  • My Heart Attack at 42 and How It Changed My Road Cycling and Peloton Training
At just 42 years old, I never expected to have a major heart attack. But during a bike ride with friends, I realized something wasn't right. I couldn't get my heart rate to come down. This is the story of how ignoring the warning signs and my heart attack at a young age changed my approach to road cycling and Peloton training.
    In this video, I share:
    - The early symptoms I experienced during rides but ignored
    - Details of the widow-maker heart attack I suffered
    - Getting stented in the cath lab to save my life
    - How the heart attack affected my road cycling training and intensity
    - Adjustments I've made to Peloton workouts post-heart attack
    - Lowering my heart rate for cardio exercise as a precaution
    - My cholesterol numbers before and after the heart attack
    - Medications I'm taking for heart health
    - Intermittent fasting and diet changes I've made
    - How I've been able to break PRs again on Strava
    - Tips for cyclists to prevent heart disease and catch warning signs early
Having a major cardiac event forced me to make changes to protect my heart health. But with precautions, I've been able to get back to road cycling and Peloton training safely.

So glad I found this video. I had exactly the same in April 2020 , but 3 stents fitted. Not heart muscle damage but exactly the same issue. One thing I wanted to ask, I also, maybe 12 months later had exactly the same throat issue as you, Angina symptoms, and had the same stress test that came back all clear, and the discomfort had gone away. Did you get any clarity on what that was and do you still encounter it? Glad you're fully recovered

Thank you for the kind words! It’s been about a year, since I posted that video, and I have had a little bit of that discomfort, but not much, and I think a lot less of it than I was having previously. So, in answer to your question, I never did get any more resolution on what was causing that slight discomfort in the throat area. However, I have ridden my bike, pretty hard for a few thousand miles since then, and have not had any further problems or heart problems. So, that is good news! I hope that you continue to do well! Thanks for watching!

Thank you for sharing, I am going through a very similar experience, got back after my regular ride on Sunday (17th July) had chest pain and was taken to the emergency room, STEMI - LAD same as you, stent placed and all seems OK, starting my cardiac rehab from next week. How long did it take you to get back on the bike after your stent placement? Are you on statin?

Thank you. I got back on my bike about a month after cardiac rehab. By six months after I was released by my cardiologist to go 100%. Luckily, I had no heart muscle damage. I take atorvastatin 80 mg daily.

You're welcome! I'm so sorry to hear about your heart attack! As I recall, I went for a 30 mile ride about 2 months after I had it, but I took it very easy on that ride. At about 3 months, my doctor told me that I could go 90%. At 6 months he said that I could go 100% if I didn't have any pain. It took me 1 year to 18 months before I was breaking any pre heart attach records on the bike. I was blessed not to have any heart muscle damage that they could detect. I lost 10 or 15 pounds, so I'm sure that helped me break a few of my old records as well. I wish you the best with your recovery. Thanks for watching! :-)

Marcio, I would advise you NOT to cycle again. Please. Some common sense is in order.
