Michael, Welcome to the land of Trower. I'm 62 years old and a guitar player. I'm self-taught and first picked up the guitar and started teaching myself from cheat books and 45 records when I was around 8 years old. my first live performance was 1966/67 in front of my class in 4th grade with two other friends. I've played in cover bands all my life. Still do. I've covered Trower on and off over the years since the mid-'70s when I first heard him myself. I learned his "Day of the Eagle" classic hit from a 33rpm album (Live from Winterland} around 1974/75. Watching and learning from guitarist is just part of my DNA. I love watching you and learning, watching you unpack "Too Rolling Stone" from Trower on video was a treat for me, Trower in the wild no less, (Live), this has truly made my day. your expressions in this video at times are priceless. You kind of started with a mild approach towards the whole "Trower" thing at the beginning, and I giggled at that. and as you listened and dissected not only the song but his body movements, the Wha Wha approach, then Robin hits what I call his Jazz "Drop dead chords", modulates up a half step, then the typical shifting of gears into "Trower mode" I call it, and drops the tempo of the song to a slow blues groove that he's typically and noted for. such phrasings are his signature style, the look on your face and reaction was better than that first cup of coffee I was drinking for this morning. I said out loud with a big belly laugh, "Welcome to the land of Trower teacher". my wife wanted to know who the heck I was talking to. hahha. I say all this as someone who has done the same thing while learning Trower songs, only without TH-cam video's which are worth their weight in gold themselves. Starting and stopping a song on a vinyl record over and over is something you just have had to live through to get. anyway. Thank you for staying with us and continuing in sharing your passion which is also our passion. and for exploring Robin Trower. I hope you look into other great songs of his like: "Day of the Eagle" or Bridge of Sighs". any of his tunes are worthy of time.

The live Bridge of Sighs version he did in Germany on his 60th birthday slays me! It's all over youtube. He also did a killer version of Daydream, and this one as well in that same concert! The fact that he tunes down to a D makes me want to go out and get myself some bigger fatter crunchier strings for my Strat!
Michael, Robin Trower is the most animated guitarist I've ever seen in my life. Music moves through his body and comes out through his guitar. Hands down the best guitarist still out there touring.
Certainly true, as far as Blues/Rock goes...but there are many Jazz guitarists that have superior technique, etc...just a matter of what genre you like to listen to. Miles Davis--a friend of Hendrix, thought he heard in Hendrix's playing, the potential to be a great Jazz player...we will never know.
The bass player is James Dewar. Taken from us way to soon '02 RIP James. Deserves to be remembered. Just a note. James had Cadsil which caused a series of strokes.
In my humble opinion he's may be arguably the best, definitely in the top five Blues/Rock guitarist ever. His mixture of techniques, tones, rhythm and leads are insane and almost effortless! Yeah and his sound never gets old. The first RT concert I saw was in the early 70's @ The Houston Coliseum then most recently at Austin City Limits/Moody theater last year, that speaks for itself, as there was a theater full of long-time hard core Trower fans and he didn't let us down!
Trower is 75 and still touring. And still playin' smokin' guitar. One of the greats, and under appreciated. His original bass man James Dewar had such a great voice. Sadly he's gone. You have to check out several of his other tracks. Bridge of Sighs is so good. (Most people have no idea what the song is about.) And of course Day of the Eagle.

