Actually, I look like I am good, only because NYT Sudoku does not require advanced technique, and you just have to know where to look. And I make my "Walkthrough" videos after I solved it at least once, so I know where to look.
It also means I solve the same Sudoku twice, and that does help me getting used to the way they make it.

I haven't tried many famous ones, but I like LA Times Sudoku, because of their Help feature teaches you step-by-step. Their "Expert Sudoku" is similar in the level as NYT hard Sudoku. Their "Impossible Sudoku" often require a use of a xy-wing, which I consider an advanced technique, and I am not good at that level anymore.
Also, Web Sudoku Evil level is often quite challenging.
For NYT Hard level, when I get stuck, I try to look the entire board loosely until I find a practical hint I want to follow.
