    Man what nice trip down memory lane!! Very nostalgic goodies right there. Seen so many Pyramid EQ's at the fleamarket back in the day. The Optimus equipment wasn't half bad either. It's too bad the internet put Radio Shack out of business. Then again, they were taken over several times by different owners. They weren't the same by the time they went under. I liked it better when they were Tandy. Awesome video bro. 👌

    Love all of your content Big D! Can't get enough, watched every video, most of them several times. If you ever get a chance a video of 2 amp strapped vs the same 2 gain matched, might be cool, always been curious if they do twice the power at 2ohms. I recently changed my set up from strapped to gain matched and I think it sounds a little better. Was hard to get the output equal though, seemed like when you turned one amp up, it caused the other to go down 😆 Might of just been my volt meter. Anyways looking forward to your next video, cant wait to see if the hcca can handle the .5 dynamic test. Till next time Bro, keep being you!

    Great video Big D!!! 👍👍👍 I can remember seeing these in some flea markets back in the mid to late 90s for about $100.00 give or take!!! RADIO SHACK always sold good products but they we're always very pricey you could always find their stuff cheaper elsewhere!!! I think in my life time I have only brought like three items from RADIO SHACK!!!

    Back in the day, you have two options:
    1.)Get a tape head unit(Alpine!!) then buy the CD changer later.
    2.)Get a CD head unit
    3.)for me: Get a tape unit and use one of those Aux tape devices and plug in your Discman

    Lol nice video Big D, reminds me of driving around back in the day, my first radio was a clarion pull out, whole thing slid out with the handle on it lol, push in and pop out treble and bass knobs cassette and when the Sony CD players came out got one too later in 94, they skipped like crazy I had a Jeep and it got so bad a semi hard shift would make it skip, remember there was no loud button had to hold select and one of the number buttons for loudness to come on , oh the memories!!!

    My dad had this Optimus cd36 in his 1989 S10 Blazer. Really cool deck the only problem is after about a 2-hour road trip it heats up gets pretty hot. It also has a tendency to scratch CDs in the same exact spot upon ejecting. But it's really cool to hear the eject and CD insert sound again! that brought back a lot of memories.

    Nice deck! That would fit beautifully in an 85-90 model year car... 0 bling factor to clash with the old dashboard. I love that eq too, but the face is kinda ick with all the chrome and text. If it were plain black it would fit right in with that CD deck. Keep it up, i'd love to see more old school finds of average stuff every once in a while :)

    That is a cool deck. I wish they made more stand-alone decks, especially cassette decks, with preouts that were this quality. I got back into cassettes and been looking for a good stand-alone deck to hook to my modern SQ system. I made one DIY using a Delco deck from an 89 Pontiac Sunturd, but the faceplate looks really out of place (light gray face with red backlit buttons.)

    • @richardbates2367
      @richardbates2367 ปีที่แล้ว

      Cool I actually liked the 93 quasar light blue and red pinstripe Pontiac sunbird Le even though I didn't care for the dash because of the audio system sections of the head unit control head, but I wasn't really a fan of the 2.0 H.O. gm 4cylinder motor it had especially since at 115k miles it needed a replacement cylinder head and a good known used casting checked over of a sealed running motor from a auto network recycler inc was cracked between where the cam followers went anyways I ended up getting rid of the car rather than putting a Buick 3800v6 series 1 motor in it because a new bare cylinder head casting and only found 2 in 2003 was going to cost me $1,250 plus $250 shipping and since the replacement was $450 I said nope unfortunately other than the head being cracked and the exhaust smoking because of the cracked head car ran great, unfortunately no one wanted to give anything for it so I sold it to the scrapyard and that was a shame considering as nice as the paint was and that it only had a dime size rust hole in the rear quarter panel right behind the Dr side door

    In high school, we bought so much Radio Shack car audio stuff just to try it out. Most of it sucked which is why we returned most of it. The store manager didn’t like our little posse of car audio buyers/returners. The winter after high school, that same manager was kidnapped after closing up for the day, driven down the freeway, robbed, and then murdered. True story. Big Rapids, MI 1995.

Now I am going to date myself here, but I will tell you the best back in the day speakers I ever owned were Jensen Mind Blowers 6X9's in my 1968 Ford Torino fast back Fire Engine red with a 390 and 4 speed. I remember that...i was in the 8th grade and was bummed cause everyone was like tape cassette players are going away and CD players are in but SUPER expensive.

    • @wal
      @wal  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, I remember the $400 “budget” CD player shootout in CA&E

    • @richardr5888
      @richardr5888 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wow, now I really feel old because I remember when cassette players were expensive. Couldn't wait to get my hands on one that could play metal tapes, had Dolby C, auto reverse (because having to eject and flip the tape for music on the other side was a pain) and had AMS (auto music search) with the ability to skip several songs. Hey, only having to wait 20 to 30 secs to skip 3 tracks was cutting edge back in the day. Also, compared to 8 track tapes that you could only "play" or "fast forward", - being able "rewind" on a cassette was amazing! 🤯😂😂

    I had one of those!
    I sold it to a pawn shop after I realized it was putting 3 little jagged scratches on my CD’s!
    Then I got a Sony that I had till it was stolen out of my sister’s XTerra.
