so do you have a picture with you band haircut?

    • @jcwm01
      @jcwm01  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Cory, thanks for commenting! It's actually a sound-alike backing track with the bass part omitted so you can add your own. A very good quality one though. As for 80's hair pics, I'll never tell...😉

  • @caseypayne5138

    Did you leave the pots stock or did you put in some 500k ones instead?

    • @jcwm01
      @jcwm01  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The pot I use is original. I disconnected the bridge J pickup completely and also bypassed the tone control. So electronics-wise, it is just the ECS P pickup into the original volume pot and out to the jack. I also relocated the volume pot to the control closest to the bridge. I don't know the value of the original pot but it is actually a reverse log pot so I just kept it. These "lefty" pots can be hard to come across. Plus I'm lazy...😁

    • @jcwm01
      @jcwm01  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have since upgraded my bridge with a high mass Performance Music Company bridge from Reverb. Greatly improved string to string balance.
