The waltz also gave rise to another illusion of flight into the unknown, immersion in a charming, pure, alluring world of beauty, the illusion of liberation from the vanity and vulgarity of the environment. Was it not this illusion of unified flight, separation from the prose of reality that created the waltz’s romantic aura?
But this does not fully explain the power of the magical secret of the waltz, the magical power of the very principle of waltzing. Behind the external simplicity lies a bottomless depth.
