Heidelberg 4K - Old Town Walking Tour

Afternoon walking tour of old town Heidelberg on a cloudy winter day. This walk starts by river bank of the Neckar, Old Bridge of Heidelberg (die Alte Brücke) and continues along with the main streets, landmarks, and squares of Heidelberg. Important landmarks of Heidelberg such as Heiliggeistkirche (Church of the Holy Spirit), Hotel zum Ritter, Hauptstraße, Bismarckplatz, Universitätsplatz, Heidelberger Marktplatz, Kornmarkt, and Karlsplatz are also walked by and the tour ends with the Heidelberg Palace (Schloss Heidelberg), Heidelberg Castle Garden (Schlossgarten Heidelberg) and the panoramic view of Heidelberg.

The Karl Theodor Bridge, commonly known as the Old Bridge (Alte Brücke), is an arch bridge in Heidelberg that crosses the Neckar river. It connects the Old City with the eastern part of the Neuenheim district of the city on the opposite bank. The current bridge, made of Neckar sandstone and the ninth built on the site, was constructed in 1788 by Elector Charles Theodore, and is one of the best-known landmarks and tourist destinations in Heidelberg.

Heidelberg Castle is a ruin in Germany and landmark of Heidelberg. The castle ruins are among the most important Renaissance structures north of the Alps.
The castle has only been partially rebuilt since its demolition in the 17th and 18th centuries. It is located 80 metres (260 ft) up the northern part of the Königstuhl hillside, and thereby dominates the view of the old downtown. It is served by an intermediate station on the Heidelberger Bergbahn funicular railway that runs from Heidelberg's Kornmarkt to the summit of the Königstuhl.
The earliest castle structure was built before 1214 and later expanded into two castles circa 1294; however, in 1537, a lightning bolt destroyed the upper castle. The present structures had been expanded by 1650, before damage by later wars and fires. In 1764, another lightning bolt caused a fire which destroyed some rebuilt sections.
