      @MrBilld75 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@klj2382 I prefer Slime or others like that, that do not "inflate and seal" at the same time in a pressurized can. Cause here's the thing, that "Fix -A-Flat" stuff explodes tires in hot weather on the highway. I literally had that happen. Disintegrated the tire, it shredded and flew off the car at 120km an hour on a highway, as I pulled out to pass someone. I got over to the shoulder safely, but the entire outer side wall and most of the tread, was gone.
      Then my ex-girlfriend's brother, who was a Mechanic, said "don't ever use any "inflate and seal" canned stuff like that, it's explosive when the tire gets hot and it does exactly what you experienced. Use this stuff, it doesn't use flammable gasses. It's a bit more work, but just carry a 12V little compressor in your trunk with a bottle of this stuff, which has a valve remover in the cap. Remove the valve, squirt this in, replace the valve and inflate. Very safe stuff." And I've used it ever since.
      And he's right, if you look at aerosol cans of "Fix-A-Flat" it literally has the flammable symbols on it. Never again will I ever use that stuff, that was scary.

    Cool feature of EVs like Teslas, for those not familiar: In addition to a physical brake system like any other car, they also have regenerative braking (reversing the motors to apply braking resistance; essentially turning the motors into temporary generators) which can bring cars to a complete stop. It's not as powerful as physical brakes, but I rarely find myself using my brake pedal (hence the term one-pedal driving).

    I once worked at a car wash (2005ish), an elderly man came in for a hand-wash in his Tercel Wagon 4WD (manual transmission). Tan with tan cloth. Every bit of chrome shining. Headliner was pristine, not a spot of rust on it. He bought it brand-new, and it only had 86k on it, never been in an accident, still on the original clutch, alternator, starter. He swore he would never sell it, no matter how many times I asked. And I BEGGED. He's probably still driving it today.

      actually after a second look it does appear they have the battery cable connected to the output terminal so when the car is off the rotor will stay energized and drain the battery. still i would not expect a fire to occur, its just 12-16 volts.

    In a Tesla it's possible to drive without really using the brakes, the regenerative braking system is usually enough for calm driving conditions. I wonder if that has something to do with it.
    I've also heard about known issues with caliper pins seizing up because of this, which is something that should be checked on during routine maintenance. (And also heard stories of brake rotors warping, which is probably unrelated).
    The issue with routine maintenance is that Tesla's don't need a lot of maintenance, and for some reason you don't get notified either, the app won't even show me when the next service is due.
    Im not a mechanic so i really don't know, just throwing some ideas out there.

      Exactly my thought. I've seen plenty EV's with badly corroded brake discs as they most likely aren't used much if at all.
      This is something that needs further investigation because if they fail once they are actually needed it's a hazard all on its own.
      They need to make those brake discs out of something that doesn't corrode, seeing as how they won't be used much.

    • @-Jethro-
      @-Jethro- ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I have a Leaf EV and can confirm that the brakes barely get used - especially the rears. The parking brake is the “drum inside a disc” type and because it rains a lot here and the drum never gets hot (so it stays wet), the parking brake drum gets filled with rusty gunk. About once per year the shoes will get stuck to the drum and it’s a fight to get the car to move. I try to keep it cleaned out by using the parking brake to make a few gentle stops in my neighborhood now and then.

      Much expensive is one of those sound systems? One of my buddies from church, he has a real problem with putting down the bottle. He bought a car, put some sort of system in it, the wiring was thicker than a garden hose. I have a 5.9 Cummins, and the wiring to his amp was WAY bigger than my starter wire. Last year, he pulled up to a gas station with the music so loud, it was vibrating the glass countertop inside the station. After a while, clerk looks out the window, music still going, but driver never got out of the car. She checks, and he's still sitting in the driver seat, out cold. Not knowing if he was dead or alive, or having a medical emergency, she calls emergency services. Music was so loud, that even inside the lobby with the doors closed, the clerk couldn't communicate with dispatch, she had to go to the back, to the restroom and close the door in order to communicate. Police smashed the glass, found him drunk. He went to jail, 3rd offense, he was gone for a while. He wanted me or one of his family members to get the car out of the pound. None of us did, and the car got auctioned off. I didn't go to the auction, but I'm guessing the car went for cheap, it was practically worthless, but there was a nice shiny (and deafening) surprise waiting in the trunk for whoever got the car. He got out a few months ago, no car, no sound system. Got another car from someone in another town about 60 miles away. Before he could make 60 miles to get back home, he got pulled over again, drunk driving again, 4th offense.
