    Bee balm tea is one of my favorites. Sometimes I will mix it with calendula and yarrow when I am not feeling well.

    Thank you for this great video... I have large areas of red bee balm around my house and some purple and pink... I like bee balm because it's the only bright colored annual flower that grows in the shade... I plant bell pepper plants in the gaps between my bee balm and the deer leave them alone... Haha!! I finally fooled the deer!!

    Thank you so much. I've been battling with a yeast infection. I also just purchased a red beebalm plant today! It's not in the ground yet & I don't want to sneek some leaves from it till it gets in the ground & gets a good start. But will definitely be trying your suggestion. God bless🌈🙏🌈.

    Thank you for the wonderful video! I started a front yard food forest last spring and am intent on filling it in with medicinal herbs. I have Bergamot started and waiting for our spring to get it outside. You gave a very clear description of it's uses, which I appreciate. I am looking forward to this herb soo much! I have 3 women in my life that are all at differing stages of life. Sometime heavy menstruation, sometime almost non-existent and 1 going thru menopause. What are 3 other herbs you would recommend for this situation? Thanks for your video, I appreciate your time and effort! Ryan

    • @PrepperPotpourri

      I am not a herbal expert. I do know that bone broth is good for per-menopausal women (good for everyone in fact). I do pick leaves from my raspberry bushes each year and dry them. The tea from these leaves is supposed to help with heavy bleeding and irregular menstrual cycles.

    I absolutely Loved your video!! It was very informative and inspiring. I did not previously know about the medicinal qualities of the Beebalm or Menarda plant, so now I'm definitely going to try to find one of these plants at the nursery. May I ask what area you live in, as I'm wondering if it will survive the cold winters of Eastern Ontario? Thank you so much for sharing!

      +cobbytowngirl I'm glad you enjoyed the video. I hope to do more such videos this summer. I live in Western Michigan, gardening zone 5B. It is a very hardy plant.

      I live in northern Illinois and they grow everywhere here and Minnesota, so I'm sure they'll grow fine where you live. I made a honey infusion using the flower and leafs fresh and then found out I should use dried for honey infusions and oil infusions. Thankfully there's such a high amount of anti everything in these just like oregano and it turned out great, but I store the honey in the fridge.

    I cannot hear the words "bee balm" or "Monarda" without hearing the rhyme i learned as a kid:
    Monarda, or Oswego tea, first gladdened Indian & bee. Then came the English, French & Dutch---I wonder if they liked it much?
    But they paid no tax to King, or crown, so our forebearers gulped it down.
    To their patriotic zeal I bow, but delighted we don't drink it now.

    I wouldn't use leaves that have powdery mildew spots.
    Cucurbitacea (cucumbers, melons, Squash) all seem very susceptible. I spray mine with Serenade, which is organic. I follow that in 10-14 days with pure Neem oil mixed in water with mild liquid soap as the emulsifier, and repeat every 2-3 weeks.

    I've made a tea out of Monarda flowerheads (slightly past their full bloom). Small portions of the stems and leaves also made it into the tea. It tastes good to me.
    Does it really matter I didn't use leaves only, and that I didn't collect the herb in the spring?????

    • @PrepperPotpourri
      @PrepperPotpourri  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      No. I collect my leaves in the summer. I love the slightly hot spicy taste of the tea.

    • @ksionc100
      @ksionc100 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for the answer. I'm only starting to experiment with monarda as an edible plant. To be honest, don't feel the hotness but that's probabl;y because I've had too many habanero peppers in my life.

    Thank-you for your information on bed balm. I knew some but didn’t know it was edible. Can it still be edible if the plants are sprinkled with our small creek water?
    I’ve also noticed just by touching the plants how strong the Oder is on my hands. I truly love this plant in the red color, and I’ve seen many hummingbirds the more plants I have. I like the fact about the deer doesn’t like them bc I have deer and I’ll be planting this where they come, more deer has come out since Covid.

      Monarda is perennial so it likes to put down deep taproots. I've seen them in pots but they probably wont live up to their full potential until they are in a permanent home on the ground.

    hi, one of the bee balms I planted I noticed the leaves look yellowish. this is not happening with the others I planted. is a case of overwatering, maybe?

    • @PrepperPotpourri
      @PrepperPotpourri  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It is hard to say. It can be because of too much water or a nitrogen deficiency. You could try mixing in blood meal at the base of the plant,

    • @vistaprime
      @vistaprime 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      blood meal?

      okay thanks. BTW, I noticed my Jacob Cline didn't blossom well despite growing strongly. the blooms are mostly flowers opening with no very little or no red blossoms. However my scarlet bee balms blossomed vigorously. Is this common. Are the Jacob Cline perhaps not mature enough to produce robust vibrant flowers?
