I love seeing how everyone rates their favorite Agatha Christie novels. Though Poirot is my favorite, I do love Ms. Marple. I think my favorites are 4:50 From Paddington, A Caribbean Mystery, and Sleeping Murder. Very enjoyable video.😊
Yes, Happy Birthday to Dame Christie! 👏🏻 📚 I re-read At Bertram's Hotel just last month and it moved way up on my _list!_ The first time I read it, I was fairly new to Miss Marple and just like you said, it didn't have enough of her in it; but with my re-read, I was able to focus more on the storyline and the characters, as opposed to wondering when Miss Marple would show up! 🤓 I love A Murder is Announced, 4:50 to Paddington and Murder at the Vicarage (my first Marple). Well, I love them all, but those are probably my top 3, at least at the moment - ha! 😬 My favorite overall is And Then There Were None - just brilliant! I adore Joan Hickson as Miss Marple and I also have the DVD set and I can't wait for you to "meet" Dolly Bantry and see The Body in the Library (and all the others) come to life! I know I mentioned Margaret Rutherford the other day, and while she might not be my favorite Marple, she gives a different slant to the character - just delightful! ❤
Awww, happy birthday to Dame Agatha Christie❤️ I love her books and Miss Marple is probably my favorite. I’ve read some of these so long ago, I need to do a reread of them. Maybe a 2024 project😊
I've never read a Miss Marple, but now I'm interested in At Bertram's Hotel! I noticed there is a BBC adaptation as well. Thank you for the suggestion, Mitzi! 💕
I love Agatha Christie. I remember reading all her books as a teenager. It was in the 80s BBC put out Joan Hickson playing the part of Miss Marple. There are many who played the part. Joan Hickson is the one that stole my heart. Isle of Hercule Poirot. And again the BBC series with David suchet was my ultimate favorite. Again many great actors played the part. And I also enjoyed Agatha Christie's biography. About a month ago I re-watched the body in the library. Definitely inspired me watching it senior video makes me want to re-read all the books again. Thank you so much I hope you enjoy your books and Miss Marple series!❤😊
Oooh, congrats on finishing the Miss Marple mysteries. I just started Miss Marple: The Complete Short Stories which I’ve had on my bookshelf since 1993. I’m finally getting around to reading it and reading Miss Marple for the first time. I recently finished The Murder of Roger Ackroyd, and it was awesome. For me, it’s right up there with And Then There Were None which is one of my favorites.
@@mitzireadsandwrites Yeah! 🤣 I used to write my name in my books along with the date I got them. Depending on the season of my life, I didn’t always have a lot of time to read, so some of my books have been on my shelves for a really long time. 🥴 I really should NOT buy another book until I read all of the unread books I already have on my shelves. I’m not sure I have the willpower. 🤣
The 4:50 From Paddington is my favorite Miss Marple. I think the next one would be Bertrand’s Hotel. I’m not finished reading them all yet. I need to try T and T again. I tried but found their dialogue silly. I can only take Hercule in small doses. And Then There Were None is my absolute favorite of Agatha’s.
Hi Mitzi! I love this video! A Sleeping Murder is my favorite so far...in fact I am reading it now. I have been watching the TV series with Geraldine McEwan and Julia McKenzie too...I love them! Have a lovely weekend!
They are a tv series version - I love them because each one features different actors that I love. Great casting! By the way...I found Nancy Drew's The Hidden Staircase at a local used book store...so I'm all set to join the next buddy read!@@mitzireadsandwrites
Have you read “Crooked House” yet? One of the best standalone’s. You would like “Evil Under the Sun”, it’s another vacation mystery. “Cards on the Table” is a favorite. “There is a Tide”/“Taken by the Flood” is a lesser known favorite of mine, but Poirot doesn’t come into the book until about the halfway point.
Hi Mitzi, I haven’t read as many as you, but I especially enjoyed The Murder at the Vicarage, BECAUSE it was told by the Vicar. And then one of the new Miss Marple short stories (written by other people) had a follow up story about that family, which I really liked. But I haven’t read all those modern short stories yet, I just had it out of the library. Thank you and I want to read more of them. I really want to read Tommy and Tuppance because I saw and liked the TV adaptions about them. Pretty old now but so cute. 😊
I am listening to 4:50 from Paddington right now! I listened to Murder at the Vicerage a while back. I am finding that I enjoy listening to Agatha Christie, but I get more out of them if I actually read a physical copy. It is a completely different experience. It is like an overview of the story as a listening experience vs. trying to figure out the mystery as a physical copy reading experience, if that makes sense. Both good, in their own way, but different.
Yes, that makes sense. I think I'll listen next time I go through these since I already know what happens. That way, I can just refresh my memory and enjoy the story.
This was fun as I, too, have read all the Miss Marple during the past year! Your ranking was fun to see … but, I think you should have included the short story collection as it is part of the Marple canon and, in my opinion, it is where she really shines… she plays the “the little old lady” card so well! I love her 😍. I always enjoy your content.
Wonderful video Mitzi! I loved the detail you went into about what you loved or didn't love so much about each one. My favorite Agatha Christies are And Then There Were None, Murder on the Orient Express, Five Little Pigs, Partners in Crime, Why Didn't They Ask Evans, The Pale Horse and I always think my favorite Miss Marple is Sleeping Murder. However, lately I've had the Moving Finger on my mind a lot and I also have A Murder is Announced and Nemesis still to read for the first time so I think what I want to do is maybe start next year and read one Marple a month in publication order (though I think I'll fit Sleeping Murder in when it was written not published) and then determine which is my favorite but I can say the Marple tv version of Sleeping Murder is my absolute favorite Miss Marple adaptation :D.
