    Been a photographer for over 30 years. Just a hobby now, but I was hustling from gig to gig for ages. One thing I can say with 100% conviction is that you will likely NEVER obtain the perfect kit. Unless money and storage isn't an issue and you can buy literally everything, there will always be compromises in the things you do buy. In many cases, you just need to try something out to find out where it fits in.

      @@RPB-nx7vj Very true. Not only that, but your work is judged based on what you do, not what you don't do. If I post a beautiful landscape or travel photo on my website, no one ever asks me what gear I used. They appreciate the image for what it is. If they do ask, it's for academic purposes, so they can learn. It's not to criticise. I've never had someone look at my work and tell me it'd be better if I swapped my 50mm f1.8 for a f1.4. But I suppose others might have different encounters.

    I bought the Rode first and returned it immediately. I ordered the DJI and had to wait about 3+ months to come in, and I don't regret it. I haven't been recording much, but plan to use it more in my next videos.

    I love the DJI Mic, I didn't order it at first, and wasn't expecting it to be such a game changer for me. I've always considered getting the Peak Design travel tripod, but never pulled the trigger. Now I'm glad I waited. Great list, especially the gear you regretted getting. Great video, and thanks for sharing.

    Agree with you on the DJI Mic. They hit it out of the park with that one. Like that necklace mount - I see one in my future. Can't afford the GoPro Hero 11 yet as I bought the Panasonic GH5 M2 and the G100, so Hero 11 becomes a 2023 purchase. I too bought a tripod and I am extremely happy with it. It is the K&F Concept with transverse center column that rotates either vertical or horizontal, and has a detachable monopod leg. Best tripod upgrade I ever made. I am lucky that there was nothing I regretted getting.

    i like this because she's just explaining her hands on perspective. i personally use RODE wireless Go 2 Mic and they are great and very useful. i can use mu shotgun mic using the 3.5mm connector. i havent used my GoPro session 4 i purchased many years ago, its barely been used. i dont use it because i lost alot of the attachments and i havent looked into it. so, the neck mount seems pretty nice since you can just take it off when not in use. youre not forced to have straps on your person allday! i still use my Nikon D3200 to shoot film and photos. i added a Black Pro Mist Filter by Tiffen 1\8 grade. and a ND filter for the EXTREME OUT MID DAY SUN. helps very much. i have one for my gopro also. i also had a crappy tripod and realized quickly, the wind can actually move your tripod around if its not heavy duty. so i appreciate your video! thank you! cery real, honest, and hands on vs. those who just talk about products.

    This was a great video! The one consistent thing over time is that Peak Design is way too pricey for what you get in almost everything they sell. About to buy the DJI Mic so I was nervous that it was on your table the whole video, but glad you were happy with it at the end

      Agree, I've found an alternative for every one of their products. Their backpacks can't even accommodate a professional size tripod.

    • @Dave_Outside
      @Dave_Outside 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Expensive yes but they offer a lifetime warranty, even on used products. Whereas Ulanzi only has a 1 year warranty and I've read of people having issues with the ball head after some time of usage. So the thing to do is find a good deal on a PD tripod on eBay, Mercari etc. I found one at a good price on REI's website used gear section.

  • @sherwinm
    @sherwinm ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I agree with the DJI mic. It’s pricey but I think built well. I was able to get a small discount as open box on Amazon. Been happy with it. I recently picked up the ZV-E10 trying to replace my a6500. I’m trying to find a sale on the A7 IV and return the ZV-E10. It’s an on camera but I don’t think there’s much of a difference from the a6500. Only advantage is the flip out screen and no record limit. I want to get a full frame hybrid camera for my TH-cam channel.
    Thanks for the video

    I returned to Iceland 2 months ago and a great purchase I made for that trip in a Sea Sucker 4.5" SeaSucker w/LP Housing , which is a suction cup mount, very strong, that I used to mount my GoPro to the outside of my car windshield to make TimeWarp videos. The quality is a LOT better with the GoPro outside so the windshield reflections didn't detract from the image. Around $50. You need a short Magic Arm or something similar to mount whatever you use.

    This year, I bought the very tiny, light Samyang/Rokinon 24mm and 45mm sister lenses for the Sony Emount. The 45mm is a really good lens, but I have so much fun shooting with the 24mm f/2.8 in both video and stills! Sharp, quiet and faste focusing. And not hard on the wallet.

