Blackmagic 4K, 6k, and 12k are cinema cameras, which means they are to make movies. Planning, blocking, light, audio and etc., just like an Arri. Arri does not have auto-focus and all the other hybrid function of a Sony A7 line on steroids, hence the FX3 and 30. Skin tones on 4K and 6k superior to the Sony on steroids, braw codec is easy to work with and superior quality images with 12 bits vs 10 bit from the Sony on steroids. If you’re a TH-camr or run n gun videographer the Sony is for you. If you are a film maker (Cinematographer) making a motion picture then a pocket “cinema” or 12k if for you. I’m tired of everybody comparing hybrids against the 4K or 6k which are true cinema cameras. And stop with the whole full frame crap. With the exception of the Arri LF line All Arri’s pump a super 35 cmos sensor and are the standard cameras in the film making industry. Sony’s top camera shoots on a 36 x 24 mm sensor and also shoot 16 bit RAW. See the trend. No auto-focus on the Venice or Venice 2 cameras. Again, great cameras for the novice, run n gun shooter or wedding videographer.
I hope you got your frustration out lol but I definitely disagree with you on saying Blackmagic has a better image also I can get the exact same log profile on my fx30 maybe I’ll do a video on it.
@@TrevorFilms808Then you need your eyes checking. I have both the bmpcc6k pro and the fx30. The blackmagic image is definitely better. The fx30 is good but looks far less filmic and less highlight roll off. Also the fx30 has about 2/3 stop less dynamic range. That's not opinion, that's pure fact. Go and test them both together and you'll see and that's not even factoring in highlight recovery in braw (more like 1.5 stops difference then). The noise is also far harder to clean up on the fx30, 4k 120 is useless due to the crop and excessive noise, even in decent light sometimes. The only single reason I bought the fx30 was to supplement my blackmagic when weight and size are important (family holidays, really tight spaces). The moment blackmagic release a smaller camera, the fx30 will be put up for sale.
@@followthefocusofficial I’m not talking about natively I’m talking about with a convert I’m gonna put y’all on with this. I’m definitely do a video now.
FX30 is underrated in my opinion. I love that you can rig it all you want, but you can also strip it to the max and take it anywhere. Having sensor stabilization is also a great plus
I have both and honestly it’s hard to choose which one to use. If I have a color grade in mind it’s the BM. If I just wanna have fun and easy going work.. the FX30. The FX30 is such an underrated beast. But BRAW is definitely king for me when it comes to color grading.
Choosing the "right" camera depends on the use case. It seems you got now what you need. Blackmagic cameras offer a good valie for the price. I agree for run and gun it's not the perfect camera. But in combination with with Davinci Resolve it's a joy to work. Plus Blackmagics color sience and image quality is insane. Good start with your YT channel like it.
Many don't seem to understand what the BMPCC is really for. They are for filmmaking, not event work or vlogging, which many seem to also complain about in a lot of their videos.
I agree. But this is not something to be ashamed of (i feel like he might take this comment as insulting 🫢) Blackmagic 6K is an incredible camera for shooting commercials, short films, even doc work. I get it tho, it’s much cooler to call yourself a filmmaker 😂
I shouldn’t be responding to this but just to be clear your saying the bmpcc6k make you a filmmaker? But a run & gun set up like a fx30 doesn’t. Just want to make that super clear for the people reading your comment 😂
Not saying that at all. Is the use you give to the equipment you have and, to some extent, the equipment you buy or rent in order to make a video or a film (two different things). And I'm not speaking about narrative filmmaking only. In fact, being a videographer doesn't mean that you can't be a filmmaker at the same time. It's really about the type of production you make and the tools you use to do it, depending on the story and the way you want to tell it. @@TrevorFilms808
@@TrevorFilms808word. My buddy has the BM and let me hold it on set. With a gimbal, I damn near fell over. I jumped at the FX30 and will eventually acquire the FX3 as well.
I highly recommend downloading the the high res comparison that Mateo Bertoli did, if your a cinematographer and image quality is your priority, fx30 is still a ways behind and very compressed but for people who want autofocus and don’t do professional shoots on a set the fx30 is great
The fx30 has dci and si which have barely any compression at all. And I just shot a movie on my fx30 using the xavc-s codec which is half compression, once you transcode the files to pro res, they're amazing to work with. So much information. Only run the risk of pushing footage too far if the scene is underexposed. And in camera you can get better performance in low light. The bmpcc6k struggles in lowlight even in outside situations. Was on crew for a feature shot on the bmpcc6k and they couldn't even think of going over 1600iso. The fx30 has a second base of 2500. In my opinion the fx30 is superior to the bmpcc6k in terms of image quality. The bmpcc6k beats the fx30 in features tho
Definitely understand the approach with wanting something easier to work with. Something not as heavy also. There is a camera out there for everyone. Some will go through the tough learning curves, will get stronger to hold a cinema rig, etc. and some will want to ignore those tough learning lessons to just get the work they want done. These videos are good for people to watch before buying. Much love man.
While i really miss autofocus on the sony I wouldn't even dare to switch to any flagship sony camera except those who are made for cinema for my work I would love to buy something like a fx30 for a second setup when I don't care about nailing the perfect exposure and just need to shoot something and need it to be quick and easy I would rather shoot with the original bmpcc which only has 1080p but cinema dng raw and beautiful colours, just simply bc it stands out more and is much more flexible in post
The k&f brand I’ll make a video on the exact on I have but it was really hard for me to choose because people where telling me it’s not good when stuff is good there’s a lot of miss information out there just trust your gut.
I am in the exact same position with my BMPCC6k, thinking of getting FX30 as well. Do you ever shoot handheld? Would be interesting to see your opinion on sony's IBIS after leaving BMPCC
Sounds like maybe you didn't do enough research. The BMPCC cameras are filmmaking cameras, not really meant for event work or "vlogging", due to the lack of auto anything. Most people buy a BMPCC because they are making films (narrative and documentaries), not shooting weddings. Professional film cameras do not have auto focus or auto exposure. Holding a camera for 2 hours straight??? Why? When I used to shoot weddings, I would always shoot with at least two cameras and they all were on tripods, until the reception. Then, we would all switch two hand-held. In the wedding days, I was using camcorders then anyway. Plus, BMPCC shoot in 12 bit color when shooting BRAW. Less color banding.
My buddy shot a full length feature film on a 6K that ended up landing him a huge job and career. It’s a tool for professionals. I have the pro and have yet to exceed its ability, only mine. The FX 30 was created to bridge the gap from absolute beginner to FX3. It was a market play for Sony. Personally, if I was going to shoot on that, I would just use my iPhone. In the right hands, almost any cameras, gonna look amazing.. but implying the Blackmagic is obsolete compared to an entry-level video camera is laughable. I’ve been looking at an FX3 or fx6 because certain aspects will make my life easier not better.
Only difference between Fx30 & Fx3 is full Frame. Other than that its the exact same camera. Idk why you're saying it entry level. You're basically saying the 6k pro is entry level by that logic? Also why everyone so mad lol

blackmagic is for those who want to shoot films, so manual focus should not bother since it is intended for small budget filmmakers, but if you are much more into wedding videos, clips, etc. then it is not for you, in a cinema film, we will never use autofocus
You do know the fx30 can be put into Manual focus mode as well right? Auto focus gives you more options other than just only having Manual. I thought as a film guy you should know that.
@@TrevorFilms808 yes I know, and I would have liked to have autofocus on the pocket but since it's not the case, we make do with it. but it gives raw videos internally and that's great for post production, the cameras are not perfect, each with its advantages