Trower baby! "Bridge of Sighs" and "Day of the Eagle" 70's versions! That's the stuff, man. He was too often written off as a Hendrix imitator. Lot's of Hendrix influence to be sure, but a style all his own. CUDOS!
About 1989 my work colleague and I were chatting about music: I said I was a HUGE Trower fan. He very passionately said he effing HATED RT. Both RT and Mark lived in an English county called Essex and I asked if RT and he were neighbours and had a cat that came and cr*pped in his garden. 'No, he's just a Hendrix copy'. After admitting he hadn't heard ANY of the music and his opinion was from the music press I lent him a cassette with the first three albums on it. 'FAN BL**DY TASTIC' was his reply when he returned it to me. Yes, influences but no NOT a copy. The same tired false accusations still around 20 odd years later when I had a chance conv with two guys on a train who were talking music. So sad.
Hendrix and Trower are related in the same way as and Freud and Jung. Good thing that in music, differences are not like the difference between being right and being wrong. So both Hendrix and Trower can coexist, and the art of both can flourish.
The same could be said about Frank Marino and SRV. Hendrix had more funk influence in his playing than Trower and SRV clearly incorporates more Texas twang. It all sounds good to me.
Unfortunately, I think that hurt his career being called a "Hendrix imitator". He was anything but. Despite all that, he did have his "moment", it should have been much longer.
Your analysis simply confirms my belief that Robin's playing is genius. He's well into his 70s now and I make sure I see him every time he comes thru on a tour

Robin Trower, a true Virtuosos. Jimmy Dewar is in a class all by himself, I want to listen to his singing voice in my last moments, ha! Bill Lordan, phenomenal drummer. The very best 3 piece band. Thank you for featuring the attention to details!
This band truly had the 'Goods' and the 'Power'....and put that out there in full display...to the delight of our souls....needless to say, I am a big believer in 'TROWER POWER'.
An interesting side-note...during the later summer of 1969, Hendrix tried out Lordan and his bass playing friend, Willie Weeks...he contacted Lordan and said he would like him to be his future drummer...Lordan told Jimi that he would not agree to that, unless his good friend Weeks would be the bass player!...so Jimi nixed that deal.

Robins a soul musician amazing... found his CD when I was 15 in a store never had heard of him and I listened to it for 3 years straight, his music takes you on a journey.. I was mesmerised by his playing as a teen.
Somewhere I kinda sorta heard that BL was in Sly and The Family Stone but I forgot about it. Wow!! No wonder he had that funky swinging style. What a perfect complement to Trower and Dewar. All 3 of them just came together at exactly the right time and place and created 1 timeless masterpiece after another.
Bill played a number of bands but he came from Minneapolis home town band Gypsy. They became the house band at the Whisky a Go Go in West Hollywood for a few years. Reg Isidor left as drummer after Bridge of Sighs. Lordan stepped in for that albums tour and road out the peak of the band popularity. For about three years Trower concerts were the rage and the loudest. In 74 I saw them from the 3rd row directly in front of Trower. From there I could see just how much he moves his mouth at he make the guitar talk for him. I saw him again at the Cabooze bar in Minneapolis a few years ago. The same year I saw Dick Dale on the same stage. Both are legends that did not know the word retire. Trower is still making music. Sadly Dale passed a short time ago.
@@MrDanthemaniam So Isadore played on Bridge of Sighs... didn't know that. Never quite knew where he fit in. Trowers run in the 70s was epic. Saw him in California on the Victims of the Fury tour... just a lad back then and ran into him at a hotel before the show and he stopped and talked for awhile. Good times... some hottie started touching my face during the show.. but she faded away into a mass of bodies . Ah yes... Yeah Robin is still going... hooked up with a couple of black dudes for the latest release... I listened to a few tracks. It didnt hit me quite right but still, its Trower. I need to listen to it again.
Also in Hannah. Third verse "slowly the hours fade away". The slow bend, vibrato and release is one of the most emotive appropriate bends of all time. It's his signature index finger bend.
Saw Trower in the late 80's in a small club in Toledo Ohio. Absolutely unbelievable show... and my ears rang for three days!!! The crazy part was, most of the audience wasn't even in school yet when he was at his peak............ But man oh man did they dig him. Such a completely totally underrated guitarist.
Back in the 70's after Hendrix died, I listened to a LOT of Trower. I felt lost, and was forever searching. There are many players I tried to fill the void with, Frank Marino & Mahogany Rush comes to mind.
Yes!...I caught Marino in the later 1970s, and was stunned with his overall sound--so much like Hendrix!..He actually played Red House that night, and brought the house down with his version of that Hendrix classic!..Yet, most people have not heard of him...I think it was that his first few albums were not very interesting...and he came along later, after the huge appreciation of guitarists was beginning to fade.
That's my favorite Trower song... and sadly, you can't find it on any of the digital jukeboxes anywhere so you can play it for other people. I've been checking out the Touch Tunes jukebox in my favorite bar for 16 years waiting for it to finally be available.
@@charliemcfarling4219 I had the same dilemma... My local jukebox didn't have a CD I really wanted included... So I bought the CD, gave it to the store owner and when the box got serviced, they added my CD. Problem solved.