  • @larrygray1557
    @larrygray1557 ปีที่แล้ว

    Love the video as I am in process of upgrading backpack and laptop. Main driver for the upgrade is the recent purchase of the Sony 200-600. While leaning toward the Tenba Axis 24L over Peak Design Everyday 30L, what caught my attention was your concern about stepping up to a 16" from a 15". I currently have the 15" MacBook Pro (2013) definitely due an upgrade. While a 14" and stepping down to the 20L bag size is a consideration, an unexpected surprise is the the external dimensions of the 16" MBP is virtually identical to my 15" MBP. You may want to measure your 15" and take the tape measure to the store and measure the 16" display model. The measurement difference seems to be in the diagonal measure of the screen as the 15" has a black benzel on the 4 edges where the 16" spans edge to edge without the benzel.

    I use the GoPro Mini 11 on my headband, helmet and Kayak as a secondary camera and any place where a secondary camera that doesn't need an LCD shines. I picked it up for $199.99 (on sale), and it's my sacrificial GoPro. I attach it to the outside of the car, and I won't be shut too upset if it gets wrecked. It compliments my GoPro Hero10. I use them as a team.

    I bought a GoPro many years ago and I was not super blown away. But I still have it. I bought some Nady wireless mics and promptly forgot to pack them when I moved. I got them back years later and the receiver was coated with some kind of sticky crud. I spent a few hours cleaning it with lighter fluid and trying to figure out how safe it was to plug in a cable. Then I managed to snap off an antenna. So I tossed the whole thing in the trash. I've spent much larger sums on equipment I never used. I guess that's the nature of photography.

    Was a little worried as I just bought the Mindshift bag based on your previous review, but I’m ok with the 13 size. I’m not a professional and really never take my laptop with me. Also, I really wanted a bag that was just big enough for full frame mirrorless with maybe 2-3 lenses. I also want a bag that meets personal item bag requirements to minimize any chance of having to check my bag, ever. Even the 13L is actually larger than AA’s personal item size so definitely don’t want to go larger.

    I actually prefer Sennheiser over the Rode. They are closer to industry standard, but I'm also more in the cinema side myself. Still, DJI and Rode are decent when it comes to run and gun audio. When it comes to things like weddings, I just use an H6, but it isn't mounted on my camera. I've found ways to work smarter rather than harder. I also love that the Sony a7iv has S-log3, so I can make it more cinematic if I want to. For others, it is easier just to use default settings and call it a day; for me, it depends on what the situation calls for. Are you doing a sizzle reel or vlogging? Sometimes gear has limitations and you have to know if those limitations coincide with your intended use/ purpose.

    I’m probably lucky I don’t have too much in my kit that I would ever return because I really do my research and I tend to wait for a little while after gear has been released before I upgrade to anything that said I’m still rocking the Nikon D850 as my main work course so I probably haven’t had that experience buying a new camera but I do own a GoPro 10 and I’m super happy with it. 100% correct on the tripod I also own the new ULanzi tripod. I’m about to buy another smaller camera for Saint Street Photography so I’m going through the process now of looking at what Nikon has to offer and also what Fuji film has to offer and even though I am generally a line to Nikon I am super impressed with the Fuji film so it is a bit of a waiting out process to work out which one I want but thanks for the video as some of the stuff in here I can see how it was a good idea but it just doesn’t Work

    I'm with you on the Ulanzi tripod, it's the only tripod I didn't regret bringing on a trip even I may or may not use it.
    For the times I used it I was happy I had it and with me. I've bundled mine with the separate quick release clip (mine is the original version before Ulanzi created the quick release version, and I'd probably buy it this way to remain arca-Swiss compatible).
    It gets tall enough, I'm 6'2" and I have it right on eye level when needed, but the biggest thing is the lightweight, it is literally half of the weight of my pretty compact aluminum travel tripod (which got replaced) and the carrying bag happens to match with my Think-tank Urban 15 backpack, keeps it nice, dry, and dust free.
    Thanks for the video 😎👍

      Good question...besides the tripod, I think the DJI Mic and the PhotoCross backpack that I mention in this video are better (in some ways) than their competitors. Can't think of any other big ones at the moment.

