    hi tj. That is Stringybark. It's an Australian native Eucalypt. Its like the pine of the Eucalypts. relatively light. Burns hot and fast in a fireplace, good for construction, but the White Ants love it. Not a very interesting looking for furniture. I definitely wouldn't smoke my fish with it or use it to flavor Bourbon. It was lying on the side of the road so I picked it up. I re did the tray on my truck with it. not the sides, just the floor.

    Ok. Sounds pretty interesting but I'm in the middle of renovating my kitchen (the sawmill was for my benchtops) then I'm building a rental property in my front yard. The next project I am going to post will be fitting solar power to my house. So sorry but I can't help you with the pellet mill. My initial thoughts is make a sausage machine. Ie an auger pushing a paste of the pellet material through an orifice of the diameter you want the pellet. You may need a binding agent unless you compress

    Check out the vid of the Peterson mill. It will swing thru 180 deg and has a guard to suit. Like I said I was getting lazy by then and couldn't be bothered ripping off their design. Regards Troopy.

    I'm not really sure what you mean. I googled pellet mills. I assume you mean using the the sawdust for making pellets. What do you use them for? I've been using the sawdust in my chicken house or just into the compost.

    Once you have a g/box and a blade. Work out the length of the shaft you need to join them together. Remember that the gbox must swing thru the center of the input shaft and the blade must be a distance of the radius of the blade from the swing axis. My shaft was made from mild steel and I made sure there was a bit of adjustment available. I took my parts to a local engineering shop told him what I wanted and he made it for me.

    I decided to only swing the blade thru 90deg cause I was getting a bit lazy by that stage. It would be a matter of putting anchors for the handle at every 90 deg. The handle would start from horizontal, be vertical for the horizontal cut and then horizontal again for the other vertical cut (if that makes sense) The problem comes with having a guard to accommodate these movements of the blade.

    I had a bit of a look on TH-cam. I was way off. do a TH-cam search and type in. Pellet fai da te. Check out the related vids as well. Basically rollers pushing the mixture through a series of holes in a plate then breaking them off at the right length. Good luck.

    First of all I'd just like to make it clear that I don't want advertise any of these company's and that I'm not getting any kick backs from any of these manufacturers. These are just the products I used. I found them online and they delivered via a courier or the post. and most importantly the worked for the application I used them for.

    Unless you compress the mixture A fair bit then cut them to length and dry. I'm only guessing but that is where I would start. Thanks. Troopy.

    are you going to make one for the up right position of the blade??

  • @x3wayassassin
    @x3wayassassin 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    nvm i seen it in the video but i was asking if you were gunna put another one on when you swing it in the other direction. but how do you hold the blade in the vertical position? do you have to hold it or is there a lock mechanism?

    Great project and even better job on the construction and completion of your swing blade mill. How much money do you figure you've spent on its construction. I recall that you already had the motor from something else you had. Any idea on the number of hours it took to complete?
    Lastly what is the capacity of the mill? How big of a log will it handle?

    Hi there. The mill cost about $1500 and took about 10 days. I was going to use the engine on my log splitter. But a brand new 15 hp motor off eBay. I have cut logs that are a metre in diameter. Thanks

      troopy when you answer somebody's reply touch their comment. Then reply, that way they know you're talking to them and TH-cam will give them a notification

    well the pellet mills can basically use any type of bio mass such as saw dust, leaves, cardboard, paper, grass. but the pellets can be used as feed towards animals if made out of the right material or used for heating houses. i am pretty sure there are other uses for them but i dont know about them.. thanks

    Well the 10" Lucas Mill uses a 30 hp twin cylinder petrol motor so I guess around that size would be a good place to start. Maybe a motorcycle engine or a small diesel.

    any idea on were to get a 24 inch blade from? because thats what lucas uses and the shaft that you had made to be attached to the gear box what is it made out of? and is it possible to get a higher hp rating on the gear box?

    Calculation. The go to orders and find a supper in Aus or Nz. One of these suppliers may ship overseas.

  • @troopy001
    @troopy001  12 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    That depends on what diameter blade you use and whether you go electric or internal combustion

    the next project that you should do because no on else has plans videos or any information on would be a pellet mill because you would be using basically every thing from the tree. i have personally not been able to find anything.. the lowest pellet mill i have seen was $4,000.. which i obviously do not have on hand lmk what you think or if you you could help me with it or something.

    I bought my blade from Sawcare in Tamworth NSW Australia. They have a website and deliver. tjhammer mentioned a supplier in the states called Bayleys ( see the comments in vid3) they sound reasonably priced and they sell Lucas Blades. Apparently

    If you have decided on the size blade you want and the hp of the engine you want. Go to the bare- co website. Look for the main index and then agricultural gear boxes. ( if you buy one of these gboxes make sure it has oil in it before you use it) find one that is rated to the engine output and that is a 1:1 gear ratio. ( unless you want to match the engine torque curve to the recommended blade speed. Then you may want to work out what ratio you want. Don't ask me for the formulae for that calcu

    MAKE SURE YOU USE GRADE 12.9 bolts to bolt the blade to the shaft.

    do you have any drawings of your project? I would be interested in doing something like this. I do like that you are converting your rails to something more portable. Going to the log is a lot less work for most folks. In my case, I would enjoy cutting logs that tree removal services cut down in my town. Just assemble the frame around the log and start cutting lumber. I just bought 45 acres of farm land and have a lot of projects that require a great deal of lumber.

    i would like to get a 10 inch cut which would have to make the blade above 20 inches. and i would rather internal combustion over electric for operations else were near an power source..