I had the great fortune of seeing him in a small venue years ago in Houston. He signed my leg cast saying he had never signed a cast before . Still have the cast and tour shirt.

Robin Trower has the consistently best live tone of anyone I have ever seen and I have seen many over the past 50 years. I have a ticket for Trower to be rescheduled due to the COVID shutdowns, uggggg! Here on Long Island he has a huge following. People my age, and their kids who are blown away by him. All you heard are kids saying, “Dad you had the best music!” Last time I saw him here he had a standing ovation after the first song that truly touched him. It was a wonderful night. He is as good now as ever.

That "singing bass player" is the late great James Dewar. Sorely missed. I've seen Robin Trower live 6-7 times. He still regularly tours in the US. He's in his 70's now and still brings it. Go see him you will absolutely love him. Robin is famous for his "guitar face" he's is so into everything he plays. Lastly, Robin plays in Eb. He also famous for playing a Univibe so that "flange" is really Univibe.
I thought that was who that was. How old is this video? James passed away quite a while ago. He had such a great voice. He is most definitely sorely missed, Along with several other rock heroes from my youth. I guess nothing lasts for ever, enjoy it while you can.

Seeing Robin trower around a half dozen times in my lifetime and they were some of the best live shows I've ever seen. Also some of the loudest. He is an absolute master.
All the theory in the world doesn’t prevent you from being schooled by one of the great masters... Robin is about the most underrated rock guitarists ever.
Saw him again just before the Pandemic. His playing is still awesome, but he has more of a relaxed feel with the notes, not rushing. Michael, you need to see him if at all possible. Really a treasure. He used a cocked wah on alot of his stuff. Fulltone I believe.
Robin Trower was the guitar player for Procul Harem (whiter shade of pale) and then branched out as a solo act: 1970's and 80's was his heyday-dude is still touring and playing so well- a new album just this week
Hi Saw Robin Trower 6 different times in Austin Texas. He always played with local backup musicians ( because Austin is loaded with great musicians ). One night he played all blues , another night he played more of his well known stuff. But he always played some amazing guitar !! Got his autograph ! I'll never forget those shows !! I realized i saw one of the true greats of all time !!

Been trying to tell people for years, you can jump around double stops and play 7ths, 3rds, and 5ths to accomplish what you want... let the bass fill in the rest. Too many people want to play complex arpeggios, when it's not always needed and can free you up to play fills that expand off from those double stops.

i remember going to a party once...i was into trower for awhile before.i was thumbing thru the records. came across trower "long misty days" still in the wrapper..threw it on the turn table...the guys house i was at asked me who that was ..told him he was amazed..come to find out he got the ablum for christmas didnt know who it was never opened it.this was back in the early 80s...so even then he wasnt well known. great music will stand the test of time.
my 1st concert in 77.Couldnt hear for days.They literally shook the hampion colliseum.i thought it might collapse.seen many of the greats.he's the best.
I went to see Trower in Atlanta a few years ago. I think he was 72 at the time and he was as good as ever ! He has been a great steward of his talent. He comes out with new music about every 2 years and will tour in 2021. Oh and every inspiring guitar player that love the blues chases Trowers tone.
Hey, dude. Thanks for your videos. Chagrined by the Phish issues. For many phans it is easy to get stuck in the phish zone. Trey and the boys offer so much that, particularly for us older guys, it is hard to keep up with new music. I appreciate you highlighting other players. Anything Bill Frisell would be great. Definitely a favorite, though he is not exactly new music.
If you’re looking for some heavy guitar stuff check out “Man and Women” “Tear for Eddie” is a good guitar song. If you’re interested in some of the off the wall stuff check out “Did You See Me”, maybe Tinder Situation or something like “Frank”. I’ve been a Ween fan for many years and many shows and keep finding songs I haven’t heard, the one I’m getting into the most lately is “Making Love in the Gravy”. They do some killer cover songs also check out “All of My Love” from the live in Chicago dvd or there version of “Lets Dance” by Bowie.

