What is unusual about this artist, is that his excellence won’t cause the worship of himself but rather of something much greater, the living God. That’s probably why he was underestimated. I hope when someone comes across his later works, this someone will feel that.

This combination of fingerstyle and slide is unique to Mr.Phelps, and the greatest performance in this style I have ever heard - mike drop!

Kelley Joe Phelps is a spiritual paragon! My goodness he has harnessed the most captivating path to a spiritual closeness to God that I have ever witnessed. I miss him so much. It melts my heart when I can’t discover what his heart is saying, more recently, during these distressed uncertain times. His music is a beacon for me! He answers a lot of questions..............Man, KJP, if you can see this post......please let me hear more!! I implore!

    This is awesome.
I hope you don't mind if I quote Malachi 3:7, "I am the LORD, I CHANGE NOT"
(Encouragement to Remember the Sabbath day (Exodus 20:8):
2 But who may abide the day of his coming? and who shall stand when he appeareth? for he is like a refiner's fire, and like fullers' soap:
3 And he shall sit as a refiner and purifier of silver: and he shall purify the sons of Levi, and purge them as gold and silver, that they may offer unto the Lord an offering in righteousness.
4 Then shall the offering of Judah and Jerusalem be pleasant unto the Lord, as in the days of old, and as in former years.
5 And I will come near to you to judgment; and I will be a swift witness against the sorcerers, and against the adulterers, and against false swearers, and against those that oppress the hireling in his wages, the widow, and the fatherless, and that turn aside the stranger from his right, and fear not me, saith the Lord of hosts.
6 For I am the Lord, I CHANGE NOT; therefore ye sons of Jacob are not consumed.
7 Even from the days of your fathers ye are gone away from mine ordinances, and have not kept them. Return unto me, and I will return unto you, saith the Lord of hosts. But ye said, Wherein shall we return?
    ....
14 Ye have said, It is vain to serve God: and what profit is it that we have kept his ordinance, and that we have walked mournfully before the Lord of hosts?
15 And now we call the proud happy; yea, they that work wickedness are set up; yea, they that tempt God are even delivered.
16 Then they that feared the Lord spake often one to another: and the Lord hearkened, and heard it, and a book of remembrance was written before him for them that feared the Lord, and that thought upon his name.
17 And they shall be mine, saith the Lord of hosts, in that day when I make up my jewels; and I will spare them, as a man spareth his own son that serveth him.
18 Then shall ye return, and discern between the righteous and the wicked, between him that serveth God and him that serveth him not.

You makin' me laugh!!! In such a GOOD WAY!!!!!
I was friends with this man. We hung out in Vancouver, WA in the 80s and played jazz... drank coffee... watched Letterman on NBC... had him over for early morning breakfast and quiet tunes,,, taught lessons at the same music store... went to the local used record shops to buy jazz we hadn't heard yet (on the cheap)-we had little cash.
I recorded in my studio his very first tape of songs when he switched from fretless bass to slide guitar. The guy could play everything!
I had a therapy session today and spoke of my ups and downs with knowing Kelly... He was always so incredibly deep into music - we had many a midnight discussion about this or that record, or somebody's tone, or their approach to finding the magic.
Kelly had some beautiful pain in his head and his heart... I miss him...
..... I can still hear his voice. in my head...

For someone with Kelly's natural gifts and drive to succeed in a business full of ego and temptation, and instead to take the opposite, humble path towards being a better person as he saw it....I am not religious in that way, but it is extremely inspiring stuff...made even more so by the fact that in the modern music industry, being overtly religious is bad for business! Kelly wanted to be a good man, and he WAS - in so many ways!

Not at all like the original. Had no idea it was the song it says it is. Nice playing tho.

He never plays the same song exactly the same way, but you should have gotten a clue from the repetition of the title repeatedly? GOD don't NEVER change..
