Hello friends!
Y'all ready for another makeover!!
Most major projects that I take on begin with a single spark of inspiration, and then everything snowballs from there. Kinda of like that childrens book if you give a mouse a cookie....he'll ask for a glass of milk. And if you give him the glass of milk he'll probably ask for a straw. And so on! When it comes to the front porch makeover that I am sharing with yall this week...the cookie of this story is this fireplace surround that I am currently building...and next there came a massive floor painting project...and the finished project is a chef's kiss and a nod to a french provincial courtyard that is just to die for. I truly hope that y'all will stick around to watch the process as well as the final reveal.

Now I know what I’m gonna do with a similar empty wall on my back patio! Brilliant idea! My husband is a seasoned carpenter. He’s already built our interior mantels AND swings. Our current house lacks a swing 🫤 Not for long…LOL. Such a gorgeous porch. So cozy. Thanks for sharing your work and ideas 😊

Love, love, love the porch and so enjoy your posts. And… I so understand your comment about the humidity. We live in a historic home in Palestine Texas and have been doing a makeover on our back yard including a vegetable garden, two new flower beds and over seeding our lawn. The humidity has been brutal. Keep the inspiration coming.

First time watcher so I want to capture my over all response as well as one directed to project. I hope you find them useful. First -- beautiful result on makeover. Love the floor especially. Glad you explain tools as you go. Now what I wish had happened -- speed up sections for things like repetitive painting and construction of mantle once the process is explained. A view of the entire porch in a single shot from off the porch -- as if I was a visitor walking up to the porch. I believe the full aspect of the romance would stand out. And I love that you mentioned the owls and that you had laundry in a chair which is the reality of being in the middle of a project!

I think you said you were taking on some big projects this year and you weren’t kidding 😆I can’t imagine doing this myself but you have definitely motivated me to try some wallpaper in my bathroom and I just scored a hutch for my kitchen that I’m thoroughly enjoying displaying my antique dishes I’m collecting☺️ Your mantel turned out great and really adds to the French flair you were going for.

I have porcelain tiles done in this same style, I love it, not many people see my vision, it’s a new build, not completed as yet, hopefully in a few months I will be able to decorate my porch. It is on an upper floor and gets a northerly wind. Living in a small Caribbean island and the rainy season will start soon. My porch will be getting the full brunt of the weather.
Ohhh that sounds absolutely amazing!! Yes! Porcelain tile is an excellent choice in those conditions as opposed to painting. Congrats on the new build!! ❤️

Hahahaha…thankfully with the wood tile floors I think I’m safe from screwing anything into them. I actually like working in the house, especially when it gets hotter outside. Having built a fireplace surround in a room that didn’t have one repainted the inside of the fireplace black which you do not want to do but you could take a piece of plywood and paint it black and it would look more like a real fireplace not having to paint the brick. Absolutely love your floor. I have done that only I Did a used brick Pattern which would not have worked for you.

I am very impressed with your varied skills! Your front porch is amazing! I also noticed a photograph of a little girl at a piano while you were painting. Is that little girl you? Are you playing the piano music we hear in your videos? If you say yes, then I will know that you can truly do everything! Lol I am from East Texas though I live in Houston, Missouri now. I went to college at Sam Houston State University and grew up on a farm between Huntsville and Livingston, Texas just off of US 190. Are you familiar with that area? Just curious.
Hi Sandra!! Yes that little girl is me! My grandpa actually took that photo and had it printed and framed when I was little. They had it hanging in their house for several years until they had to sell it. And now it hangs in mine! The piano that I’m playing is the same one that I have in our home as well I just painted it. However, sadly, that is not me playing the piano in the background. My skills on the piano were never quite that good. But I dabble a bit. Thank you so much for your sweet comment!

May I ask why you opted for exterior paint vs patio/conrete paint for the checkered floor. Thank you !
Honestly, I don’t know. I did want to use the same paint for the black squares, mantle and swing…so I went with a good exterior paint for all of that to save money. The sealer that I used is specifically for concrete, though. I did two coats of it over the span of several hours. We ended up having rain that weekend and everything held up really well.
