My great aunts crocheted doilies that were starched really stiff so the ruffled edges stood at attention just like these ruffs. They'd be sitting on the end tables in their sitting rooms, and often held lead crystal candy dishes filled with homemade rum balls. I still have several, though I don't take them out much. Another fyi in case anyone is interested, don't ever store anything starched but wash it first -- starch is made from potato or corn, so it's essentially sugar and attracts insects. Only starch your shirts or linens when you're ready to use them! 🙂
Fashion related that I would like to see: Shoes! I know that they had men’s shoes with long points that tied to their legs during the medieval period. The Renaissance period had some crazy platform shoes that kept dresses out of the muck, and then there are weird Asian period shoes and of course, feet binding. Take your pick, plenty of weirdness.
As a student in Fashion Design, and taking a course in Fashion History, I always find these videos are a perfect build to go off of what we learned in class, and expand that lesson in more detail ♥

After being on the computer for a few minutes, I need the cervical collar to take some of the pressure off of my neck. It is a big help! It's not nearly as stylish as an Elizabethan ruff, though. The way sagging is today. Worse fashion ever, especially the modern version which the top part sags while the leg parts are tight. *scratches head* I don't get it. In the 1990s, the pants were big all around, but this modern look of baggy at the waist and tight on the legs is stupid and not attractive at all. It also lost its meaning which came from the prison system providing pants that were too big on most inmates, so became a sign of poverty and even protest against unjust prison system. 🤷♀️Also, another terrible trend is skinny jeans for men.
We always look back at different era's fashions & have a laugh & think what were they thinking, like the 70's & 80's. 80's music is my fav era but the fashion was terrible. Looking back at photos of me as a teenager in the 90's & the fashion is quite hilarious too, but at the time we think it's fashionable & great.

The way sagging is today. Worse fashion ever, especially the modern version which the top part sags while the leg parts are tight. *scratches head* I don't get it. In the 1990s, the pants were big all around, but this modern look of baggy at the waist and tight on the legs is stupid and not attractive at all. It also lost its meaning which came from the prison system providing pants that were too big on most inmates, so became a sign of poverty and even protest against unjust prison system. 🤷♀️Also, another terrible trend is skinny jeans for men.

We always look back at different era's fashions & have a laugh & think what were they thinking, like the 70's & 80's. 80's music is my fav era but the fashion was terrible. Looking back at photos of me as a teenager in the 90's & the fashion is quite hilarious too, but at the time we think it's fashionable & great.