I thought I was the only person who thought the best solo on Long Misty Days was on Caledonia! All of a sudden the effects are all gone and the blistering barrage of notes takes over! It never gets old; it's pure Trower at his best - thanks for mentioning it!
Robin Trower needs to be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Ex Procul Harem guitarist and left in the early 70's to go solo. Saw him in 74 with Bridge of Sighs Tour his most succesful album and 4 times after that. He came after Hendrix and filled the gap for that time. The best Strat player I have ever seen. James Dewar was one of the top vocalists of the time. Listen to Bridge of Sighs Album it will blow your mind!!!!!
Third video this night. As I've mentioned, I've been playing for over 50 years and Trower was a major part of the musical growth. The music of the Trower band never gets old. Timeless, no doubt. Trower was part of the musical arsenal then and still is today. God bless you brother.

Michael! We TOLD YOU that you'd love it!!! LOL!!! I remember almost 40 years ago, sitting in some dark dance hall in Southern Wisconsin on a bar stool at a tiny table, JD in hand over ice, about 12 feet away from him as he performed this song and all his other incredible works... His personna, his love of getting deep inside the music and finding the right people to surround him was nothing short of an other-worldly experience. He didn't care if he was playing to a dozen people, a hundred people or thousands. He LOVED LOVED LOVED and STILL loves his music. He's a gift to all of us. Still playing into his 70's and spot on perfect to this day... What else can be said? Amazing guitarist. Amazing experience. Amazing gift.
Loved this! I am not a musician so didn't understand most of what you said. With that beings said I have been listening to Robin Trower for 50 years. His years with James Dewar (bass/vocals) are my favorite. I was a teenager in the 70's and saw them live in concert sometime before 78. We had seats close to the sate and my head rang for days after that show! You said something about it must be loud there? OH YEA. It was mind blowing loud. And they were so tight! When I was in highschool some certain friends and I (Trower stonies) would sit in one of the guys bedrooms and get stoned out of our minds on Tai Stick and MELT into music. Everybody would pick a spot in the room and we... literally... melted... into his entire album Bridge of Sighs. Man, those were the days. 50 years later and I'm still listening to his early music. Like you said, he lets the guitar speak. He's simply brilliant and SO smooth. This was a fun reaction. Watched it twice.

Micheal,Robin changed the way I have listened to the electric guitar.Saw him in '74 and he has been my favorite ever since.This group of guys were the best power trio out there! I hope you have listened to his first 4 or five albums,as they are the best thing since sliced bread.A true master,and always said to be a Hendrix imitator,but oh no,he took off on his own and like JH took the electric guitar to new places.Listen to Frank Marino too,another great along the same lines of going to places others can only dream of.Thank you for giving Robin a go!!

Strike that last comment I saw Trower in Detroit it was before 2000 I believe it was Saint Andrews Hall not a very big place. It was about a hundred degrees that day inside Mister Trower completely ripped my head off!! he is one of the most unsung great Blues players Of our time, not to mention everything else he does. I was completely blown away. I've always loved Robin Trower but you haven't lived until you see him live. I left the concert soaking wet and loved every second of it.
If I could sing like anyone in rock history, my first choice would be Paul Rodgers. A VERY close second would be the incredibly underappreciated James Dewar.

The bass player is James Dewar. Taken from us way to soon '02 RIP James. Deserves to be remembered. Just a note. James had Cadsil which caused a series of strokes.

