I love Folio Society editions! Good for you! : ) I'll be participating in Victober on my BookTube channel, Katie. I'm a slow reader but very excited to participate!! 😊
Oh my! I'm so jealous! I've never seen anything like Folio editions in any second-hand bookstore I've ever wandered through. The only thing I ever find is musty, dog-eared, tattered paperbacks, usually of whatever happened to be the rage of the day: King, Koontz, Patterson, and Forgotten Realms serials. Classics are without fail aged, often with a broken spine. Those editions are beautiful. I'm happy they found a loving home in you.
Aaahyes, the wonderful Folio Society editions of the Trollopes! I randomly found a haul of them in a second hand store in Berlin of all places, which coincidentally also included Way and Belton. The Trollope Society still keeps all of them in print, more or less, including his travelogues. Had joined them for a while to get hold of the ones I was interested in the most. Some of them even have the original illustrations from the 1800s, which is really neat. You can't even find them in the Penguins for some reason.
What an incredible haul! 😍 I keep hearing about The Belton Estate and now I’m feeling like this Victober I may have to read it! My best second-hand book find was the complete box set of Penguin clothbound Jane Austen novels and juvenilia, almost brand new, for 9 dollars at a charity shop. I almost lost my mind 😂
I love Folio Society! I bought all the FS Trollopes for way too less (3-5€ each!)!!! I love them so much! I also have their Dickens (green spine), Wilkie Collins (set of 4), George Eliot (set of 7), Thomas Hardy (all the novels+ Wessex tales), Brontë (set of 7), E M Forster (complete set of novels), and many others. They all came from a second hand bookshop, and clearly belonged to the same person (certain markings). I think about that person whenever i pick up one of these books. I hope they would have been happy to know that their beloved books are now with domeone who loves and cherishes them too...
I have the same edition of the Small House at Allington! I have seven other Trollope novels in the later Folio editions produced between 1989 and 1997. I found all of them in various charity/thrift shops here in Brisbane Australia. The most I paid was around $AUD15 ( 7.50 UK pounds). I also have a copy of The Trumpet Major by Thomas Hardy in a Folio edition. FYI you can still buy many of the Trollope Folio editions from the Trollope Society ( 20-40 pounds each) if you are a member.
Nice haul, Kate: They do do good work, irrespective of their attitude. But, enough of that. I've been waiting for you to post to tell you I finished Northanger Abbey (225 pages) for Shorty September. I can't say I'll be able to do another this month but fingers are crossed in hope. As for the novel itself, beside the funny moments like where JA parodies romance novels there are some weaknesses. However, the quality impressed me most was the creation of such an incredibly innocent and naive child within the context of The Marriage Plot. By the time the denouement became visible I was hoping she would walk away from her suitors.
Pleased for you, Katie. Always a thrill when you stumble over exactly what you didn't know you were looking for, like the time I emerged from a secondhand bookshop with a carrier bag full of Wyndham Lewis hardbacks, mostly long out of print. The seller seemed pretty chuffed that she'd finally managed to get rid of them, so everybody happy.
Gorgeous gorgeous gorgeous. I'd love to have more folio society books. The only one I have is the Alice's Adventures in Wonderland set. I stumbled across it in a second hand book store in Aberystwyth for only £10
Very cool, these editions are actually pretty similar to the Barnes & Noble Collectible Editions, which are my favourite editions ever (their Alice in Wonderland is just gorgeous). They also have these gilded edges which looks very nice and expensive xd
Those are all gorgeous! You’ve inspired me to try to find some second hand bookshops here in NI. Have you read Gissing’s The Unclassed? I’ve downloaded it to Kindle and am really enjoying it!
Many thanks for sharing with us this extraordinary find! There is nothing lovelier than browsing through used bookshops and chancing upon special treasure. I’ve been watching the 1976 adaptation of Our Mutual Friend th-cam.com/video/n055zZjoFRg/w-d-xo.html and it’s wonderful to see it again! I’m so happy you found that special edition of it, and the other fabulous titles you picked up-what a treat to own these exceptional books.

I’m lucky enough to have inherited my mom’s Folio Trollope books (the 90s era set). ❤
Very nice editions ..thanks for sharing... Big fan of your channel , I've learnt so much ...continue greatness
Thanks very much!

Beautiful books Katie! I also love a beautiful classic. I collect the really old ones.
I loved those editions. You were very luck to find your favorite from the Barsetshire Chronicles. I’m relly excited for you.

Beautiful books Katie! My nephew just bought me an old Great Expectations Folio Society edition. Thank you!
'The Secrets of Hartwood Hall' is in the Audible sale.
I’m lucky enough to have an Oxfam bookshop near me which often has folio editions of the classics. I’m a regular customer!
Those are so beautiful !! I have never come across anything like that! Probably because I live in the US ?? WOW how fabulous !
Great finds! And at a great price. My best find was a book that mentioned my great grandfather.
Those are lucky finds! Love the one with the map.
What a find! (all of them) Congratulations! And thank you for sharing
I love the enthusiasm. Great finds! I recently found a hard covered Treasure Island that I really like.

Love these editions. I have “The Three Clerks” by Anthony Trollope. It’s dark blue ❤
The Three Clerks is so great :)

Such gorgeous editions! Being in the US, I have not come across these editions. But I know what I'm doing when I visit the UK someday. 😅
Last year I found here in Mexico the Oxford’s hardcover editions of the complete Barsetshire novels from 1989 for like 20 pounds.
Ooooooh! Those are BEAUTIFUL!

I have indeed. I really liked The Unclassed!
I absolutely love Folio Society books. Those are some great finds, what were the prices like? If you don't mind me asking.
Lucky lady!

Ah, I must watch the 1970s Our Mutual Friend sometime. I love the 1990s one.
I must find the 1990's adaptation; I hope it's available on YT. Such a wonderful book! @@katiejlumsden
