Dave grades women's matches on the same scale as men's matches. These guys and several other people give women's matches a boost in ratings simply because they are attractive.

Dave is not good at articulating why things are bad. “Poor match placement. Not enough heat. Too short.” These aren’t really reasons why matches are bad - they’re worth discussing sure but he’s not elaborating what about those features really make something decent or shitty. It’s frustrating to read, waaaaay more frustrating to listen to since he’s so bad at public speaking.
Onega and Ospreay was a GREAT match, but the Callis stuff was so insultingly stupid that alone shouldve knocked it down. And on no planet was Bryan vs Okada anything more than a disappointment. 3.5 stars at best

I might give him leeway on half stars because it's essentially saying "it's not quite a 5", but at the same time you can convey that message by saying it's just 4 stars. I have a friend who'd do that sort of thing when we were talking about movies. He'd always tack on a 1/2 to a 10 star rating system, as if to insinuate he were somehow more perceptive for doing so. I made him round down to a 5 star rating system and he'd still do half stars, but then I'd round back up to 10 and I'd end up with a full number just to show him he was being self-fellating with his half stars. Decimal points on a star rating system is just sniffing your own farts more than you already are by relegating someone elses work to a star rating system when you have zero expertise in their field outside of being a long term spectator.

Dave and Bryan know what ratings they will give the matches before they see the matches depending on who is in it. If Omega or Young Bucks are involved it's automatically 7 and 3/4 stars. If Dave isn't receiving money from AEW I think he must be in love with them as I can't think of any other reason why they would lie so much.
With some of Dave's clear biases and tells, it's hard to believe he even watches shows sometimes based on his ratings. But it's one man's opinion. I've never understood the amount of stock or vitriol people invest into it.
Most of these matches would have been absolute death without the super hot crowd. Tanahashi looked awful, Kojima not much better. There was way too much standing around and letting the opponent hit you. Omega/ospreay went at least 15mins too long
Even though Steve said it in passing, Dave rates women too low across the board, Stardom is not safe. Stardom should have multiple 5 star matches this year already but they haven't been given one since 2021.

Hate to use wrestling lingo, but Billie Stark looked really green in that match. Her selling is great but theres no control and fluidity. It felt so awkward. Athena was good but was clearly focused on protecting Billie, which she should, but it meant Athena couldnt be herself.