    • @williamaungleyraud
      @williamaungleyraud ปีที่แล้ว

      In the world of camera backpacks there is a lot of competition and similar bags. The Peak Design every day backpack is probably one of the most copied/improved backpacks by the competition, the thing with backpacks is that there isn't a perfect one for everyone, you need to try them for yourself.
      Although I'm not a Ulanzi fan boy I happen to be using their gear for quite some time, and as any other brand they are hit or miss, but lately they have been getting many gear right. (although they are coming up with yet another quick release system, so let's hope it isn't just another minor thing).
      As always most things are subjective to personal preference, competition is always great and continue to improve user experience.

    • @williamaungleyraud
      @williamaungleyraud ปีที่แล้ว

      @@takoflame4948 well indeed, but again with competition comes options, some people will highly rely on warranties, others may exchange it for better prices. Is the DJI wireless mic compatible with iPhone 14 Pro and/or Hero 11, Suzy?

  • @Justin.HeterodonHome
    @Justin.HeterodonHome ปีที่แล้ว

    The DJI Mic would be in my largest purchase regrets list of 2022 sadly.
    I really wanted to like it but it came with so many defects that I had to return it and I don't believe I'll buy one again after hearing from other people who have had similar experiences and limitations to my own.
    My single biggest issue with it was the feedback hiss that was constant in all audio conditions thanks to the poor shielding on the receiver. I tried different cables, mounting it further away from the camera that it was connected to, different sides of the camera, extremely expensive audiophile cables with much more shielding and nothing that I could buy or change would work. The only thing that "fixed" it was to make a little aluminum cap that I would put in the front of the unit which would reduce the feedback by about 90% but looked super unprofessional.
    The list of Lavalier mics it supports is extremely short. It did not work with my Countryman B3 ($200+ lav mic) but would work with a cheapo $40 lav mic... Rode doesn't have this problem.
    If line of sight was lost with the subject then all audio would cut out full stop. This could be something as simple as someone walking between the receiver and the subject. Once again, Rode doesn't have this problem.
    The provided audio cable would frequently pop out of the receiver's audio jack with very little effort. Just brushing against it by accident was often enough to dislodge it and cause audio to be lost.
    For some reason it had no ability to record in L/R or R/L mode because the Left audio channel wasn't working, a fact that I only discovered 5 days before my return period would have been up.
    Adding insult to injury was when M2 (Mic #2) straight up died the day before I was packing it up to return.
    According to many, quality control of the DJI Mic is extremely low and after how long it took to receive my refund (28 days after they received my return) I will not be buying another.
    A real shame because I loved the magnetic clip, the backup recording feature was fantastic (although I didn't run into this issue, others have reported a sync issue when using the backup recording), and best of all I didn't need special software to get the stupid audio files off of the mics unlike with Rode.

    I've had and used the PD CF tripod for 3 years (I was an original backer)... it is great for what it is, a travel tripod that packs very small. I really like it for that duty. It will never replace my full size Gitzo CF.
    Having said that, I backed and should be getting the new HEIPI that I consider to be V2 of the PD. It has much improved design features/functionality, but does come at a slight cost of increased size/weight (but not very much). If it performs even better as a travel tripod than my PD, I'll be selling the PD. Xmas for me comes in January hopefully.

    • @os6219
      @os6219 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hope the Heipi will be good, as it looks really cheap on the pictures. Nothing to compare with PD. I shoot my GFX100S on the PD CF. It’s a really sturdy beast if you know how to use it. As good as most 2 size bigger tripods, and I got a few including Gitzo.

    • @csimet
      @csimet ปีที่แล้ว

      @@os6219 I've been going through all the pre-production reviews and it looks to be very well made and should be sturdier than my PD. My only issue with the PD after much use... the final leg sections are too thin/small and flimsy to rely on, so I rarely deploy them, so it makes the height too low under normal use. It is still an excellent travel tripod otherwise.

    My Wireless Go II system died after about 8 months of very light use (maybe used it 10 times for a few hours each time?), thankfully under warranty, but really shook my confidence in the system, suddenly one of the transmitters internal mic stopped working (and I only used it exclusively with the internal mic), also the receiver would pair both transmitters on the same channel, really weird stuff, Rode said they can't fix it and replaced it with a brand new box - can't fault the warranty, but still.
