  • This video details how I built the back hatch or galley of our overland camper trailer. It is waterproof and holds all of our camping tools and items. It also houses all of the electronics for the camper.

    Please let me know any questions you have about the trailer build. I am happy to share my process and any tips.

    Great looking camper that something that I’d like to build with my 5x8 utility trailer. Just curious not sure if you used pressure treated wood on the bottom base to prevent wood rot and exposure from the environment wind, rain, hail or snow if the high hills.

      Great question. I did not use pressure treated wood, but I did coat the bottom in Raptor Liner. Thank you for watching and subscribing to our channel! We appreciate all the support!

    I've been wondering how to do the backdoor as I'm designing mine, very similar to yours. Curious did you insulate the door or the "galley" wall? I know you did the floor, roof and sidewalls from your other video but didn't catch about the rear.

    • @FunkeAdventures
      @FunkeAdventures  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I insulated the galley wall. There is no insulation on the door itself.

    Hey man, just wanted to reach out and say I really get a lot out of your videos. I am in the process of building a similar Squaredrop and you've been inspiring to my build. I just started with the TH-cam thing and I see you have been growing your channel quite a bit and doing well. Any advice for a beginner?? Also I did have a question on the rear galley door. Did you ever figure out a way to better place the gas struts?

    • @FunkeAdventures
      @FunkeAdventures  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks so much for sticking around and watching my videos! TH-cam is a great place to start when planning your build. Also, the community at tnttt.com can be helpful, but it is not the easiest to navigate the site and the community can, at times, be intimidating and judgemental (just my opinion). For some reason there is a little bit of elitism in overlanding and even in the DIY overlanding community. Also, sometimes you just have to go for it and not be afraid of making mistakes. You will rarely make a mistake that is detrimental to your build. most things can be fixed in the future. At times, it might cost $50 for a mistake, which isn't cheap, but the stuff you learn along the way is well worth it.
      As for the gas struts, I did figure out a better way to place them. You will see it in the upcoming videos, but to make it simple, I made my top shelf in the galley not stick out as far, so it doesn't get in the way of the strut. Then I bought a slightly different mounting plate which is stronger and doesn't stick out as much.
      Thanks again for watching the videos!

    You need to leinghthen the bolts to the gas struts to clear about nother 1/2 inch would do it.

    Hey there. Nice build. I may copy your copy of Clint's. Do you do anything extra to waterproof where the vertical walls meet the "floor"?

    • @FunkeAdventures
      @FunkeAdventures  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Mike! Thanks for watching our video and subscribing to our channel! We appreciate all of the support. I used wood glue to seal up the joint. Aside from that, I covered the seam in raptor liner. I have actually changed and updated my build a little bit. I recently rewrapped the trailer in aluminum because my raptor liner was cracking. The raptor liner was awesome, but the plywood underneath it started to crack and warp which messed with the raptor liner. I have a video detailing that process which should be out in the next couple of weeks. I also just started a new trailer build and I am documenting the whole process to hopefully give everyone a better view of how it was bulit. Keep an eye out for those videos coming up. Thanks for watching!

      @@FunkeAdventures I’m currently wrapping mine in plywood and raptor liner. Should I instead wrap it in aluminum? I don’t plan on overlanding mine, just dirt roads and such. What do you think caused the plywood to fail? Thanks

    • @FunkeAdventures
      @FunkeAdventures  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I believe that the wood actually cracked from expanding and contracting in different humidities. it is just the outside ply that started to crack. The sun beating on it during the utah summer definitely didn't help. I am hoping that the aluminum will function better. I know others have used raptor liner with success. I talked to one company that uses raptor liner on their production builds. But they fiberglass the entire thing before adding the raptor liner. If I were to do it again, I would go that route.
