    I have have heard that the latest lens firmware .03 has fixed much of the video AF problems that you highlight. What firmware were you on? Great video, as always!

      Unfortunately my sister has the lens currently 😅 I did update the lens before making the review but I don't recall the version it was on unfortunately. I'm sorry that definitely would be a key piece of information I should have included

    Nice video as usual.
    I had the Sony Zeiss 55mm f/1.8 and it was a real blade in terms of sharpness.
    Actually I 'm using the Sigma 45mm f/2.8, and I'm very surprised about built quality and performance. It's softer than Zeiss 55mm, but it gives you kind of "analogical taste" on your photo.
    I suggest you to try it if you can.

      Thank you! I've heard good things about the sigma, I like it's size. I haven't had the opportunity to see it yet but it's been on my radar, if I get the chance I'll give it a try thank you very much for the recommendation 😊

    I would really love to hear your opinion on Sony FE 16-35mm f4.0. I love this lense when i travel around. It is my absolute go to for any kind of picture when I walk around landscapes and cities, but I would like to hear your points because of your knowledge!

      Hi Laila, though I am familiar with the 16-35 focal length I actually have only seen the 16-35 f4 one time so I can't say I have a ton of experience with it. With that said my most used focal length of late is 35mm and for anytime I'm not taking photos of people I like being wider so I think a 16-35 is a great walkaround lens though the only drawback for me would be the f4 because I like low-light stuff.

    Thank you! I had not considered the Samyang lens until now. I was looking at a compact prime kit for an A7III. Sony 28 f2, Sony 50 f1. 8, and Canon EF 100 f2.

      Glad it was helpful! It's awesome how many options we have now to choose from but sometimes there are too many 😅

    Thanks for the great channel. How does it compare with a Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 Di III RXD at 50mm, both at 2.8 or 3.5?

    • @ShaneBethlehem
      @ShaneBethlehem  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you for watching! Unfortunately I don't have either of these lenses on hand anymore so I can't give you a side-by-side comparison whoever I will say that I found the Tamron to perform functionally as well as the 50 across the board and I never found one to be better than the other in my use, though the Tamron did everything with better autofocus

    what version is that? I love shooting 50mm for videos, just shot a prenup with only the 50mm but for the photo side it is a bit close, me having only one lens resorted to stitching images in light room.. but for video I can manage with only the 50mm...

    I bought one used without the hood. Paid exactly $74 USD ($100CAD) and its a good lens. Its Auto focus absolutely sucks but its a decent 50mm lens and when its on my A7IV it feels like there is nothing on it.

    hey shane..im looking to buy this lens for video portraits and still portraits as im starting my photography and videography events and also about to get my first ever camera sony a7iii....cold this lens fullill my expectations { for all purpose } pls reply im very much confuse in both 50mm or tamron's 28-75 mm f2.8

    • @ShaneBethlehem
      @ShaneBethlehem  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      This lens will work for such functionality however I do suggest looking at the rokinon that I mentioned at the end of this video as the autofocus is a lot smoother and may get you a little better mileage than this 50mm

    New sub here I have a question what do you think the best all around tamron lens would be I have a Sony a 7ii thanks.

    • @ShaneBethlehem
      @ShaneBethlehem  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think the 28-75 is the best option, though Sigma just came out with a new one which is a 28-70 which is a great lens to consider as well if you want a little bit of a smaller lens

    Yup did the comparison with this and 55 and bought 55 1.8 and damn, it's so sharp..

    • @ShaneBethlehem
      @ShaneBethlehem  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah I've used the 55mm for years and just had this 50mm for a month and a bit to review. It was hard not to take the 55mm with me everywhere like I normally do, it's just nicer in every way than the 50mm [though considerably more expensive]

    canon nifty 50 was around 99$, this sony is 249$

    • @ShaneBethlehem
      @ShaneBethlehem  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Very true, the classic nifty 50's certainly were a better value, though the modern RF variant for canon is a similar price to this one now