@@mitzireadsandwrites same! I've seen and love all of the more recent Marple series but I actually only started watching the Joan Hickson Miss Marple last year, so excited to see all of those. Would you want to buddy watch some of them? That would be fun :D.
I looove Miss Marple, my favourite one is the Moving Finger and one of the others is Murder in the Caribbean. The description of her wearing grey lace in the heat was priceless for me. I always remembered that from my first read. Bertrams Hotel is really good as well!! I enjoyed this video a lot👍⭐
Love this! Now you do need to do one for Poirot. I haven't read enough of her to pick a favorite Miss Marple yet, but I think I'm one of those people whose favorite is the one I happen to be reading at the time, if that makes sense.
I've been reading (and rereading!) Agatha Christie since high school. I am now 61. So nice to hear it's her birthday. It was a wonderful day in history! You have a lot of fun ahead of you with the Poirots, Mitzi. I am happy for you!! I have, of course, by now read them all. My favorite Miss Marple woultd have to be A Murder is Announced.I love the characters, Mitzi as well 😀 A very clever twist too! And you are right, A Caribbean Mystery is up at the top 🎩
❤️📚❤️...I've read many Agatha Christie books, but never the Miss Marple...I have watched the DVD adaptations and enjoyed them. Interested in reading now! Thanks for the reviews and ratings!
I am working my way through Agatha Christie currently and for the most part enjoying each book (some a little more than others). I really enjoyed the Ms. Marple short story collection and want to get the Hercule Poirot short story collection at some point.
I read Murder on the Orient Express back in the 1980’s. II hadn’t: really heard a lot about AC back in those days and picked up the book from a drug sore display- the kind you can spin around! Just decided to read her some more. Started with Tommyand Tuppence-The Secret Adversary--what a kick but it was written 100 or so years ago!
I haven’t read all the Miss Marple but Murder at the Vicarage has stayed with me. I love, “The Clocks,” & “Murder on the Orient Express” as well, but as you say it can sometimes be the mood you’re in or some external factor influencing your reading. I love Poirot & even Sophie Hannah’s continuation of the series. I also absolutely loved Lucy Worsley’s bio on Christie.
I have been reading the Poirot and Marple books in publication order (more or less). So far I have only read Murder at the Vicarage of the Marple books. I just finished Peril at End House, which is a Poirot. I have also read And Then There Were None, which is fabulous. My favorite Poirot so far has been The Murder of Roger Ackroyd. I'm looking forward to reading more Miss Marple mysteries!
Hello Mitzi:) Have you read anything from Dorothy L. Sayers? She also wrote detective stories and was a devout Christian. Apparently her translation of Dante's Divine Comedy into English is one of the best. I think she was a friend of Agatha's, but I'm not sure about that. I thought the stuff I read from her was really good and original!
This couldn’t have come at a better time. TODAY I’m finishing up Sleeping Murder and then I, too, will have read all of the Miss Marple books-in publication order! I love her so, so, so much! I can’t rank them yet. I still have one to go. But I think I roughly agree with your rankings. I love the ones that are very Miss Marple heavy the most. She’s just not in enough of some of the other ones for my taste! Give me more Marple! 😊
The BBC adaptation of A Murder is Announced, with Joan Hickson, is my favorite of the twelve that they filmed, though they're all excellent. I think you will really enjoy it. Love your channel.
Joan Hickson is always better! :D I do see what you mean. Nemesis is pretty cool. I loved the interwoven stuff in it. I always confuse Nemesis with Caribbean Mystery and Caribbean isn't my favorite. Which cracks me up after this. LOL. 4:50 From Paddington is my favorite because I love Lucy Eylesbarrow (or Aylesbarrow?). And one of my top three adaptations with Hickson. Miss Marple is my FAVORITE followed by Tommy and Tuppence. Not a huge fan of Poirot. In fact, I wrote a blog post with three super short stories of how pet peeves may have influenced writers to create a scene or characters, and I made her come up with Poirot when her husband was being a twit. So fun.
I have never read a Miss Marple but plan to soon. My favorite so far is And Then There Were None. Next on my list to read is Crooked House and The Murder of Roger Ackroyd.
Here is some trivia for you, MItzi. I thought the name Mrs. McGillicuddy sounded familiar so I googled it. "Mrs. McGillicuddy (her first name is unmentioned on the series) is Lucy Ricardo's very dimwitted, scatterbrained, but still loving mother on I Love Lucy."
Mitzi, I love Miss Marple too! I love all the different women who have played her in the TV adaptations but unfortunately, they've changed the plots here and there in the newest ones. I like the characters of Tommy and Tuppence but I don't like those books as much.
Miss Marple is absolutely my favorite character of Christie’s.
The Margaret Rutherford versions of four of Agatha Christie book adaptions are so good. I think you will enjoy them!
I love seeing how everyone rates their favorite Agatha Christie novels. Though Poirot is my favorite, I do love Ms. Marple. I think my favorites are 4:50 From Paddington, A Caribbean Mystery, and Sleeping Murder. Very enjoyable video.😊
