  • Today we're going to explore Tantallon Castle in East Lothian, Scotland. It's a unique design, a curtain wall castle, perched high on a clifftop about 5km from North Berwick.
    We'll have a look at the Great Outer Gates, the moat, the views of the coast, the Firth of Forth and Bass Rock. And we'll climb up to the top and look at how curtain wall castles work and why they were so easy to defend.
    Tantallon Caste was built in the 1300s and partially destroyed by Olvier Cromwell in 1651.
    Join me for a fascinating video as we explore Tantallon Castle, Scotland's BEST forgotten medieval fortress.

    A hidden gem indeed, Roger. The good weather, plus the magnificent views, just add to the castle's location. The coffee/good book/fantastic views, say no more! Will definitely visit Tantallon, next time I'm in North Berwick. Good vlog, Roger!

    Very well done and informative vlog. I've seen videos where the UK weather refuses to cooperate but you lucked out that day. Not only blue skies but also not so windy that it interferes with the audio. Thumbs up from America! Stunning images of the castle.

      Thanks so much. Really appreciate your thoughts. We can be lucky with the weather in East Lothian and often get stunning sunny days even in winter. But the wind is a problem as you say, the enemy of good audio! Where in the US are you? 😀

    I was brought up In North Berwick and metal detected all around Tantallon castle before anyone knew what a metal detector was….many a summer evening was spent picking up old pennies etc until it got dark around 10pm. Never found anything good, the people there must have been skint way back then lol.

    How to reach there from Prince's street, Edinburgh through public transport, if at all available??

    • @RogEdwardsTV
      @RogEdwardsTV  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      There are regular trains from Edinburgh Waverley to North Berwick. The Number 120 bus from North Berwick to Dunbar stops outside Tantallon Castle. The bus isn’t that regular so you’ll have to plan around the times. 😀