He had a wonderful voice. Loved his vocals on Bridge Of Sighs.
In my humble opinion he's may be arguably the best, definitely in the top five Blues/Rock guitarist ever. His mixture of techniques, tones, rhythm and leads are insane and almost effortless! Yeah and his sound never gets old. The first RT concert I saw was in the early 70's @ The Houston Coliseum then most recently at Austin City Limits/Moody theater last year, that speaks for itself, as there was a theater full of long-time hard core Trower fans and he didn't let us down!
Trower is 75 and still touring. And still playin' smokin' guitar. One of the greats, and under appreciated. His original bass man James Dewar had such a great voice. Sadly he's gone. You have to check out several of his other tracks. Bridge of Sighs is so good. (Most people have no idea what the song is about.) And of course Day of the Eagle.

Trower baby! "Bridge of Sighs" and "Day of the Eagle" 70's versions! That's the stuff, man. He was too often written off as a Hendrix imitator. Lot's of Hendrix influence to be sure, but a style all his own. CUDOS!
About 1989 my work colleague and I were chatting about music: I said I was a HUGE Trower fan. He very passionately said he effing HATED RT. Both RT and Mark lived in an English county called Essex and I asked if RT and he were neighbours and had a cat that came and cr*pped in his garden. 'No, he's just a Hendrix copy'. After admitting he hadn't heard ANY of the music and his opinion was from the music press I lent him a cassette with the first three albums on it. 'FAN BL**DY TASTIC' was his reply when he returned it to me. Yes, influences but no NOT a copy. The same tired false accusations still around 20 odd years later when I had a chance conv with two guys on a train who were talking music. So sad.
Hendrix and Trower are related in the same way as and Freud and Jung. Good thing that in music, differences are not like the difference between being right and being wrong. So both Hendrix and Trower can coexist, and the art of both can flourish.
The same could be said about Frank Marino and SRV. Hendrix had more funk influence in his playing than Trower and SRV clearly incorporates more Texas twang. It all sounds good to me.
Unfortunately, I think that hurt his career being called a "Hendrix imitator". He was anything but. Despite all that, he did have his "moment", it should have been much longer.

Robin Trower, a true Virtuosos. Jimmy Dewar is in a class all by himself, I want to listen to his singing voice in my last moments, ha! Bill Lordan, phenomenal drummer. The very best 3 piece band. Thank you for featuring the attention to details!
This band truly had the 'Goods' and the 'Power'....and put that out there in full display...to the delight of our souls....needless to say, I am a big believer in 'TROWER POWER'.
An interesting side-note...during the later summer of 1969, Hendrix tried out Lordan and his bass playing friend, Willie Weeks...he contacted Lordan and said he would like him to be his future drummer...Lordan told Jimi that he would not agree to that, unless his good friend Weeks would be the bass player!...so Jimi nixed that deal.

Robins a soul musician amazing... found his CD when I was 15 in a store never had heard of him and I listened to it for 3 years straight, his music takes you on a journey.. I was mesmerised by his playing as a teen.

Somewhere I kinda sorta heard that BL was in Sly and The Family Stone but I forgot about it. Wow!! No wonder he had that funky swinging style. What a perfect complement to Trower and Dewar. All 3 of them just came together at exactly the right time and place and created 1 timeless masterpiece after another.

Bill played a number of bands but he came from Minneapolis home town band Gypsy. They became the house band at the Whisky a Go Go in West Hollywood for a few years. Reg Isidor left as drummer after Bridge of Sighs. Lordan stepped in for that albums tour and road out the peak of the band popularity. For about three years Trower concerts were the rage and the loudest. In 74 I saw them from the 3rd row directly in front of Trower. From there I could see just how much he moves his mouth at he make the guitar talk for him. I saw him again at the Cabooze bar in Minneapolis a few years ago. The same year I saw Dick Dale on the same stage. Both are legends that did not know the word retire. Trower is still making music. Sadly Dale passed a short time ago.

