Hi coach, nice vid, just a question about gi. I usually like to gift wrap people but instead of feeding the hand, what I do is grab their collar as if I'm getting a bow and arrow grip. They usually bring the hand over to defend the grip, which makes it easy to get the gift wrap. Do you think the principles shown in this vid eg keep elbow tight and away from head would still apply if I was attacking a bow n arrow
Yes the principle is the same. The problem is the active control of the other hand. If a grip on the pants or other to control the body from rolling is applied, then this escape will be difficult. In Noguchi, there is less ability to grip so it works better but the answer is yes it will work the same if the other hand is controlling nothing. That is why we grip the pants or opposite lapel when choking.
This is a huge timing issue. If you can’t roll under fast, your opponent will catch you stomach down, then merely let go of the gift wrap and use that hand for the bulldog choke instead. Nonetheless, you gotta do this defense or else you’re a gonner for sure.
Good detailed explanation but, please, put a light on your camera. It's difficult to see some of the visual details with the back-lighting, black mat, black clothed opponent, and shadows.
Thank you very much, i stuck on this position for an halfe year. The living God bless you
This is pure gold. As a beginner with bad defense I almost always got into being side controlled and the guy on my back, this just opened my eyes!
It's a great escape from the Gift Warp! Timing is critical! You're the first I've seen to teach a counter to the Gift Wrap. Impressive!
Coach AL
Thanks Brother!!
Love the way you explain every little detail, thanks coach.
Thanks!
Pause @ 2:23 and it appears that Brian is just floating in some infinite quantum bJJ universe.
Watching this to counter a person trying to counter my gift wrap lol
really clever idea.
You forgot to ask us to comment in the end. But man, thanks for the tip!
Hello teacher, spend a day in Spain (Madrid) and give us some classes! OSS
Damn! A very valuable tip!
Thanks a lot.

Autocorrect..... Noguchi = Nogi! 😜

Thank you! I will see what I can do.
