Outstanding job! What people don’t realize is that obtaining parts and materials is very difficult and expensive in third world countries, yet labor is relatively cheap. When it comes to maintenance and restoration of vital pieces of equipment, creativity, ingenuity and improvisation play a major role in keeping machines working and operational.
It does you no good if the labor is cheap if the pump fails after running it for ten minutes. Bearings are inexpensive compared to a breakdown when you depend on a piece of machinery performing a function that makes you money; otherwise, the owner could have painted it and called it a restoration for the price of a can of spray paint. The shaft packing was also incorrectly installed, not to mention he used the old packing, which is wrong. Packing is cut one piece at a time, the diameter of the packing gland, and the split line is staggered during installation with each successive piece.

Hey man you can't pound bearing on like that, they'll never last long. Just replace them with new ones and use an arbor press or hydraulic press to install them. Don't paint gasket surfaces either. Do the job right or don't do it at all. 🇺🇲
Had my share of these type of backyard shops. - We have it done for you, come back tomorrow.. Some of them may save the whole project or it can at least keep on until you reach “dry land”. Thank you all you repairmen out there for the time and effort, possibly also for your positive approach when things seems lost.
Good video mate. You done well to separate it in the first place. I think seeing it in operation would keep the haters quiet. Keep up the good work. 👍🏻
I understand that people will use materials that where deemed as "scrap" back into a second life. However this Pump is up to no job it was designed for after this restoration. Reusing the ballbearing, reusing graphite cord.. really??? and those are the simpel parts! how about the check up of the measurements of the impeller to the static part of the pump. It looks nice, but that is about it.
@bigbadb10 seriously ? You really need someone to tell you ? First off there are two kinds of restorations . A partiel restoration and a full restoration . The first one depends on what the client is asking to have as a result of the restoration and the second kind involves restoring the objet to its original shape and looks and condition as well as its fonctionuality .This One is obviously a partiel one . But even a partiel one has to have a certain degree of basic restoration done to it beside new bolts to replace the old one . That guy just took off the rust at 99% not restore it . And the methods he used are risky for the object to say the least . Using a torch on a cast iron water pump housing is a NO NO cause heat will enventually crack the housing . Secondly he has sanded the main shaft without resurfacing the shaft to the right size and specs and even worse he re-used the old Berring whitch was completly rusted at the start . Secondly gasket sealants without a gasket did not exist in the mechanical industry untill only recently and water pump gaskets were specially designed rubber made in those times . The bolts that he used are normal modern steel bolts while the ones from those times were made of the same alloy as the rivets on the hall of a ocean ship like the Titanic . He re-used the same leather seals for the shaft and did not re-surface any of the seats for the gaskets using modern sealer to fill in the imperfections between them created by the rust .And i'll stop there cause there are many more mistakes . Now if the client wanted only a look restoration with no intention to make the pump fonctional just for exhibition intents thats ok but even that needs be original as much as possible and done the right way .and the methods he used had a lot of chances of destroying the object beyond repair if ever in the future the owner decided to go for a full restoration in the intention to make it fonctional and as clost to what it looked like when it was made . Obviously The owner only wanted a clean up job with no intention to make it fonctionalin the future cause if he did well he is in for a choc when he will try to get it running cause water will be coming out more from the leaks than the outlet and thats only if he manages to charge the pump. I've repair enough water pumpsin my life to know that something like this will be a total failure on global scale and that you never use a torch on cast iron pumps
Have mercy. Judging by the motorbike delivery, no crating, and limited toolset, this is an Asian shop. What country? Think on that a bit, but we do know one thing: the clothes rack says he does not have a dryer. Also note the fan and open door at 0:57, which says there's no air conditioner either. The number on the box is the puzzle, however: +001 is international usage for connecting to a US number. Main point: english appears to be a second language - the better term would be refurbishment. "Restoration" is leading some people to think like a museum collector which is wrong: this is clearly a "make it run - we don't have any parts [or their numbers] available for this job" operation. Even the packing got re-used. This pump probably began life as a boiler feed unit judging by the belt drive coupling, and is repurposed somewhere out in the countryside on a farm - belt drive would keep the motor up and safe during monsoon season for the most part. So to the hard working host, having little, doing most: chuc mung nam moi! [yes, it's early but it's coming]
What's sad is that he's probably just doing this because he knows youtube will promote crappy work. If it's for a ship this thing won't last 2 mins when way it's rebuilt. He couldn't atleast covered some of the parts he was willy nilly painting.
Very well reconditioned ! Well done! You sure done a damn good job of restoring it back to what it used to be etc ! And again, putting all of the parts back together again in the correct order is somehow the most difficult & hardest to assemble etc - FANTASTIC !!!!!! What can I say !! 😨😮😲

No gaskets and putting old stuffing box flax cord, definitely a no go. For all that work, you're already in there, its not expensive, just replace it.

Why wouldn't it be functional? The housing, impeller, shaft, packing flange and bearings all seem to be in working order. Once the motor is hooked to the fly-wheel with new belts it should work fine, as long as there is no damage to the impeller and the housing has a good seal it should work as well as a new one,it's not like it's a high tech piece, it's just a simple belt driven pump.