Saw him in California on the Victims of the Fury tour... just a lad back then and ran into him at a hotel before the show and he stopped and talked for awhile. Good times... some hottie started touching my face during the show.. but she faded away into a mass of bodies . Ah yes... Yeah Robin is still going... hooked up with a couple of black dudes for the latest release... I listened to a few tracks. It didnt hit me quite right but still, its Trower. I need to listen to it again.
Also in Hannah. Third verse "slowly the hours fade away". The slow bend, vibrato and release is one of the most emotive appropriate bends of all time. It's his signature index finger bend.
Saw Trower in the late 80's in a small club in Toledo Ohio. Absolutely unbelievable show... and my ears rang for three days!!! The crazy part was, most of the audience wasn't even in school yet when he was at his peak............ But man oh man did they dig him. Such a completely totally underrated guitarist.
Back in the 70's after Hendrix died, I listened to a LOT of Trower. I felt lost, and was forever searching. There are many players I tried to fill the void with, Frank Marino & Mahogany Rush comes to mind.
Yes!...I caught Marino in the later 1970s, and was stunned with his overall sound--so much like Hendrix!..He actually played Red House that night, and brought the house down with his version of that Hendrix classic!..Yet, most people have not heard of him...I think it was that his first few albums were not very interesting...and he came along later, after the huge appreciation of guitarists was beginning to fade.

@@charliemcfarling4219 I had the same dilemma... My local jukebox didn't have a CD I really wanted included... So I bought the CD, gave it to the store owner and when the box got serviced, they added my CD. Problem solved.

I had the great fortune of seeing him in a small venue years ago in Houston. He signed my leg cast saying he had never signed a cast before . Still have the cast and tour shirt.

Robin Trower has the consistently best live tone of anyone I have ever seen and I have seen many over the past 50 years. I have a ticket for Trower to be rescheduled due to the COVID shutdowns, uggggg! Here on Long Island he has a huge following. People my age, and their kids who are blown away by him. All you heard are kids saying, “Dad you had the best music!” Last time I saw him here he had a standing ovation after the first song that truly touched him. It was a wonderful night. He is as good now as ever.

That "singing bass player" is the late great James Dewar. Sorely missed. I've seen Robin Trower live 6-7 times. He still regularly tours in the US. He's in his 70's now and still brings it. Go see him you will absolutely love him. Robin is famous for his "guitar face" he's is so into everything he plays. Lastly, Robin plays in Eb. He also famous for playing a Univibe so that "flange" is really Univibe.

Saw him again just before the Pandemic. His playing is still awesome, but he has more of a relaxed feel with the notes, not rushing. Michael, you need to see him if at all possible. Really a treasure. He used a cocked wah on alot of his stuff. Fulltone I believe.

Hi Saw Robin Trower 6 different times in Austin Texas. He always played with local backup musicians ( because Austin is loaded with great musicians ). One night he played all blues , another night he played more of his well known stuff. But he always played some amazing guitar !! Got his autograph ! I'll never forget those shows !! I realized i saw one of the true greats of all time !!
The vocal sound is due to the slightly cocked univibe pedal added with a dash of chorus. Robin uses the univibe like a wizard.

Been trying to tell people for years, you can jump around double stops and play 7ths, 3rds, and 5ths to accomplish what you want... let the bass fill in the rest. Too many people want to play complex arpeggios, when it's not always needed and can free you up to play fills that expand off from those double stops.

i remember going to a party once...i was into trower for awhile before.i was thumbing thru the records. came across trower "long misty days" still in the wrapper..threw it on the turn table...the guys house i was at asked me who that was ..told him he was amazed..come to find out he got the ablum for christmas didnt know who it was never opened it.this was back in the early 80s...so even then he wasnt well known. great music will stand the test of time.

I went to see Trower in Atlanta a few years ago. I think he was 72 at the time and he was as good as ever ! He has been a great steward of his talent. He comes out with new music about every 2 years and will tour in 2021. Oh and every inspiring guitar player that love the blues chases Trowers tone.
Back in the day, Trower was one of the Greatest! I saw him about three times Live and once was with Jethro Tull, and Johnny and Edgar Winter!
He still is. Saw him two years ago in Santa Cruz. He hasn't lost a bit.
Hey, dude. Thanks for your videos. Chagrined by the Phish issues. For many phans it is easy to get stuck in the phish zone. Trey and the boys offer so much that, particularly for us older guys, it is hard to keep up with new music. I appreciate you highlighting other players. Anything Bill Frisell would be great. Definitely a favorite, though he is not exactly new music.

