    My seed starting mix is similar: I started doing 2 part coco coir and 1 part of vermiculite with a dash of worm castings mixed in and I have great success.

    Hollis and Nancy, I love you guys so much! I’m so happy that your dreams have come true. I wish I could visit you in Florida, but I’m all the way at the other end of the nation. Fortunately, God has blessed us all with your wonderful videos. Thank you for sharing your knowledge, Hollis, thank you for your great recipes, Nancy, and thank you both for all your hard work! Love to Bing Bing. Sincerely, Ray 💚👍

    You are always practical and make me feel like I can grow anything! You have inspired my garden this year and I have produce coming out my EARS! Just for fun, I planted corn in the front yard! (We're sort of country, so no one cares) 😁 God bless and grow on!

    I have had a problem finding seed starter. Lowe’s does not carry & Home Depot is out. 8 qt 4.99. Went to Amazon $12 - 13.00!!! Same size bag.
    REALLY AMAZON??? So I came here to get your recipe. I don’t need a whole lot but I like to keep on hand at all times. Thanks!
    I had rather invest in making my own than throwing same amt of money out the window😁!

    You post thorough and thoughtful videos. Thank you! A suggestion - wear a mask when mixing ingredients. Some of that dust is dangerous to inhale - especially if you handle the stuff often. Protect your breathing. PS: I love the scriptures you include!

    Hey Hollis and Nancy. I love watching you two love birds as you demonstrate how to do so many things. What I like most is your dedication to the Lord in all that you do 🙂It is a waste of life otherwise. I had a quick question about your seed starting mix. In another one of your videos (Starting Seedlings), it appears there's Perlite in your seed starting mix. However, in your instructions, you only call for vermiculite. Am I seeing things? Keep up the great work!

    I like making my own seed starting mix it's way cheaper ! I wish I could start up outside but that's not possible so I have a grow setup indoors that I love but those dang fungus gnats are something else unless when I mix I pre wet with boiling water . I am so looking forward to your videos now that you are set up .

    I was told that you may avoid fungus gnats by using coco coil and additives (perlite, vermiculite), instead of using seed-starting-soil for inside trays. I'm trying coco coil and perlite this year.

    • @yakitoriPB
      @yakitoriPB 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I use coco coir and perlite 3 to 1 ratio and throw in two handfuls of rock phosphate and a 6 inch pot full of worm castings in a 5 gallon bucket.

    Have you ever used soil blocks? They seem to provide better and stronger plants from seedlings and the plant doesn’t have as much transplant shock when you upgrade them to a larger block or plant them into the ground.

    Hollis and Nancy, I love all your videos; it's my daily routine to enjoy them before I go to bed. QQ for you, I followed the instructions of one part vermiculite with three parts peat-moss; however, my seedling tray won't absorb water even with repeated watering, and it barely gets hydrated; Am I missing anything, or are there any tips to hydrate quickly without making a mess?

    • @HollisNancysHomestead

    We soak crushed wood charcoal with alfalfa pellets, then add it to the garden soil like a soupy oatmeal layer.
    Just let it dry then finger it into the top soil.
    Charcoal is a neat tool Once Charged with a nutrient....its called Terra Preta

      @@ITURNWINEINTOWATER I believe you are correct. I live in deer haven. I see deer every day and every night in SC. I've heard the best way to keep them out is to extend the fence horizontally, like a federal prison fence. They have a hard time jumping vertically AND horizontally at the same time.