If you’re interested in some of the off the wall stuff check out “Did You See Me”, maybe Tinder Situation or something like “Frank”. I’ve been a Ween fan for many years and many shows and keep finding songs I haven’t heard, the one I’m getting into the most lately is “Making Love in the Gravy”. They do some killer cover songs also check out “All of My Love” from the live in Chicago dvd or there version of “Lets Dance” by Bowie.

I thought I was the only person who thought the best solo on Long Misty Days was on Caledonia! All of a sudden the effects are all gone and the blistering barrage of notes takes over! It never gets old; it's pure Trower at his best - thanks for mentioning it!

Robin Trower needs to be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Ex Procul Harem guitarist and left in the early 70's to go solo. Saw him in 74 with Bridge of Sighs Tour his most succesful album and 4 times after that. He came after Hendrix and filled the gap for that time. The best Strat player I have ever seen. James Dewar was one of the top vocalists of the time. Listen to Bridge of Sighs Album it will blow your mind!!!!!
Third video this night. As I've mentioned, I've been playing for over 50 years and Trower was a major part of the musical growth. The music of the Trower band never gets old. Timeless, no doubt. Trower was part of the musical arsenal then and still is today.

I remember almost 40 years ago, sitting in some dark dance hall in Southern Wisconsin on a bar stool at a tiny table, JD in hand over ice, about 12 feet away from him as he performed this song and all his other incredible works... His personna, his love of getting deep inside the music and finding the right people to surround him was nothing short of an other-worldly experience. He didn't care if he was playing to a dozen people, a hundred people or thousands. He LOVED LOVED LOVED and STILL loves his music. He's a gift to all of us. Still playing into his 70's and spot on perfect to this day... What else can be said? Amazing guitarist. Amazing experience. Amazing gift.
Loved this! I am not a musician so didn't understand most of what you said. With that beings said I have been listening to Robin Trower for 50 years. His years with James Dewar (bass/vocals) are my favorite. I was a teenager in the 70's and saw them live in concert sometime before 78. We had seats close to the sate and my head rang for days after that show! You said something about it must be loud there? OH YEA. It was mind blowing loud. And they were so tight!
When I was in highschool some certain friends and I (Trower stonies) would sit in one of the guys bedrooms and get stoned out of our minds on Tai Stick and MELT into music. Everybody would pick a spot in the room and we... literally... melted... into his entire album Bridge of Sighs. Man, those were the days. 50 years later and I'm still listening to his early music. Like you said, he lets the guitar speak. He's simply brilliant and SO smooth. This was a fun reaction. Watched it twice.

Micheal,Robin changed the way I have listened to the electric guitar.Saw him in '74 and he has been my favorite ever since.This group of guys were the best power trio out there! I hope you have listened to his first 4 or five albums,as they are the best thing since sliced bread.A true master,and always said to be a Hendrix imitator,but oh no,he took off on his own and like JH took the electric guitar to new places.Listen to Frank Marino too,another great along the same lines of going to places others can only dream of.Thank you for giving Robin a go!!
Hey Don, hahahah I have come here, too !!!! I found this REALLY informative - I don't play and it's a track I didn't really take to but this excellent analysis has changed my view.
Strike that last comment I saw Trower in Detroit it was before 2000 I believe it was Saint Andrews Hall not a very big place. It was about a hundred degrees that day inside Mister Trower completely ripped my head off!! he is one of the most unsung great Blues players Of our time, not to mention everything else he does. I was completely blown away. I've always loved Robin Trower but you haven't lived until you see him live. I left the concert soaking wet and loved every second of it.
If I could sing like anyone in rock history, my first choice would be Paul Rodgers. A VERY close second would be the incredibly underappreciated James Dewar.
I would also put Jack Bruce in that category.
